Don't think it takes much to trigger it in some people, especially perfectionist types or those with low self-esteem. A crass comment can be enough

scottishmummy · 31/12/2010 00:50

its a mental illness, the specific triggers are intrinsic to that individual.on increase with males too

singingcat · 31/12/2010 00:52

Princess Diana said that her trigger to become bulimic was that Prince Charles put his hand on her waist and said 'getting a bit chubby here'. Of course, she was also feeling very out of control about the engagement. Luckily she recovered.

She should have eaten plenty of meat.

donkey i think the reason why it was banned was because it wasn't simply a campaign to raise awareness or discourage anorexia - it was advertising a fashion brand and therefore felt to be exploitative. I have to say that looking at the full ad i am dubious about it too

Fair enough Willie. I didn't realise that

WillieWaggledagger · 31/12/2010 13:49

no reason why you would tbh - the reporting is not clear about it

Poor woman.
My youngest sister was hospitalised for most of her teens, as a result of anorexia/body dysmorphia, it is a truly horrible illness
