White vinegar, expat? How much diluted? Handy tip that as the stuff I've used is not much good when it really plunges below zero.

I'm still expected to get to work in the evenings as they have been very huffy about time off and want all toil paid back by Christmas! Thankfully most of the neighbours were out clearing their drives and the road in front of their houses so I wasn't the only one and my two (nearly 9)'helped' with their sand spades!

What they really need is for a system where if the police state that you should not drive or go out then businesses cannot expect employees to travel in dangerous conditions.

Also to ensure that people cannot leave their cars on roads when they need to be cleared as there are still cars sitting outside people's houses here with the snow piled up causing obstructions.

It's best to just use commercial stuff in this weather, Two, but if your resevoir already has water in it just chuck in a standard sized bottle of white vinegar.

It's supposed to come back in, snow for many places.

blinks 'this is becoming a snow martyr fest'

Yes how dare someone moan about heavy snow and two pre schoolers Hmm

I mean I dug our our driveway with a shovel in each hand, for 12 hours with a 4 year old and an 18 month old strapped to my back. I also had a broken leg and nothing to feed the children, so after said shovelling I limped to the nearest shop with the children still strapped to my back.

Oh and yes just jolly your pre schoolers along and get them to help and play in the snow

In minus 12 degress my ds (4) did not want to be out longer than an hour despite thermals, salapettes, wooly socks, two hats etc. But then he is a moaner and not at all a martyr, shame on him.

Whoever thinks it takes less than an hour to clear a driveway with two feet of snow (yes there was that much here - Dunblane) must have herculean muscles and be very fit. My hat off to you.

As it is my dh did clear our path and driveway but it took longer than we thought and he is a strapping fit six footer.

Put your baby in a sling and shovel two feet of snow, why what a failure to not complete such a simple task. Fuck off

roseability - this is such a martyr fest I thought you were serious at first!

This is our second and a bit winter on top of a Highland hill and we are starting to get used to it. We knew what to expect, but of course you never really know until you're in the midst of it. I pity people in areas that don't usually get this kind of weather. We all need to be prepared for winters like this in future - that includes LAs and the Govt.
