What job defeats you?

I quite like cleaning. Probably because I don't do it often enough. I love the nice smells and gleaming surfaces. But I just can't put laundry away. no idea why. There's usually between three and five mountainous baskets of the stuff to put away in our house and I always skulk off and find an excuse. There's worse jobs, like the rubbish, scrubbing out roasting tins, cleaning the loo, which I do without thinking.

Does anyone else have a job they run a mile from?

Hate it all.

Skimty · 17/06/2010 19:23

I usually think about it in terms of that day. Though, I suppose, yes, in a lifetime bu that's quite depressing...I'm sure of I were a poet I could write something very melancholic on that theme

lefroglet · 17/06/2010 19:37

Well in this house we are supposed to have specific jobs (DH, DBIL and myself) - but inevitably that has fallen through and now I do all the crap jobs (bathroom - hate all of it, kitchen - bloody oven AND fridge and kitchen floor, washing, hanging out of washing, packing washing away, ironing).

DH is supposed to do the living room and bedrooms (hoovering, dusting). DBIL is supposed to hoover the hall and stairs and mop the kitchen floor. It seems we all hate our jobs - however I do mine in a timely fashion, whereas the other too would suffocate on dust balls before they did anything!

On the plus side I LOVE cleaning my kitchen sink - all shiney and lovely!

cariboo · 17/06/2010 19:42

Cleaning where there might be sp-sp-sp-spiders!

Schulte · 17/06/2010 19:57

Ironing. Even the thought of setting up the ironing board is too much for me. Luckily my ironing isn't up to DH's standards anyway so I never have to do it!

Taking the bins out - also DH's job.

Otterlybotterly · 17/06/2010 20:09

Oh Jesus yes cleaning the bath. I bathe by candlelight so that I can't see the tidemarks. I can tolerate ironing but hoovering makes me CRY with frustration and rage. We've got a Henry and the bloody thing falls over all the time. Hate it.

perhapstomorrow · 17/06/2010 20:21

I'm with you Racingheart. My living room currently has 4 loads of washing to put away....I'll have a glass of wine first and then tackle the mountain!

mrsfrisby · 17/06/2010 20:30

Am with you Buckbuck - I also hate putting cutlery away. Have decided to be throw out the divider and just chuck it all in together. Does that make me a lazy slattern?

auburnlizzy78 · 17/06/2010 20:31

I hate ironing. I think I'm doing it wrong. I can't get on with steam irons, the hissing noise freaks me out and I hate that they spit water on your clothes. So my mum found me a normal iron, which just sort of presses the creases down so it looks fine on the ironing board but when you hang it up it looks crap again. It's just so soul-destroying!!

My mum ironed everything, inc bras, socks (they ended up in a big perfectly aligned sock BLOCK in my drawer) and of course bed linen. She got me once when I came home from uni to iron my bedlinen. I folded it up into the smallest square possible and just did both sides quickly. My mum was SHOCKED. "How do you think you're ever going to get a husband?" she said, in all seriousness. It was 1999 or something....

marriednotdead · 17/06/2010 20:59

Can cope with washing/ironing and even the bastard socks but it's the heavy duty stuff like cleaning the cooker or washing paintwork/windows that really makes me want to run away.
And the bloody garden. After far too many years of fighting wilderness, am finally going to cover it in gravel
I cleaned the fridge out today for the first time in ahem so feel a teeny bit virtuous.

debka · 17/06/2010 21:01

I cannot bear cleaning the bit that goes in the sink and catches all the oog. Makes me sick. Now I'm 6 wks pg DH has to do it or I will really heave. Yuk yuk yuk yuk yuk.

MavisEnderby · 17/06/2010 21:04

cleaning the oven.Don't ask me why but the thought of it causes me to lose the will to live

FourArms · 17/06/2010 21:20

I don't really clean my oven very often. Does it really need that much cleaning? I have a massive roasting dish type thing that takes up most of the bottom of the oven which gets washed quite often. I also wash the racks (all done in the dishwasher). I don't use the oven much, probably do roast potatoes/roast meats about six times a year. I put the racks in oven pride twice or three times a year, along with the racks from the grill.

Anyway.. rubbish jobs! Sorting stuff out and putting it away! I have piles everywhere in the house. Also opening envelopes - I haven't opened anything from the bank in years (do look online occasionally).

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 17/06/2010 21:24

Ironing here too - though oddly enough, I used to (relatively) like it! Can't not iron though, as I hate the way my t-shirts etc look if I don't. (I don't iron the kids' stuff though, or anything else I think I can get away without doing).

Also emptying the compost bin onto the heap, yuck! And washing DS's plastic bibs in the sink.

wasabipeanut · 17/06/2010 21:26

Cleaning oven and fridge. I actually quite like ironing. There is something really rather pleasing about a nice pile of beautifully ironed bedding.

I know, I know.

glitterkitty · 17/06/2010 21:51

DH has to clean oven, microwave, fridge, empty the hoover and do the bins.

That's his jobs because I WILL NOT do it. I do pretty much everything else tho. Neither of us iron- pointless and boring.

Oh, how I'd LOVELOVELOVE to kick the dyson down the stairs! . I hate it with a passion! Does anyone have a hoover they like?

MarthaQuest · 17/06/2010 21:52

The worst job in the world is cleaning out the fridge and deforsting the freezer.

anonymousbird · 17/06/2010 21:54

Changing the sheets, it's a killer. Three sets, every week, I utterly dread it.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 17/06/2010 22:18

why do you all hate your dysons?? I quite like mine!
Worst job? Cleaning up the toys. So utterly pointless.

angelictenacity · 17/06/2010 22:20

I hate cleaning toilets, windows and the cooker.
I don't dust.

BlueEyeshadow · 17/06/2010 22:26

All of it! At the moment, time, energy and inclination never coincide.

I don't iron - just hang things up quickly so the creases fall out. I don't clean the oven (and just don't think about it), and I ignore the dust on the blinds. Eventually I will replace them with curtains.

Of the things that actually get done, the worst is bleaching the compost bin. The one I'm putting off is changing the grease filter in the extractor hood. But it's gross so it'll have to be done soon...
