Nutty yes the torment of childhood disappointment actually I think it's worse when you are a child, you have absolutely no perspective [swan summons large folio sheets of perspective]

Another abysmal morning with children literally swearing at each other, screaming crying over the least little thing, fighting over telly programmes.

Have now (after helpless crying for 30mins)decided not to cancel communion party, BUT told the kids that we are having no more telly until after party on Sunday. Unplugged telly and hid lead. The computer broke yest. -it's hibernating whatever that means, will have to take to repair shop Screens may be the hidden poison in our house. Decontamination commences!

Then took them to tennis morning which they were v. keen to do, at swimming pool. They have all said Sorry to each other and me. Hope we can start the day afresh. Have also decided to try new rebonding tactic on dd who is quite overwhelmingly emotional at moment, which is she is going to sleep in my bed for a week, and dh can sleep downstairs. Will try anything to change bad jealous vibe in this house.

Now at swimming pool.

Done
recycling
wash load
dressed smartly
kids out of house dressed in sportswear
more rubbish removed from garden first thing

OFM enjoy fresh air today
Scatty I know you are very good at fresh air too
ML enjoy seeing your friend
Dyls yes the teddies do a lot of good work in this house too! Unfortunately I think that dd regards ds2 IS a teddy and treats him accordingly.

MickyLee · 02/06/2010 17:32

OFM hope car didn't cost too much
swan yes in the last two weeks without tv my DC have got on much better and playing really nice.. although will enjoy getting it back.

Today for me was nice. went to friends and had a lovely time then came home to the work men coming to fix mosquito nets at the windows at last... now we can sleep with our windows open at night! A bit of mess on the floor from drilling which i will vac up in the morning but a small price to pay for a good nights sleep.

Managed to get through all my list again
Buy DD off school tomorrow and no plans of what to do... staying in all day is out of the question.. maybe just supermarket and lunch out will do the trick.

Hi all. Have been to the beach again (dh down to shorts and a t shirt now! , DS and I braved the water to try his body board! It was FREEZING!!!

OFM hope you got out eventually.
swan hope you calmed them down eventually. My dd also seems to be getting more emotionally unstable as she grows , she was quite a laidback baby.
micky hope you have cooler nights now.
dyl hope you got through your list.
nutty sympathy for being on a course all week while we're all playing in the sun .

To do
sweep the sand out of the house.

dylsmum1998 · 02/06/2010 19:32

did everything off my list except cutting the grass and filling in the finance forms- I did print them off- must count for something right

am feeling exhausted now

Swan hope yours calmed down

Scatty lucky you at the beach again I would love to have been at the beach this week

Micky yay for moquito nets being fitted- enjoy your sleep tonight

Have a few phone calls i really need to make tomorrow, but for now off for a shower then relax in front of tv

MickyLee · 02/06/2010 19:43

scatty Sounds very brave of you. Did you enjoy bodyboarding though?

I have something to do tomorrow now.. A friend has her own pool so going to hers with DC to use it

Make beds
Change DD beddng(workmen made marks on it today)

evening all
Tis way past my bedtime

brief pop in

had frustrating day...complicated arrangements dropping ds off to friends house... spent ages tryingto print off research papers...printer and internet both playing up to add tomy frustartion.
DH ended up taking DC out...whilst I battled against modern technology....

good news is though car problem was minor and not expensive...phew!

So..plan for tomorrow...need a day off revising etc...so:
collect car,go out for picnic at local country park, ignoring total mess of house. Avoid use of any modern technology and dont read anything more taxing than very trashy novel

BBtomorrow folks

Shannaratiger · 03/06/2010 09:08

OverflowingMum · 03/06/2010 10:03

morning all

have woken feeling V grumpy

House a total disaster....have taken my eye ofit for a couple of days to focus on revising, and total disaster has followed... can only imagine how awful it will be if I actually get the job and have to go to work as well LOL How do you working Mummys stop your house falling down round you?????
Very fed up that No-one ever tidies up after themselves ormakes any effort. Older children are ridiculously lazy and bad at helping....not sure how to resolve the problem without lots of shouting and nagging, which never works
aaaaarrrrggghhh

OK...rant over.
Off to collect car then out for fresh air BBL

swanriver · 03/06/2010 11:04

computer mended! suddenly decided to stop "hibernating" thank goodness..but will try not to let dcs on it except for project purposes.

