Whether this is a good or a bad thing, I have no idea, I have read so many conflicting reports. I feel that it must be a good thing, protecting people against Gaddaffi's forces.

However I do fear it may evolve into a very bad thing, another impossible war. Fingers crossed it is short and swift.

The Arab League wanted this didn't they?

Haven't we (US/UK/others) been supplying lots of arms and aircraft to them over the years? - maybe its time they used them and dealt with their region's problem themselves.

"The Arab League wanted this didn't they?"

The Saudi's are too busy crushing an uprising in Bahrain, with our tacit approval, to be doing it elsewhere.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 18/03/2011 11:48

We've also been supplying Libya...

noddyholder · 18/03/2011 13:20

Gaddafi has announced an immediate ceasefire Hmm

GastonTheLadybird · 18/03/2011 13:24

I was a bit Hmm at that too. What are his terms? Remaining in power, I assume, which his people are not happy with. I don't really see how a ceasefire can work in reality but I hope to god it can!

GastonTheLadybird · 18/03/2011 13:31

Twitter newsfeed said that the army tanks are now parked to block any food and water reaching rebels Hmm

Chil1234 · 18/03/2011 14:56

The ceasefire is just a delaying tactic. The UN won't sanction a full-scale invasion if his army is holding back, but Gaddafi can keep nipping at the rebels with his hired thugs and making what's left of their lives unpleasant.

?Asset freeze

?20. Affirms its determination to ensure that assets frozen pursuant to paragraph 17 of resolution 1970 (2011) shall, at a later stage, as soon as possible be made available to and for the benefit of the people of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya;

?21. Decides that all States shall require their nationals, persons subject to their jurisdiction and firms incorporated in their territory or subject to their jurisdiction to exercise vigilance when doing business with entities incorporated in the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya or subject to its jurisdiction, and any individuals or entities acting on their behalf or at their direction, and entities owned or controlled by them, if the States have information that provides reasonable grounds to believe that such business could contribute to violence and use of force against civilians;

in bold is the typical bullshit UN wording that means that Ghaddafi's offshore bank accounts will be well stocked so as to keep him happy ever after with Berluscioni's bunga bunga girls for making a graceful exit
