Reeling from the news this morning - just so shocked. Sounds like he lost control of his car. Another person who was a passenger is dead too. Sad

Poor families of both - just horrible.

I loved Jackass. Am sad to hear of Ryan's death. It is such a waste as it's so preventable, if he was driving.

Drink driving is unacceptable, at all, and this proves why. It can only end in tragedy, who ever is caught up in it.

differentnameforthis · 21/06/2011 23:31

but it was'nt who he was generally

How do you know that? You are telling us that we are making assumptions about him, but so are you. You can't know that he wasn't generally an arse.

But it is undeniable that this was a pretty huge arse type action, whoever he was. Again, just glad that no one innocent was involved!

Morloth · 22/06/2011 03:49

Physics is a fine thing.

I have not the slightest tiniest little bit of sympathy for anyone who drives drunk and kills themselves. I am pleased that they have taken themselves off the road so that is one less dickhead who is likely to run me/my kids over.

Would I say that to his mother's face? Well no, because she wasn't the one who caused this. Would I say it to his face if he had killed someone I loved instead of himself? Yes. Would I wish him dead in those circumstances? Yes.

If you don't want to get killed whilst driving drunk, don't drive drunk, this is not a complicated equation.

Stupid people do stupid things with predictable consequences, you can only hope that they don't take someone else with them.

DingleDangleDiva · 22/06/2011 07:44

Different you are making assumptions about who/what I know.

I know he was'nt an arse, end of.

I do agree with the reasoning that what he did were the actions of a dickhead but IMO that does'nt mean he deserves to be remembered as an asshole, he should be remembered for who he was in life not how he was at death.

I guess everyone has their own opinion and I have mine I just think it's sad that this is all people will think of now when they they Ryan's name :(

differentnameforthis · 22/06/2011 08:15

he should be remembered for who he was in life

Who he was in life was someone who was happy to get into a car & drive it, after consuming too much alcohol. And put lives at risk. This wasn't the first time, nor the second I wouldn't think...

That is how he should be remembered, because it may just stop 1 person being an arsehole & doing the same.

Morloth · 22/06/2011 09:49

He won't be remembered by the vaaaaast majority of people at all. I had no idea who he was yesterday and now will think of him only as 'that idiot, who made those stupid shows, who killed himself being an idiot', that is assuming I think of him ever again once he slips off the front page.

If either of my DSs kill themselves in such a stupid way I will be in a rage at how stupid and selfish they were to think so little of the people who loved them.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 22/06/2011 10:02

"he should be remember for who he was in life"

That's never how it happens, though, is it? Remember Elvis? Adored by millions for his music but memorable for dying on the crapper...

Cattleprod · 22/06/2011 10:18

I was reading an interview with Steve-O the other day and thinking how surprising it is that he's still alive, with all the dangerous stupid stuff he's done and the heavy drinking and drug abuse. And then the next day the seemingly most sensible of the Jackass crew dies in such a violent way.

Bollockstoitall · 22/06/2011 10:30

Seems he got his come-uppance didn't he?
He was reckless and irresponsible.

I'm trying to muster sympathy for him, but I just can't.
Am I supposed to say, "Aw, poor thing, how tragic. Such a shame, such a waste" Hmm

He was DUI. meh

Before we were married my husband, when he was 18 was banned for 18 months for drink driving. Thankfully he didnt kill anyone or himself. He was made to go on a drink driving course, I think the course should be compulsary for all people who have passed their test tbh.

We don't drive even if we've had so much of a sniff of alcohol. They should change the drink drive limit to zero to stop any confusion on what's a safe amount.

He wasnt a legend. He was just a normal human being that made a very stupid mistake. Sympathies for his family.

PaperView · 22/06/2011 12:20

He became famous by being paid to be a dickhead (as all the other "stars" of Jackass). He died as he lived and took someone else with him.

My sympathy goes to the family of the man he killed tbh.

mayorquimby · 22/06/2011 12:41

Surely if you're going to judge someone as a dickhead for drink driving it equally goes for someone who is happy to get in a car with someone who has been drinking and driving.

Morloth · 22/06/2011 12:46

I'm fine with that mayorquimby pretty bloody stupid to get in a car with someone you know is drunk as well.

There is a clue in the word Jackass I think...

AnyFucker · 22/06/2011 14:10

I am fine with that too, MQ

in fact, there was a lady on here the other day who knowingly got into the car to be driven, with her young dd, by her drunk DH and I joined in with the absolute slating she (justifiably) got

it is being reported that the Porsche in question was driven in excess of 130mph by this Jackass fella Shock

differentnameforthis · 22/06/2011 14:32

Agree MQ, said it myself in an earlier post.

PaperView · 22/06/2011 19:43

MQ yes that would be filed under "Things that are stupid" too.

differentnameforthis · 23/06/2011 03:39

Like I say I totally agree at that point in time yes he may have been an ass but it was'nt who he was generally

Sorry, want to come back to this, that statement is incorrect... His actions that night were hugely reflective of who he was generally..

The police also said Dunn had a prior DUI conviction. He also had 23 driving citations before his death. Among them were citations for speeding and careless driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a license...

Jackass costar Bam Mangera's mother April, who loved Dunn as her own son, was shocked by the news and told NBC 10 that she always warned Dunn not to overspeed and drive dangerously. "He (always) drove too fast and I yelled at him all the time about that," April said

Here

More

Other sources have said that Bam himself admitted that it was only a matter of time before Ryan had an accident because of his carelessness on the road & stating that he was NOT a good driver.

He looked (to the owner of the bar) not drunk at all, yet he was over twice the legal limit.

pretentiouswasteoftime · 23/06/2011 06:39

Sad for both families - both Ryan Dunn and the passanger. Did not realise when I posted the OP that he had been drinking. Such a waste of two lives.

*Passenger" NOT passanger. Too early for me.