Well this week has gone AWOL -

dcs at tennis this morning, except for ds2 who is at home with Dh who is here till 12 due to trade fair.
tried to do shopping in between, but only succeeded in getting as far as Homebase and back again now to check on their progress at club. Ds is seriously bad at tennis although loving the games they are playing in the beginners' class, sneaked a look at him through fence, dd is of course a superstar. Oh dear, I was dreadful at tennis as a teenager, really made me feel pathetic, may have to now try private lessons for him, as he's also terrible at football, cricket, and rugby or alternately find him a greyhound (but he doesn't reallylike dogs

Tense morning ahead,
need to buy food for party
purchase new communion books at 11th hour
(they still haven't turned up
in next hour

OFM have a wonderful day out. Just keep saying positive things to the little blighters.
I got ds to do watering this morning (which he made a complete hash of)
dd to make pancakes
ds2 - no...but he built an airport
yesterday went a thousand times better once I'd decided on no telly as punishment, all calm generally now, apart from dh being in a sulk because he wants to watch it...

oh good they've come in, and waved me off for another hour, so bbl

swanriver · 03/06/2010 11:08

OFM other new strategy with kids, which seems to be working pyschologically to get them on my side, is get them to do a very little, tell them how clever they are at helping and stick to it, then increase amount they have to do, rather than coming into room and having a complete fit about how dreadful it looks, due to clothes, toys, papers strewn everywhere. Requires valium and gin and chocolate biscuits.

dylsmum1998 · 03/06/2010 12:08

Morning all.

Swan i will try that technique although not optimistic abut it working with ds- but gotta be worth a try!
OFM i need to motivate ds to help more around the house too. I seem to be cleaning constantly. Did loose my rag this morning after i cut the grass he went to go outside in bare feet. Said stop ds put shoes on first or you wil walk grass all through the house. did he listen- course not! So i sent him back in to get the hoover out and clean it all up. Came in 5 mins later and he on his laptop. So tryed positive shouting . didn't work so told to just do it. He hoovered the hall and the kitchen- i asked him to do all of downstairs

oh well off to friends ina bit so hopefully come back not too fussed about the hoovering not done.

done today;
cut grass
weeded front garden
washed up
breakfast
load washer
phoned about the chip in car window

to do
unload washer
reload washer
sort any dry washing
clean windows- window cleaner have been so i now need to do the inside
hoover living room
get ready to go to friends
tell ds he has used all his alloted screen time this morning

bbl

swanriver · 03/06/2010 17:30

Dyls - I think even one floor hoovered is pretty authoritative parenting!

everyone is in excellent spirits, house utterly messy again because we have been out except for unloading shopping (shopping done mostly]
only 2 hours spent at home this so far today, children just chilled, chair washing, bit of project, listening to Dr Who CDs..all being very nice to each other

do need to go home eventually and tidy house though [um] and cook some food for party..this thought is running through my head...without falling out with dh.

MickyLee · 03/06/2010 18:07

Hi everyone

OFM so glad to hear your car didn't need an expensive job to fix but sorry to hear yours and swans holiday stress.

My day hasn't gone to plan either. We were running late to go to friend so didn't get half of my morning jobs done and when we came home had DH extended family pop over for
3 hours with all children in tow.. resulting in now a very messy home.. toys everywhere, dirty plates and cups all over.. nevermind.. better start cleaning up the mess.. at least i have a DW!

DD at school tomorrow so can give the place a once over then.

Oh and while talking about DH family. You remember i told you about how turkish children don't have any routines? well they wwere very impressed when mine went to sleep as soon as i put them in their beds and i told them they don't wake until the morning.. they had never heard of this before.. i feel very proud

OP posts:
OverflowingMum · 03/06/2010 20:14

evening all....

nice day out at Country Park
V hot,but good fun
Lots of fresh air, walking and den building

House of course still total tip...but wine is helping

Am going to adopt swans approach once I've stocked upon gin and choccie bics (and dug out the valium LOL LOL)

dyls DH always cuts the grass before a planned paddling pool day...cue grass all through the house on 6 pairs of soggy feet...aaarrrggghhh

mickey think emigrating to Turkey could be the solution for me...wouldmake even my chaotic parenting seem organised and my children seem well behaved LOL
Good luck with tidying catch up!

