Apparently Libby Purves is going to be on in a minute to give a referee's ringside account of this morning's scrap!

Blu, but isn't that the key, he has done well by some of his other children, involved with them and they have done well? As opposed to his son who he used to see 4 times a year and who is now in trouble.

and n of one, but if her were mine I would be asking some hard questions of myself, and not blaming everyone else for what might have been my fault.

Blu · 20/10/2005 18:58

Absolutely. He should recognise the difference and admit it.
And encourage his son's to see themselves as important to their children, instead of saying I doesn't matter.
But I don't think that makes it ok for JR to shriek personal abuse at him.

No agreed, but his ideas are a bag of wank when it comes to the imporance of Fathers to kids (esp boys IMHO)

I thought Joan's views on racist were trite and silly and I did cringe when I read the transcript - she sounded old and dated, mainly, to me. But I do think he was slyly intimating that she was racist, actually, and in a way that he hoped would just go unchallenged. I can see why she was so offended and upset by what he said though I also agree that to some extent she only had herself to blame for saying such silly stuff. I also think that she found him irritating full stop and that fuelled her rant. Of course white racism plays a part in black failure (but only a part) but I think a film by Darcus Howe about how he shouldn't have abandoned his family might have been slightly more honest than one in which everyone gets the blame but daddy. Having said that, I've not seen the film and it may be more self-aware than seems possible atm.
It's hard to take his side when he gets up my nose so much!

yes, I found him irritating. Blu I didn't mean he has a chip about being black or about racisim just a general "woe is me attitude"
