The hyphen one is a SNEAK, says she who scored 19. Whether you hyphenate compound words or not is NOT prescribed by grammatical rules.

Here is what Fowler said in 1926: "the hyphen is not an ornament but an aid to being understood, and should be employed only when it is needed for that purpose." Right, how many of us were in danger of not understanding "Janet found her long lost brother"? Huh.

I am going to get a life, really.
