We have the Keith Allen and Ray Winstone of southern squirrels in our back garden then Freckle and our lawn is starting to look the Somme. Little....blighters.
I think our local holly hedge would have been groaning with berries had it not been torched by under-occupied and disaffected youths

whimsywhoo · 19/10/2005 09:28

I have been saying to DH that the Squirrels seem to be going mad by us in the last couple of weeks

bakabat · 19/10/2005 09:29

OMG you're right- we've got a mad squirrel in our garden - I've seen him/her several times a day every day for about the last 3 weeks. Weird.

codface · 19/10/2005 09:31

they say that every year.

suedonim · 19/10/2005 12:39

MrsD, I can't speak 100% for the north but I was in Kent in '63. I think it was pretty bad all over, helicopter food drops in Devon, Northumberland etc.

According to the BBC today, a bad winter isn't a foregone conclusion, this is just an amber alert to be ready, in case it's a bad 'un. I remember 1978/9 was quite bad and everyone moaning that it wasn't fair that all the snowploughs were Oop Norf and in Scotland. Errrr....yes...that's cos it snows in Scotland every winter and they're a darn sight better organised than Darn Sarf!

PS I thought the amount of berries was due to the type of summer just past, not the winter to come!

Bozza · 19/10/2005 12:45

Yes I remember that winter suedonim. I was 5 (nearly 6) and the school boiler broke and we were off for weeks. My Dad taught me long multiplication on an easel blackboard.

Lucyfercat · 19/10/2005 12:57

Is this the same forecaster that told us that we were going to have a desert like heatwave this summer? What happened to that then?

Oh well, think I'll pop down to Decathlon and see if they do some cheap ski type trousers for the dd's!!

Hulababy · 19/10/2005 20:42

Typical if it is. Just moved to one of highest points in Sheffield, above the snow line. Looks like I may as well book the winter off work!

jacobsmummy · 19/10/2005 21:29

I'm not paying any attention.... just get all excited and happy and then it doesn't bloody happen and I'm all dissapointed again (but will probably spend best part of winter looking out of window and saying to DH 'the sky looks full of it' - wishfully )

RottenRhubarbWitch · 19/10/2005 21:30

Don't care - I'm in France! Nerr nerr!

Frizbe · 19/10/2005 21:33

Marvelous, ss can use his sledge that Santa got him for Xmas last year! and if its really bad, I may get the homebirth I want and dh doesn't!! providing the midwife can make it with the drugs I'll be happy

Frizbe · 19/10/2005 21:33

Hula, we can have a sledging meet at Chatsworth!

Hulababy · 20/10/2005 19:24