BBtomorrow

wendyhappysmile · 03/06/2010 20:55

Sorry not been on all week. Starting to feel a little better physically if I get enough sleep - 10 hours minimum seems to be a requirement!! LOL Still not doing much around the house, need to get some energy going but as I get fatter and fatter (I feel huge, really wish I'd been on a diet before getting pregnant!) I am losing energy! After the hols looking forward to getting back into a routine, may start a 15 min powerwalk a few times a week for exercise!
You all seem ok, except for the usual hol stresses - luckily my DH is off this week, so it's been great. Monday we did jobs in the house that needed doing, and generally chilled out and did gardening. We have had trips to The Deep (aquarium at Hull) followed by seasise on rainy Tuesday, then Chester Zoo yesterday. Today I saw the midwife, heard the heartbeat - DD was entranced! DS been at golf with my Dad - he is really getting into it and my Dad loves taking him, it's giving him a whole new lease of life.
Not sure what tomorrow is bringing. Dh wants to go up to Hawes to the Wensleydale cheese place and take the children to see how the cheese is made, taking buttered rolls in a cool bag and then visit the shop and have a picnic ... if I can get up early enough think it's a good idea!
Well bb tomorrow hopefully

dylsmum1998 · 03/06/2010 22:11

swan you're right so it is good that ds did some of the hoovering. can you tell I still had the hump when i posted this morning? We went and had a lovely afternoon and lunch at my friends. Playing water fights in the garden, darts and just general chats. Home and playing in our garden for hours before a late bedtime as it was nice being able to sit outside with a book while dc to played.

OFM swans approach does sound good doesn't it- think I may take it too

Wendy I LOVE Chester zoo- one of my fav places. Wow at heartbeat- such a magic moment

Makingchanges · 03/06/2010 22:16

Evening all. I have had a few days break from the PC whilst I do family things. I've had a quick read through, sounds like a stressful week for a few. Had a good few days beginning of week, gardening (first time in my life!!), been to caravan, been out for a few meals and been bowling. Me and DH went shopping at Cheshire Oaks yesterday, went to buy a new wardrobe for DH now he has lost so much weight but I bought loads as well (that I don't really need or can afford) whoops. Bad day today when DH has gone back to work, DD has been a little horror, mardy and whingy all day. She has also managed to fall over on her poorly knee, cue an hour of crying, managed to get her to bed finally but not til gone 9pm.

Have managed to run hoover round today and tidy kitchen but nothing else. Need to get house sorted but think I might save it to the weekend and try and get DD in a better mood tomorrow. Thinking about going and trying playarea in local country park and taking a picnic and DDs bike. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Right night all.

wendyhappysmile · 04/06/2010 09:04

Morning all
Not enough sleep last night, feeling sick again
Hope you all have stress free days
MC hope DD is in a better mood today
OFM which Country Park is this? Sounds like a good day
Mickey Interesting the cultural differences that we in GB expect our children to follow a routine of sorts, go to bed and sleep all night etc whereas in hotter countries they are so much more relaxed about it. Do the children sleep in the afternoon?
swan your day yesterday sounded very chilled, think you have found the secret! I have used that technique but find it exhausting! But less exhausting than the shouting I usually do so I should use it more often really!
Everyone else - hi!
DC are very tired, both sleeping in the same room as we are swapping their bedrooms over and waiting for DS's new bed to arrive on Tuesday. They are waking at 5 every morning (usually 6.30 - 7). I am going to put DS on the single futon mattress we have under his bed for guests in his new room tonight!
Off to Clumber Park today - DH wanted to go to the cheese place but I feel like I don't want 1.5 hours in a car there then back again on a hot day, the children will want to run around and have fun instead, and it may be shady there (I'm not a huge fan of the sun! like it warm, but in the shade)
BB later

dylsmum1998 · 04/06/2010 09:41

mc hope dd is feeling happier today
Wendy enjoy the park.

dd and I are going to watch "show me" with chris and pui at the theatre this afternoon. So need to get jobs done this morning

done
filled in student finance forms
dc got their own breakfast

to do
get dressed
my breakfast
wash up
tidy through
hoover
s&S bathroom
wash kitchen and downstairs bathroom floors
hang out washing
iron
sort dry washing
take ds to his dads
check email constantly til i recieve the last few marks for uni!

have a good day all

OverflowingMum · 04/06/2010 10:17

morning all

wendy sorry you're feeling rough. We went to Cumber Park yesterday LOL We should have co-ordinated and met up! We love Clumber Park...we tend to drive down a bit further than the main area to a nice queit spot for picnic....Mind you everywhere was quite busy yesterday LOL Lots of trees though for shade

MC which Country Park are you off too? Rother Valley? Have a good day. Hope dd in good mood.

