Sexual exploitation of teenagers by (mainly) Asian gangs

hundreds of young girls are being groomed and prostituted by gangs according to an investigation by The Times]] Only the gangs are predominantly Asian men so the authorities have been very reluctant to either talk about it or act - even now the Home Office 'has no plans' to do any research into the pattern of offending, despite a request by the safeguarding children's board in Derby, backed by Barnardos. Former MP Ann Cryer has been campaigning on this for years but was shouted down with cries of 'racism'.

Afraid Times is now behind a paywall so can't link to the full story but if you have access, it's here down the page under 'UK news'.

Strikes me that the racists here are the officials who are afraid to uphold the law or to talk about this. And that it's yet another example where racism trumps misogyny.

There have been some prosecutions - 56 men convicted in 17 cases. But sounds as if the Home Office doesn't want anyone to find out if the problem is far more widespread.

SixtyfootDoll...that is sadly my understanding too.

LittleMissHissyFit · 08/01/2011 22:53

Well, those 2 men are in jail tonight, and as young men perhaps are now on the receiving end of being pimped out..

Let's hope everyone in jail gets their turn too..

reelingintheyears · 08/01/2011 22:57

Oh i do hope not.
That's not the way to change the world.

[[Emma, who is now 21 and virtually living in hiding in the North of England, recalls: ?It was like joining a cult.

?They threatened to firebomb my home with my parents inside if I told anyone what they?d done, shoot me with a pistol, rape my mother and kill my older brother if I told anyone.

?In my child?s mind, I wanted to believe Tarik had feelings for me. But he was just a pimp, and soon he was making money out of me by selling me to other men ? I don?t know how much for.?

?He would give me presents, vodka and cigarettes. But soon I was paying him back by having to do what I had to do with man after man, in empty flats, in parks and down alleyways.?

'In my child's mind I believed he had feelings for me.'

If Emma?s story were a one-off it would be distressing enough, but the reality is that it is not.

Many schoolgirls - some aged just eight - all over the north of England are falling prey to gangs who groom them to be lucrative sex slaves.

C&P from an article indicating that the men took money for the "use" of the girl

reelingintheyears · 08/01/2011 23:47

Where does this come from Alouiseg.?

Alouiseg · 08/01/2011 23:59

here

reelingintheyears · 09/01/2011 00:21

Have just read it,
What can anyone say.

I have a Daughter who is now 22 and i'm so glad she is probably too old for these freaks.
The point is of course that there are so many young girls still out there.
Our/my Grand daughters.
Who aren't born yet...
but still/will need to be protected.

Riven, is there ever going to be a time when you admit that there is massive work in the Muslim community to prevent this sort of misogyny? You seem to completely avoid the fundamental teaching within Islam that are the root cause of many of these views. Covered women = righteous, modest, respectful Uncovered woman = what?

And Religion is the basis for some, if not all, Asian cultures.

If these were white Atheists I would be in the discussion AT LEAST being honest and searching for causes....you ONLY ever spread or avoid blame.

mumzy · 09/01/2011 10:05

I think hyprocisy's post is depressingly familiar and in my experience through school, work and having muslim friends, women(muslim or otherwise) are seen and treated as second class citizens by the majority of muslim men. I come into contact with lots of school nurses and HV through work and they say the amount of domestic violence perpetrated by men they come across in the muslim communities outstrips that of the white population and all other ethnic groups in % terms. How do they know ? well everytime the police are called to deal with an incident of domestic violence, and there are child(ren) in the home they have to contact either school nurses or HV who then go to the home to follow child protection procedures. However all the agencies involved feel frustrated as they hardly ever manage to effect change as the men are protected by the extended family and communities who usually manage to "persuade" the women to drop their "complaints"

So Catholicism has nothing to do with paedophilia, no blame at all?

The Quran is not the religion, it's a book, a guide, People make a religion.

You must have to put your fingers very sharply in your ears to ignore the way women are viewed and that it has nothing to do with covered and protected women.

Margaret or Posie..very predictable response.

Islam has very little to do with this issue.

As a Pakistani female I would like to tell my story. Very different from Hypocrisy.

These gangs DO exist, mostly in the north. Culture is a massive factor. These people come from uneducated, backward looking families. All the youngsters are expected to leave school, work and get married from Pakistan. They have nothing in common with their wives, it's just to keep mummmy and daddy happy.

I have a big extended family. NOT ONE person in my family is as described above. They are average law abiding citizens. Most of us have married to local people ( again good, kind families).

It is very dangerous to describe a whole community as being perverted. I feel sorry for the vast majority of good Pakistani men (my husband and brothers included) who face ignorant suspicion.

There are chavvy, perverted and nasty men and women in every community.

Riven you are so naive sometimes. Asian culture - what is that exactly? Is it like European culture? Am I expected to have the same mindset and values as a Greek or an Italian? Why? And what would they be, exactly? As far as I can tell, if we have anything at all in common in our cultures it's the fact that they have all evolved from the foundations of Christianity and nothing more. There are both good and bad results of that. Why are you so unable to say the same about Islam?

This is happening in Holland and the perpetrators are Turks and Moroccans. How does that fit with a problem in Asian culture?

You can argue until you are blue in the face that these people are not good Muslims - but the problem is, so long as they are keeping their sisters and mothers and wives covered and marrying their cousins, and only shagging cheap white immoral whore children they think they are.

MissQue · 09/01/2011 10:30

Mistyop, that's the point I was trying to get across earlier. It's horribly unfair on those people who are simply ordinary folks trying to get on with life in a country like Britain, where they can be the target of racism just walking down the road, regardless of how decent they are. As always, the bad ones get the headlines, and the rest get tarred with the same brush.

It's not just Asian gangs who are doing this sort of thing, there is a massive problem with Eastern European women being smuggled into the country with promises of a better life, only to end up living in squalor and fear and being horribly abused. I just think it's unfair on the UK's Asian population to blame them all for the crimes of a few.

MargaretGraceBondfield · 09/01/2011 10:34

misty...call me what you like, I really don't care. Noone is describing the community as a whole perverted group, how insulting. The actions of these Asian/Muslim gangs is insinuating that women are to be covered or are slags. This is inherent in many communities but we are specifically talking about Muslims. We are talking about a British group that has, in recent years, been seen to cover their women and even prepubescent girls, forced marriage, honour killings, FGM, etc. This is a Muslim issue.

MargaretGraceBondfield · 09/01/2011 10:35

All shit for women, ALL.

MargaretGraceBondfield · 09/01/2011 10:36

Stop deflecting and start dealing and discussing these issues.

Ever read MDL stuff on FB? It's like the reverse BNP.

FellatioNelson · 09/01/2011 10:36

Mistyop In spite of my earlier post, I totally totally agree with you. There are certain values and behaviours that are prevalent in a very specific section of British Muslims - unfortunately it is a pretty large section.

edam · 09/01/2011 10:40

I don't think anyone is blaming all Asians or all Pakistanis for the crimes of a few, are they? No more than anyone blames all men for the crimes of those who kill their wives?

But they are saying there is a specific type of crime where the perpetrators are Asian men - a tiny minority of the total population - and pretending that it doesn't happen or that the ethnicity of the perpetrators and the victims (who are Black girls as well as white, and some Asian girls apparently) doesn't matter is extremely dangerous.
