They were together for a grand total of 8 months !

I read on the BBCi website that she's cited "fraud" as the reason, but no further details were available.

And filing for a annulment after 5 months of marriage is taking the P a tad. Apparently she's citing "Fraud" as the reason, in that he didn't make it clear that he was looking for a traditional wife who would stay home and bake cookies. Crikey.

I honestly don't really see why any hollywood people get married. I swear they do it to "tick the box". Their choice of "career" and relationships just never seems to work. Even the likes of Harrison Ford couldn't go the distance (although to be fair he gave it a go) without eventually succombing to the charms of a young actress...

George Clooney has it right. Just have fun and date lots of beautiful women! Why not.

The likes of Jodie Foster and Angelina Jolie et al all have children one way or another without the need for a permanent father figure. They all have enough help, and their own financial support.

Mel Gibson is the only one who springs to mind who has stayed the distance with his partner, and had masses of kids.

Catbert, I'm not sure that all the finacial and other support can be a true replacement for a good father.

I have to say when I see Angelina JOlie and her adpoted children I am reminded of the book (and film) "Mommie Dearest"....

If you've read it you'll know what I mean if not its an adopted hollywood child's recount of their true fairy tale life at the hands of her "mommie" Joan Crawford. Chilling to say the last and for the most part true.

I got married to my Dh very quickly (we decided tohave our DD after being together 6 weeks) and I have to say it could have gone either way. I would never have known if I hadn't given it a try.

When I married him I made my vows for life, but knowing he was doing the same was a gamble, as it is when anyone gets married. Its easy to be decieved. It must also be hell in a bucket to be famous and have to live with that level of media intrusion. Its bad enough having a row and the neighbours hearing and gossiping, imagine if its the while world.

I imagine she is kicking herself. Just hope she's a better judge of character next time around!

How pathetic. She doesn't even have the excuse of immature youth on her side. Hooray for Mel Gibson I say (despite some dodgy religious views). He must have had 100s of women proposition him but he has stayed with his wife.

For what it's worth, there have been many rumours around for a long time that Renee's hubby (country singer Kenny Chesney) likes men better than women. It's a sad fact that it's a pretty impossible leap for the mainstream country music audience in America to accept homosexuality....especially as many of the songs are about being in love.

Perhaps he somehow misrepresented himself and his preferences to Renee, and that's where the "fraud" part of it come into play.

Poor lass. sad to admit I have been there in a past relationship - its not an easy thing to deal with as it leaves you feeling pretty rubbish!

There was a picture of her in a recent Grazia (my sister bought it!) and she looked sooo unwell, a huge head on a skeletal body.

That usually = very unhappy, trying to hard to be what she thinks beautiful is....

I'm rather have my curves and bumps any day. Luckily DH would too ;)

Tom Hanks and Paul Newman are two more who seem to have staying power in the marriage and children stakes.

So far all those with marriage staying power suggested have been male celebrities. Any high profile women with long succesful marriages come to mind?

Zsa Zsa Gabor? Elizabeth Taylor? They had staying power in the marriage stakes, just not with the same husband!

I do think it's more difficult for a female star to have a successful long-term relationship unless her other half is equally successful. Partly because of the male ego insisting that the male should be dominant/more successful, and partly because of children, etc. The male star can carry on working regardless of the arrival of children, whereas a female star is bound to be out-of-action for at least a short period of time.

Joanne Woodward? Andie McDowall?

my thoughts exactly. The only lasting ones have a wife who is happy to stay in background.

I suppose SJP and Matthew Broderick have been together quite a while and at the moment her star is brighter than his.

Andie McDowall has only been married to her plastic surgeon husband for around 2 years, if that. I don't know what number H is is for her.

Also it's hard to think of a prominent female start with a long lasting marriage because by definition, as soon as females in hollywood hit about 40, they're thrown out and are therefore no longer prominent.

The only one I can think of is Sofia Loren.

And Whitney's been with BB for years (through ups and downs)

(And if they're under 40 their marriage is by definition not really long lasting. Anything less than 20 years is normal as opposed to long lasting, isn't it? Or is it like dog years for Hollyood stars? Say, one year of marriage is equivalent to five years for mere mortals?)
