here

Surely thats not safe?! What about a matress??

Is he trying to make a pint that if HIS daughter can sleep in a box then surely all the paupers don't need 'grants' to buy cots?!

Hmm

ugh just ugh and a load of codswallop

LadyBiscuit · 25/09/2010 19:04

That's what I mean - why do you need to tell the world that your child sleeps in a cardboard box? Is he trying to pretend he's a man of the people or that he knows how hard it is for the rest of us during the recession?

sharbie · 25/09/2010 20:24

these politicians don't have a clue do they

Oh ffs. It doesn't mean anything - just that their child made the baby a box and the baby sleeps in it!

In the same interview he talked about the recent death of his father - would you like to imbue that with self-serving intent as well?

MaMoTTaT · 25/09/2010 20:32

I bet they put the baby in the box to keep big sister happy, and then baby refused to sleep anywhere else afterward Grin

hystericalmum · 25/09/2010 20:35

now imagine if an unemployed council house dweller had said the same. Hmm

LadyBiscuit · 25/09/2010 20:35

Why even mention it NL? I don't think anyone ever asked me where the baby slept.

Honestly - if you think this isn't a considered piece of PR guff you are hopelessly naive.

ClovisHandrail · 25/09/2010 20:36

Could be this

LadyBiscuit · 25/09/2010 20:40

Sorry, hopelessly was a bit unkind but I would say the same of any politician who let this 'slip' to a hack. His wife is a PR person, let's remember

AnyFuleKno · 25/09/2010 20:41

You can buy a cardboard rocking crib, it's very nice too...

4andnotout · 25/09/2010 20:44

My nan slept in an orange box as a baby, she never made the papers Hmm

I'd lay money on it being less of a cardboard box and more of an Eco crib or something.

Northernlurker · 25/09/2010 20:48

Ladybiscuit - I'm not bothered about'unkind' water off a ducks back and all that. I just don't feel the need to be cynical about this Do you really think they need any more cute baby PR? The blessed baby arrived on holiday, then there was the name and the pictures and more pictures - and every event hereafter as she grows up as the Downing Street baby. I just think it's their 'baby' story - we all have one. When people ask about her out it comes.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 25/09/2010 20:50

It pleases their daughter, a baby doesn't care where it sleeps, good on them! Why do some posters insist on making it a political point??

sharbie · 25/09/2010 20:51

because that's what they are doing

Northernlurker · 25/09/2010 20:56

How? He didn't say 'my child sleeps in a box so should yours'.

Northernlurker · 25/09/2010 20:57

Or 'I've contributed the cost of our cot to the deficit'

Or 'Nick Clegg agrees with me about the box'

dilemma456 · 25/09/2010 20:58

Who cares where the baby sleeps as long as its safe, warm and comfortable? I bet his big sister is really proud that the baby likes the box. Presumably they've padded it?

My kittens often sleep in a cardboard box decorated by Dd and no one has suggested its a bad idea Grin They're getting a bit big to share it now sadly.

LadyBiscuit · 25/09/2010 20:58

I am very cynical about what politicians choose to tell people about their families, yes. Because I think (unless they're idiots and the cam machine clearly isn't), everything they say is calculated.
