Very sad. I hadn't heard of her. She was obviously aware that she was too thin. It's such an awful illness and frustrating for families and friends.

Poncey It's complicated, lots of reasons for it. There's some good information here

Don't think it's an image thing usually with true anorexia.

Macrophage · 30/12/2010 16:53

I googled her. She looked hideous, why would anyone want to look like that ?

I hope the poor girl has got some peace from her torment now.

What an utter waste of life :(

ISNT · 30/12/2010 17:12

Does anyone know why the advert she was in was banned in some countries?

TheManWhoSoldtheWorld · 30/12/2010 17:39

My gosh, how unwell she must have been. I too hope she is peaceful now.

This is shocking

TheManWhoSoldtheWorld · 30/12/2010 17:41

I would have thought the images would be too uncomfortable for people to look at ISNT?

I would guess there were a fair few complaints about some of the photographs.

It's a mental illness.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 30/12/2010 17:46

so so sad

i saw her on a c4 programme last year. cant remember what it was called and she looked in so much pain jsut walking and sitting. poor girl.

winnybella · 30/12/2010 17:50

TMWSTW- the first, 'before' photo in your link is NOT Isabelle Caro.

melpomene · 30/12/2010 18:18

I wonder how effective that ad would have been in combatting anorexia, though. Sadly I suspect that many people with anorexia would have seen the way she looked in that ad as something to aspire to.

KalokiMallow · 30/12/2010 18:27

I think it was less about combatting anorexia and more about confronting the fashion industries quest for thinner models

Poor, poor girl. What a terrible illness and awful death.

KalokiMallow · 30/12/2010 18:36

She had body dysmorphia :(

OP posts:
TheManWhoSoldtheWorld · 30/12/2010 19:24

Are neither of them of her? I didn't actually read the article. They came up on google images.

I wouldn't understand how they could be before and after anyhow Confused

scottishmummy · 30/12/2010 22:24

how dreadfully sad.family and friends must be heartbroken

KalokiMallow · 30/12/2010 22:33

What I find saddest of all is that she knew it was killing her, she talked about it lots, tried to help others. And still she couldn't escape it :(

Her family must have felt wretched watching her get worse :(

scottishmummy · 30/12/2010 22:37

anorxia is a complex mental illness.insight is lacking and judgement impaired.it alters perceptions, emotions and behaviours

KalokiMallow · 30/12/2010 22:40

Yeah, especially with body dysmorphia.

Anorexia is the most terrible illness and it claimed my cousin, and my niece has also been ill with it. It has the highest mortality rates of all mental illnesses and it gets a grip on many sufferers that is almost impossible to understand if you don't suffer from it. I wish they had shown the pictures in the countries that banned it - might have improved the fashion industry's utter obsession with underweight models

KalokiMallow · 31/12/2010 00:31

I'm so sorry to hear that donkey

scottishmummy · 31/12/2010 00:39

dreadful about your cousin, anorexia is mental illness that is commonly misunderstood, its impacts are so cruel
