This rather silly woman thought Raoul Moat was a 'legend, I never knew him but I loved him' and travelled 300 miles, teenage sons in tow, on a coach trip to the funeral

yes I think that (i.e. the general point) might well be worth thinking about, but using this particular example to make it was exploitative and fallacious, albeit quite cleverly so.
