"While there was no questioning the discipline Madonna brought to her career, the word seemed to have little relevance to the irreverent high jinks which made the Material Girl a household name.
Now that she's a happily married mum-of-two however, Madge's iron discipline has found a new focus ? her kids.
The singer says that while film director Guy Ritchie is into doing "wild stuff outside" with nine-year-old Lourdes and son Rocco, five, she is the one who worries about their teeth and makes sure they get their homework done.
"I'm a disciplinarian. Guy's the spoiler," the Papa Don't Preach singer revealed in an interview with Harpers And Queen magazine.
She also gives a glimpse into the family's home life, in which TV and junk food are a no-no and magazines and newspapers are banned. "My kids don't watch TV. We have televisions but they're not hooked up to anything but movies," explains Madge. "TV is trash. I was raised without it."
And if Lourdes and Rocco want to enjoy their weekly movie treat, they need to behave themselves. "The kids watch movies every Sunday. If they're naughty, they get the movie taken away," says Madonna, who takes an equally firm approach to Lourdes' untidiness.
"My daughter has a problem picking things up in her room. So if you leave your clothes on the floor, they're gone when you come home," she explains. "Lola has to earn all her clothes back by being tidy, making her bed, hanging up her clothes."
