What job defeats you?

I quite like cleaning. Probably because I don't do it often enough. I love the nice smells and gleaming surfaces. But I just can't put laundry away. no idea why. There's usually between three and five mountainous baskets of the stuff to put away in our house and I always skulk off and find an excuse. There's worse jobs, like the rubbish, scrubbing out roasting tins, cleaning the loo, which I do without thinking.

Does anyone else have a job they run a mile from?

God, if you hate ironing don't iron, really.

Putting away clean laundry here too. All the satisfaction comes from nice clean sweet-smelling clothes in neat piles. no satisfaction from putting them away.

And scrubbing out cans for recycling. I just don't do it mostly.

StealthPolarBear · 17/06/2010 14:32

cleaning the oven
ironing - I mostly don't do it, when I do I actually find I don't mind it but it's the faff of putting the board up, finding enough hangers, finding the iron...plus at a time when 2 DCs are safely out of the way, especially when most of the time one or the other will wake after half an hour

GetOrfMoiLand · 17/06/2010 14:35

I hate hoovering. hate hate hate it, exacerbated by the fact we own a dyson. Thankfully we don't have any carpets in the house, so end up sweeping instead, but have to hoover a lot anyway because of crack between floorboards. I get DD to do it.

Socks. Bastard socks. Where do they all go? Laundry is all done and in neat piles and I have got 19 different socks just sat there looking at me. If I had my way I would bin all socks after wearing and just buy new ones every week.

FellatioNelson · 17/06/2010 14:46

I've just confirmed with my new cleaner that she will start on Monday. I'm SOOOOO happy. It will take me about 18 months to get sick of her, and feel that she's doing it all wrong, but for the next couple of months at least she will be my new, most favourite person and my saviour.

On socks - I have a little odd sock sack and it must have at least 35 socks in it.

Cleaning bathrooms is my most hated chore. And tidying up the kitchen and putting away food shopping, and cooking food, and clearing it all up again, and buying more food, because it is just so bloody relentless. Doesn't matter how much you do, you blink and there it all is again.

foureleven · 17/06/2010 15:01

I fond writing the list for the cleaners extra jobs really tedious!

LimaCharlie · 17/06/2010 15:08

Unloading dishwasher and putting away washing - soul destroying jobs - love ironing tho!

inthesticks · 17/06/2010 15:11

I would hate ironing but I never iron. Crumpled here too.
I thought my least favourite job was cleaning bathrooms, but when I read this thread and so many mentioned the oven I reckon that must come top.
I do at least clean the bathrooms once a week whereas the oven......... well I'm sure the heat kills the germs.

comixminx · 17/06/2010 15:27

Hoovering's ok apart from the stairs. I like to see them clean, I hate hoovering them.

I like ironing, it's quite meditative in a way. You can see the difference once you've done it which is what I like!

funkychunkymunky · 17/06/2010 15:47

Cleaning the oven, cleaning the bathrooms - I hate the smell of bleach so I have all sorts of lemon scented cleaners to use instead but I still hate it!
I find hoovering quite therapeutic but lumping the hoover up and down the stairs annoys me. So much so that I have considered buying a second one that can live upstairs...

wonderif · 17/06/2010 16:02

I am the same putting washing away i have washed all week this week after being ill for weeks (pregnancy)

but its all sitting in piles just pulled off the washing line lol

tomorrow is another day and all lol

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/06/2010 16:32

I hate cleaning the oven. And ironing.

stenogirl · 17/06/2010 16:32

I used to hate ironing until I gave it up a few years ago now.
Not fond of sweeping, hoovering or putting duvet covers on.
Anyone find it's not the actual cleaning, it's the picking up of things and tidying away that's annoying??

GetOrfMoiLand · 17/06/2010 16:38

I felt a huge surge of joy when I kicked the dyson down the stairs last year.

Bloody thing still works.

petisa · 17/06/2010 16:46

Cleaning the oven - I'm afraid mine is going to catch fire atm
Cleaning the fridge and freezer - such a mammoth task, who can be arsed?
Cleaning fat stuck on kitchen tiles
Oh god, cleaning the bin lid - that's worse! I loathe it.
Cleaning cupboards and having to move all that crap around.
Getting all hot and sweaty cleaning the bathrooms, esp the baths (v hot here)

OTOH I'm always on top of my laundry, although I don't iron. I like doing it, and don't mind emptying the dishwasher either. I make myself do it while I'm waiting for the kettle to boil.

Anyway, I must drag myself upstairs to clean the bastarding bathrooms. I've been procrastinating by writing this.

Chil1234 · 17/06/2010 16:54

Cleaning windows on the inside. The first one is tolerable - you can get a certain satisfaction out of doing it without leaving streaks. But after that it just goes downhill. And the bugger that invented conservatories wants shooting.

I'm feeling rather smug as I actually cleaned my oven at the weekend and it's gleaming!! It was disgustingly filthy though......

I'm also fairly up on laundry and ironing for once, but like a several other posters hate putting it away. Dd's is ok, but dh and I desperately need some new storage.

I hate cleaning the bathroom. Our water is so hard here that it's always a chore, but a necessary evil.

I also hate cooking, but dh is an angel and does way more than his fair share

GetOrfMoiLand · 17/06/2010 17:29

I thought I had saved the bastard socks issue - I had a sock amnesty whereby I binned all coloured socks belonging to me and DP, and stuck to black ones.

Now I have the issue of the fact that theer are 789 shades of black, with ribbed bits etc. Oh bollocks to it all. I hate socks.

MissMarjoribanks · 17/06/2010 17:32

My oven is vile. DH keeps saying he'll do it every time I say I'm going to get someone in to do it, and he never does. I'm going to give him 2 weeks and then I make the phonecall as I'm sick of it.

I hate everything to do with cleaning. Thankless, tedious work.

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 17/06/2010 17:46

I haven't ever cleaned my oven and I've lived in my house for 18 months.

I can't face it.

Cleaning the cats tray.

canella · 17/06/2010 17:53

defrosting the freezer is the rare job i hate - all that faffing with ice melting and water everywhere!!

but normal housework - bathrooms are the worst!

very grateful for my self cleaning oven - will never buy a normal one again!

Mookymoo · 17/06/2010 18:15

Never do any ironing, my Mum used to iron everything in sight (duvet covers etc) and I swore I'd never waste my life like that. Only bought an iron about 6 months ago for single needs must ironing, as the temperature on my hair straighteners was a little unreliable...

Quite like hoovering but can't be arsed to carry the bastard thing up and down stairs, even when not pregnant. There is definitely more to life than cleaning, if we had any spare money at all I'd have someone in for just a couple of hours a week to do the worst of it.
My most hated task is cleaning the bath though. Have an old fashioned bath that never looks clean anyway and can't stand bending over to do it

notagrannyyet · 17/06/2010 18:42

I've solved the sock problem at last.

My youngest is 13 and now has feet as big as his DBs. We now have dozens of black socks all the same and white sports socks all the same. So they can share them.....and no odd socks. Well there may be one! DH has old man type socks which are easily sorted.

I don't mind cleaning the oven or doing the freezer.

Socks. Even though we've gone down the all black route find they're different shade of black and it all goes downhill.

Every morning when I unload the dishwasher I think back to my mantra during labour - each contraction is one less to do - and think that there's only a finite number of plates to put away and each one is that bit closer.
