Madonna at home

Saw this snippet on Hello's website:

"While there was no questioning the discipline Madonna brought to her career, the word seemed to have little relevance to the irreverent high jinks which made the Material Girl a household name.

Now that she's a happily married mum-of-two however, Madge's iron discipline has found a new focus ? her kids.

The singer says that while film director Guy Ritchie is into doing "wild stuff outside" with nine-year-old Lourdes and son Rocco, five, she is the one who worries about their teeth and makes sure they get their homework done.

"I'm a disciplinarian. Guy's the spoiler," the Papa Don't Preach singer revealed in an interview with Harpers And Queen magazine.

She also gives a glimpse into the family's home life, in which TV and junk food are a no-no and magazines and newspapers are banned. "My kids don't watch TV. We have televisions but they're not hooked up to anything but movies," explains Madge. "TV is trash. I was raised without it."

And if Lourdes and Rocco want to enjoy their weekly movie treat, they need to behave themselves. "The kids watch movies every Sunday. If they're naughty, they get the movie taken away," says Madonna, who takes an equally firm approach to Lourdes' untidiness.

"My daughter has a problem picking things up in her room. So if you leave your clothes on the floor, they're gone when you come home," she explains. "Lola has to earn all her clothes back by being tidy, making her bed, hanging up her clothes."

Yes, her childhood always sounded absolutely miserable and desperate - loss of her mother etc. I fail to see how not watching TV has benefitted her. She doesn't seem particularly well-read, and she had, by her own admission, a pretty vapid, joyless and loveless twenties and thirties.
I suspect her children may be quite surprised after all this Mary Poppins/Supernanny routine to discover her book Sex. I think I would die of shock to find a book of pictures of my mother being tied naked upside down, or being given oral sex by Naomi Campbell....ooer, feel a bit sick now!

I'd forgotten about that dodgy kabbalah business too...

Mog · 16/10/2005 20:20

Linking with the Demi thread, do you reckon Madge has had surgery?

Octobernow · 16/10/2005 20:46

Yes, she's had her sense of humour removed and injections of collagen into her ego.

teeavee · 16/10/2005 20:49

lol october!

edam · 16/10/2005 20:55

Silly bint was also boasting about their healthy diets which include no dairy foods... durrrr. Unless they have properly diagnosed allergies, then she's not giving them a proper diet by leaving out an important source of calcium, protein and nutrients. Sounds like one of those people who is too stupid to realise that a healthy diet for an adult is not a healthy diet for a child - bet she has them on low fat food too.

Mog, I reakon she's taken advantage of her broken arm/shoulder/whatever confinement to have a few nips/tucks/fillers/lazers (thanks Aloha). She looked very freash and 'rested' at the premiere of that awful film last week.

Monkeytrousers - facelift inspector!

{parps and runs}

dillydally · 17/10/2005 13:36

Does she pluck lola's eyebrows or not though?

franke · 17/10/2005 13:39

Cod, you do make me laff

So does J Street-Porter - 'how on earth does this humourless, priggy cow think she sounds as she tells an interviewer "TV is trash ... we're a TV- and dairy-free house"?' Nail on the head.

codface · 17/10/2005 13:40

boollox she scoffs "Lil moos" and "mighty white "when no ones looking

muminlondon · 17/10/2005 21:59

When I read that she banned TV and newspapers from the house I thought she was just trying to censor all the negative publicity she and Guy get (although for someone as famous as her I can understand it to a point). Wonder if she bans the internet too.

monkeytrousers · 18/10/2005 17:57

She sounds like the dad from The Sound of Music

aloha · 18/10/2005 18:35

I know who does Madonnas fillers/botox/lasers!

monkeytrousers · 18/10/2005 18:54

Does she get it done in Boots?

aloha · 18/10/2005 21:31

Harley St, darlink! With a dishy (but IMO creepy) French surgeon.

Mog · 19/10/2005 16:57

Come on then Aloha, what's she had done?

Mog · 19/10/2005 16:59

By the way I could happily punch celebs who are completely line free past 40. They's raising the goalpost far too high.

bundle · 19/10/2005 16:59

ooh aloha met really nice surgeon this week (SW from the Royal Free, do you know him?)

motherinferior · 19/10/2005 17:14

I could be a fabulous mother with hot and cold nannies a gogo.......

doormat · 19/10/2005 17:34

Eaney · 19/10/2005 17:53
