Frankie Boyle's Katie Price jokes censured

here. Couldn't find a thread on this yet. Was going to post earlier after seeing it on the Wright Stuff but got distracted with what a nasty creature Mathew Wright is.

Can't stand Frankie Boyle and think those 'jokes' were beyond contempt. I kind of understand where Channel 4 are coming from but really think they should apologise.

Good. He's a facile, offensive twat who doesn't even have the good manners to be funny.

He makes me feel a little nauseous, actually.

Chil1234 · 04/04/2011 22:58

Price makes me feel nauseous... Everything she does & says is calculated to get her a few more column inches in the press. Her carefully crafted one-woman soapy opera of birth, marriage, death and everything in between is up for sale to the right buyer. Offended, my eye. I think she saw the Boyle routine as an opportunity to feign horror and stay in the papers for a few more precious weeks.

Okonomiyaki · 05/04/2011 07:11

Ha, good point chil!

Gotabookaboutit · 05/04/2011 08:00

I don't 'like' her - but what you are saying Chili is like saying a prostitute has no right to complain about being raped.

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 05/04/2011 08:14

Whether or not you like Katie Price is beside the point though. It wasn't her that was targeted in the jokes, it was a child. A disabled child. And not liking the childs mother doesn't mean that' ok. There's plenty of mothers i don't like but that doesn't make it ok for me to ridicule their children! The vile Mathew Wright seems to think its ok because Harvey is probably not aware of what was said so not offended by it! Confused

i really want to punch that bloke right between the eyes.

Okonomiyaki · 05/04/2011 08:27

GABAI and afternoons, you are right of course.

Sadly I think he is the type of egotistical idiot to turn people's distaste for him into us not 'understanding' him or his genius Hmm

Chil1234 · 05/04/2011 08:51

@Gotabookaboutit. I am making no such comparison to rape, and resent the implication.

@AfternoonsandCoffeespoons. I'm aware that the remarks were about a child. However you can't ignore the fact that this particular child's mother is a one-woman publicity-seeking monster - not some ordinary person. It is clear from the article that the remarks stepped over some line but I am saying that the principle reason behind Price's complaint is not because she is offended, upset or striking some noble blow for disabled children, but because she knows it will get her more air-time and press space. Cynical, deliberate and opportunist.... true to form

Pagwatch · 05/04/2011 09:08

I understand what you are saying chil

Unfortunately though once you start examining the reasons for her complaint and her motives, you draw the attention away from the actions of the person responsible here. And you start talking about Katie Price when you should be talking about the victim. Then you open the door to a discussion about how valid a victim this boy is.

You can have perfectly sensible views but find yourself standing on the same side of the argument who think a disabled boy was somehow fair game and that he is just collateral damage.

It is interesting that Frankie Boyle has a target like Katie Price but decides that going after her disabled son is funnier. He is either a bit of a shit comedian or a cunt. Actually I think he is a shit comedian and a cunt. But that's just me

Well said!

NormanTebbit · 05/04/2011 10:09

I think Frankie is hitting the self destruct button.

I agree with Chil about Katieprice, the way she uses her children, her fake relationships, her obsession with surgery is shocking. Those kids must have a tough time.
But they don't need FB making sick jokes too. He's not funny, he's embarrassing.

AlfalfaMum · 05/04/2011 10:09

I was talking to DH about this recently, and he thinks it's a form of child sexual abuse to talk about a child in that way.

NormanTebbit · 05/04/2011 10:16

I think that's maybe going a bit far.

mayorquimby · 05/04/2011 11:06

"I was talking to DH about this recently, and he thinks it's a form of child sexual abuse to talk about a child in that way."

Well then he's an idiot tbf.

As far as the ofcam decision I think it's the right one. He made jokes about a specific child based on their disability. The child has made no choice or individual effort to put themselves in the public eye and as such their can be no justification for targetting them in this way.

AlfalfaMum · 05/04/2011 13:35

He's not an idiot actually Angry

I don't feel like discussing this with someone who can't comment without hurling insults at people, but what he meant was that speculating about a child in a sexual context like that is very questionable re attitude to children and sex. I hadn't thought of it from that pov, but I think there's something in what he said

mayorquimby · 05/04/2011 13:51

just have to agree to disagree so

Gotabookaboutit · 05/04/2011 14:01

@ Chil - I didn't say you were talking about rape but what you are doing is making a case for discrimination based on your value judgements. Bit like that judge who says the 13 yr old ''seduced'' the much older guy.

NormanTebbit · 05/04/2011 14:13

I think you are equating Chil's opinion with extremes to win the argument.

Pagwatch · 05/04/2011 14:20

Alfalfamum

With respect, I think to equate a disgusting joke about disability, even if that joke has a sexual context, with sexual abuse is unreasonable and probably unhelpful.

gregssausageroll · 05/04/2011 18:07

Chil, how do you know KP wasn't offended by the remarks made? Are you KP or do you know her?

Chil1234 · 05/04/2011 18:36

I know that it's a PR stunt. Boyle's rep as bad-boy comic goes up a few notches so he's happy. She's on the front pages playing the sympathetic indignant mother and she's happy. The newspapers sell by the million and they're happy. And so the soap opera moves on another turgid episode.....

reelingintheyears · 07/04/2011 11:24

I wonder what C4s reaction woul hve been if the DC in question had been Ivan Cameron.

They all show their families off when it's to their advantage.

Vile 'jokes' about a disabled boy are just that...vile.

noddyholder · 07/04/2011 11:28

Kp is a vile creation who deserves anything the press throws at her becasue she courts it at every opportunity and has used her son and his medical status to her advantage when it suited her. Why she is pretending to be bothered now is a mystery to me. She should have kept his life his own and then none of this would have happened. harvey doesn't deserve this but then he doesn't deserve her either.

gregssausageroll · 07/04/2011 12:23

Now I am not a fan of KP but some comments are truely vicious considering you only know what is in the press and not her in real life - I'd say that about any celeb from her to VB to Kate Middleton!

What I do know is that KP funds a huge amount for children with disabilities such as riding for the disabled. Sensory rooms for children and has brought much help and information out into the open for children with disabilities such as Harvey.

She does a lot her for a local charity involving disabled children and I live in Perthshire.
