Another earthquake has hit Christchurch New Zealand causing extensive damage.

There is much more damage than the last big one in September and more people injured because it has happened during the working day.

It is really horrible to watch the news. They have upgraded the number of deaths, but also reporting that people being rescued have had to have limbs cut off to get them out.

Others have escaped without a scratch. Lots of people were extremely lucky, considering Christchurch has a lot of brick buildings.

My thoughts are with all the families and friends

The police have now announce that they were wrong about the 15 survivors they thought were in the CTV building and now say the building is not survivable and is too dangerous to send in rescuers. It's so awful Sad

you can check the trademe messageboards for news, there is a section specifically for the quake that has been up since Sept, and all the other forums have threads too. People on there are starting threads as soon as the news is released so it's up to date. Best of luck, it's truly awful.

One of the 3 missing mentioned earlier has sadly died.

He was from their Sydney office, doing an audit.

Still 2 unaccounted for.

My friend is so so so lucky, it was just by chance she decided to take a lunch break (doesnt usually or eats at her desk) and had actually gone out of town to pick up some horsey bits (she has horses).

A very emotional moment for her when she drove back to find her mum, who works a few blocks from her, and couldnt find her..... her mum had gone to find her! A very happy reunion was had.

My friend has described some of the carnage, and it is just so hard to comprehend. This is going to take a lot of getting over for her.

This is a woman's story of the earthquake
Really interesting. You can't really get a handle on what's happened until you hear something like this.

There was a vigil service at Westminster Cathedral last night for the people of Christchurch. The cathedral was packed, people standing in the side aisles, and hundreds more outside listening through the OB.

If you make a donation to the Red Cross appeal through BP garages or Wild Bean cafes, BP have pledged to match it pound for pound.

Kia Kaha, Christchurch.
