Just heard that on Radio 4 news, from the inquest. Bastards.

Isn't on the website yet but this story does point out the copper is still lying even when confronted with the video footage.

That policeman killed Ian Tomlinson. If it hadn't been filmed he would have just denied it all. He is a cowardly bully and a thug.

KnittingRocks · 07/04/2011 19:46

What I find amazing is that the PC involved is still lying even when faced with the film that shows his account is completely untrue!

Stupid, arrogant or both?

unfitmother · 07/04/2011 19:49

Just seen the fottage on C4 Angry

K999 · 07/04/2011 19:49

Am I missing something? What did he lie about?

edam · 07/04/2011 19:59

K, the copper claimed, yet again, that Mr Tomlinson was 'refusing to comply' with police orders, that he was 'almost inviting a confrontation' when in fact there is video footage clearly showing the poor man was walking away in a perfectly calm and ordinary manner. He had his back turned and his hands in his pockets.

Maybe the murdering copper thinks if he says it often enough it will magically turn into the truth?

KnittingRocks · 07/04/2011 20:00

The catalogue of lies is endless - he said that Tomlinson was walking towards him when he wasn't, the he was being aggressive when he wasn't, that he presented a threat when he clearly didn't. The list is endless.

Nasty piece of work.

ilovesprouts · 07/04/2011 20:01

cop should be charged simples ,

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 07/04/2011 20:08

it is a disgrace, the whole thing

he was murdered pure and simple, and they have as usual tried their best to cover it up

if he'd shoved a copper and that'd caused the copper to die.... well, we know what would have happened then

the met knew exactly what they were doing, getting that bent tame pathologist freddy patel to do a bollocks post-mortem

even though he's been totally discredited and two other pm's have found that the policeman's actions led to his death, its still scuppered any chance of charges ever sticking

wankers

RitaMorgan · 07/04/2011 20:16

While Harwood is undoubtedly guilty, I can't help feel a bit sorry for him. He's being hung out to dry by the Met - they can cast him as "one bad apple" and deflect attention from their training/culture.

Lots of police officers behaved the same way Harwood did that day - he was unlucky he managed to kill someone.

edam · 07/04/2011 20:18

Queen - agree it is disgraceful that the Met were allowed to scupper the investigation by handing the post mortem over to a disgraced, incompetent pathologist. But I do wonder why the CPS refuses to let a jury decide who to believe. I'm sure a jury of 12 ordinary people can judge who is more likely to be right, two competent pathologists or the Met's favourite, who has been disciplined by the GMC for being crap?

OP posts:
edam · 07/04/2011 20:19

Rita - I don't feel one scrap of sorrow for Harwood, the victims here are poor Mr Tomlinson and his family. But you are right that the Met are evading wider scrutiny and Harwood isn't one bad apple.

OP posts:
QueenOfFlippingEverything · 07/04/2011 20:23

harwood is ime entirely representative of how police behave at demos and protests

and yes the cps also are in the wrong for not letting him stand trial

but the met knew damn well that a dodgy post mortem would have that result

shame on all involved

K999 · 07/04/2011 20:27

Its all so tragic. What was the a actual cause of death?

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 07/04/2011 20:30

internal bleeding consistent with a 'blunt force trauma' to the abdomen

winnybella · 07/04/2011 20:34

I thought he died of a heart attack?
You mean that hey found out that the blow killed him?
And the guy won't be charged???

K999 · 07/04/2011 20:36

I thought it was a heart attack too??

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 07/04/2011 20:39

Having to talk in general as this really pisses me off..... What about all the shit the police get ..... The hitting, kicking, spitting, verbal etc etc. The public don't get to see all that happens and NONE of you saw Tomlinsons behaviour, good or bad, from start to finish without any media editing ....

This is the same demo where a woman claimed she had been beaten by the police and the scum media showed the police man hitting the woman BUT only to push her back as another reporter filmed the woman spitting, shouting and punching him. She was later found out to be lying.

It is tragic than Tomlinson is not here but there are always two sides to very story and I think the police have a shit enough time as it is without trusting the media when it suits.

And no, I don't work for police!

RitaMorgan · 07/04/2011 20:47

Harwood wasn't charged in the end because of the conflicting post-mortem results and the the length of time it took the CPS to decide what they wanted to do, they concluded there wasn't a good enough chance of getting a conviction for either manslaughter or assualt.

Actually cookcleanerchauffer there is video footage of both Tomlinson and Harwood following them throughout the whole day, so we do know what happened.

K999 · 07/04/2011 20:49

Fair post CCC. Good points.

Indaba · 07/04/2011 21:02

Hi all,

Listened to interesting programme on Radio 4 re the first pathologist who did the Tomlinson post morteum. At the time he was engaged to do it, he had all ready been banned from one (or two?) local London police districts and was no longer on the recommened list to do general Met Police post morteums. He had been called in to the Tomlinson post mortum as a last resort.

I heard the programme about a year ago: it was on for about 40 minutes on a programme called The Report or something similar. The conclusion of the programme was he had already been found incompetent, but (for what ever reason) had been used this time and his findings were highly dubious as he hdn't done a thorough investigation, so I recall.

Anyway, this same pathologist was struck off, so I believe about 2 months ago following 3 similar cases of shoddy work.

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 07/04/2011 21:16

yes the dodgy post mortem by the now-discredited pathologist said he had died of a heart attack

two competent pathologists later found that the cause of death was internal bleeding consistent with beng struck with a blunt object

edam · 07/04/2011 21:17

CCC, how dare you attack poor Mr Tomlinson! Isn't it enough for you that an innocent man is dead? Is it enough for you that there is video footage showing exactly what went on between Harwood and Tomlinson? Is it enough for you that it was shot by a bystander - an independent third party, not the cops nor a demonstrator, who was horrified by what he had witnessed?

Two sides to a story my arse, there is very clear incontrovertible evidence that Mr Tomlinson was an entirely innocent victim. Your disgusting attempt to smear him is beneath contempt.

OP posts:
K999 · 07/04/2011 21:19

"struck" with blunt object? You mean from being shoved??

Actually Edam, there's always two sides to a story. Which is why so many cases go to court or there is always a second opinion sought. What happened to Mr Tomlinson is terribly tragic and one wishes that this never happens again.
