...after just 4 months. Honestly, does anyone in Hollywood think it through before hopping up the aisle ?!

They were together for a grand total of 8 months !

I'm really shocked though because I saw her on gmtv last week being interviewed and she was all loved up and girly about it. it must have been going wrong for ages, why do they pretend so much? but i read a few months ago that he is a bit of a tie them to the sink as well which took her by surprise. Renee - you MUST live with them first to discover these things. She'll always be Mrs Jerry Maguire to me!

Just so you know....Renee's husband (soon to be ex), is very successful singer/performer. In the world outside the US, he may be "who?", but in America he sells millions of albums, and is one of the most successful touring artists in America. So, he's much more than just Mr. Zellweger.

Oh, Joooooools. It's important.

I'm surprised they lasted that long, tbh. Those wedding photos had REBOUND written all over them.

Mel Gibson is from the barefoot and pregnant, tied to kitchen sink school of husbandry.

What about Jeremy Irons married to one of the Cusack sisters and Liam Neeson married to whatever her name is. Are they all still together IYSWIM? If they are, they are actresses who have made a successful marriage.

Caligula, don't think they are actually married, far too Californian for that. But they have been together for years and have children too. (SS is one of my heroes)

I think anything over 10 years is pretty good going, these days, Hollywood or anywhere.

Kristin Scott Thomas seems to have a good marriage - to a French obstetrician since 1987. They live in Paris so away from the Hollywood glare. I suppose she probably isn't considered a huge celebrity though so that probably helps.

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell?
Susan Sarondon and Tim Robbins?

(And if they're under 40 their marriage is by definition not really long lasting. Anything less than 20 years is normal as opposed to long lasting, isn't it? Or is it like dog years for Hollyood stars? Say, one year of marriage is equivalent to five years for mere mortals?)

And Whitney's been with BB for years (through ups and downs)

Also it's hard to think of a prominent female start with a long lasting marriage because by definition, as soon as females in hollywood hit about 40, they're thrown out and are therefore no longer prominent.

The only one I can think of is Sofia Loren.

Andie McDowall has only been married to her plastic surgeon husband for around 2 years, if that. I don't know what number H is is for her.

I suppose SJP and Matthew Broderick have been together quite a while and at the moment her star is brighter than his.

my thoughts exactly. The only lasting ones have a wife who is happy to stay in background.

Zsa Zsa Gabor? Elizabeth Taylor? They had staying power in the marriage stakes, just not with the same husband!

I do think it's more difficult for a female star to have a successful long-term relationship unless her other half is equally successful. Partly because of the male ego insisting that the male should be dominant/more successful, and partly because of children, etc. The male star can carry on working regardless of the arrival of children, whereas a female star is bound to be out-of-action for at least a short period of time.

Joanne Woodward? Andie McDowall?

So far all those with marriage staying power suggested have been male celebrities. Any high profile women with long succesful marriages come to mind?