dyls enjoy theatre.sounds fun

right..well ,today has been declared a paddling pool and BBQ day LOL
(so of course dh has just finished cutting the grass...grrr...)

hope we can all manage to actually chill and have fun at home
We'll see

have loads to catch up on...mostly just going to concentrate on washing though!

right..must dash

BBL

swanriver · 04/06/2010 10:51

Another good day yest,
also fitted in I hour of gardening whilst dh putting kids to bed, and mountains of washingup later
laundry x 2

dd behaving muchbetter for bed sharing and we did some tennis in garden before breakfast
ds1 suffering from no-tellyblues first thing, but perked up at thought of tennis
ds2 is loving playing with all the very odd toys I pulled out of shed in big clearup on Wed afternoon

Wendy you sound like you are having wonderful week, even with early starts. It is fun reorganising bedrooms isn't it?

Even if dh were here, kind and helpful though he is, I know that we wouldn't be going on any trips - for some reason we would be quarrelling about where to go, how to get there, and what to have for lunch so sad as it is, I am just going to enjoy our slightly low key days, and wait for holidays.

todo
bag up clean fancy dress stuff to give to school (put in back of cupboard understairs)
laundry away
ironing
three loos,bathrooms
plantnew clematis
more local history project
hoover playroom
tidy four bedrooms quickly
change our sheets/wash

cook quiche
cook cakes
decorate old pinata in white tissue
find pinata ingredients
go over communion stuff with dcs
try and persuade dd to lose the net under her dress as it is a bit meringuelike
violin lesson here this afternoon, persuade dd to practice

photograph garden before invaded by guests
photograph tidy house?

MC hope dd gets better soon, could you camp up the situation and pretend to be a nurse, and then get her to nurse you?
Dyls hope the extra marks come through, and well done on the student finance forms, that must be exhausting to fill in.

swanriver · 04/06/2010 10:59

Dyls also welldone on dcs getting their own breakfst, that's an eye-opener isn't?
I think in our house it is the milk bottles that are the disasterzone, perhaps I could defeat this with a thermos jug thingy, and leave everything out for them to help themselves if they get up at crack of dawn.

My mum always used to lay breakfast table the night before and put everything out for breakfast, jam, coffee, cereal. It is was v. civilized.

I am drinking my coffee in the tennis club now, minding ds2 who is on computer next to me but at 11 we are off to do some errands, and then pickup the others at 12.00 more swimming etc.

MickyLee · 04/06/2010 11:22

Morning All

OFM Den making sounds like fun.. bet your lot came back filthy though. Enjoy the bbq and pool.

wendy how many weeks are you? Mine are early risers too.. going invest in some black out curtains for their room and see if that helps

dyls good luck with the results.. hope they contact you early

swan drinking coffee at a tennis club sounds very posh!

Well i am in a can't be bothered mood today so tackling my house through the good old 15 minute tasks.. working very well indeed i have to say.

So far i have done-

Cooked breakfast
cleaned up from breakfast
Put in DW
Put in WM
SS bathroom
Swept and mopped balcony
hung out washing
Made lunch
dusted living room
striped our bed
bits of putting stuff away as i walk around

Still got loads to put away and floors to do.

Wendy and OFM we love clumber Park as well - caravan is sited not too far away. Have to say though we prefer Sherwood Forest Pines as good cycle trails and DD lives the mushroom play area and its literally two minutes from caravan. OFM yes plan was rother valley as its just up road also Playdales is £2 for all day access now so was going to go there, however DD has managed to cut her finger and is limping from her fall yesterday so she is being dramatic. Does anyone elses DC's vomit if they hurt themselves?? So at the moment we aren't going anywhere as moving her off the settee causes a tantrum. I can't be bothered to spend the day battling so I'm going to get on with other jobs and see if she comes round a bit.

Done

  • Running on treadmill - I'm up to 3 minute runs at a time (not going to get me round 5k course in 2 weeks but should manage a better time than last year)
  • A full load of pink clothes washed - proper girly girl DD

To do

  • Possible picnic if DD picks herself up
  • Menu plan for 4 weeks - Have done one week so far - need to do four so I can rotate
  • More washing
  • Look at activities for our main holiday in 2 weeks - Need activities to please three generations
  • Look for a shoe rack online / argos - I now officially have nowhere to put my shoes
-Whats for tea - Maybe Jacket, salmon and salad
  • Grab a shower
  • Do an online shop
  • Revise for sign language exam - not looked at my notes uet this holiday

I'm hoping none of the above gets done and we get outside into the sun. I'll report back later
