Have Ikea discontinued the Trofast system?

You know, the ubiquitous and frankly genius storage system with the multicoloured boxes.

I have been looking on their website for half an hour and I can't find it!

Please tell me they haven't discontinued the range...

Thanks!

jetcat - unless your local store works differently, you have to pay for it, then take it to the delivery people. IKEA doesn't actually do the delivery, it's a separate company (and a different company for each store, it's subcontracted to a local company.

It depends on when you go, whether or not someone will be able to help you - weekends, the staff to customer ratio is so low that it'll be almost impossible. If you try during the week, when it's quieter, you might be OK. Go to one of the information desks, and they'll be able to find someone to help you if there's enough people around

thanks serenity, that helps a lot It will be during the week, probably first thing on the morning, so i might hit lucky

Many thanks

jetcat ask another customer to help you that's what i do when i'm stuck!

I managed to go to Wembley Ikea at 8.5 months pregnant and buy a Minnen bed, Trofast storage system and some bookcase or other all by myself (well, a passing customer helped me get one package down from the shelf). I think it was my version of nesting. It was a bugger getting them into the car, though. And I don't think I'd have liked doing it with a sofa.

jetcat · 21/06/2010 18:26

prof Thats some nesting! Well done you for managing with all that - i am stressing about just getting them from one side of the store to the other

ruddy - if i cant find staff, i will try that. I may leave my DD at nursery though

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 21/06/2010 18:41

I think DH was rather hoping I'd go for obsessive cleaning instead...

serenity · 21/06/2010 19:09

If you get there early, you can put her in Smaland? It's only an hour, but that should be enough time to get the big stuff sorted.

Do all IKEAs have a Smaland? They do don't they? I've never been to any other than my own!

jetcat · 21/06/2010 19:14

oooh, a full hour to browse round by myself, without her insisting on sitting on every single sofa/bed/chair etc? Bliss

Mine is Gateshead, i have seen something at the front of the store, but never really took much notice to be honest I will enquire now though

serenity · 21/06/2010 19:34

You have got one although it's only 3-7 years (but that's ok for you )

mice · 21/06/2010 20:35

Thanks serenity - I am wanting them from Bristol. Good excuse to go and buy more things I don't need as well as some little chairs!

jetcat · 22/06/2010 11:10

Thanks again. I have been umming and ahhing for ages over this, but now i see the sale starts next Friday. I was going to go on Wednesday but having never been to an Ikea sale before, i am wondering if i will get a sofa cheaper in the sales? I have no idea what kind of sofa to go for - other than it will be used as a second sofa to go with a brown leather couch

However, i would imagine that the first day of sales is going to be mega busy - so cant quite decide on my best attack yet - other than not to take DD with me. I may go for yet another browse one afternoon this week and stick DD in the play area, so that if i do go through next Friday, i know exactly what to look for

(btw, you are very kind to help us all out with our ikea enquiries, and a lot nicer than customer service)

gingerkirsty · 22/06/2010 12:14

Oooh ooh I was just browsing the ikea kids section online and I HAVE FOUND TROFAST!!!!
HTH

serenity · 22/06/2010 18:18

jetcat - no idea what's in the sale I'm afraid. We aren't having one (I don't think we are, at least not yet anyway) Usually the sales are to get rid of end of line stuff. August is one of our set times to change ranges (as the catalogue comes out) plus there's all the summer stuff to get rid off before the christmas range comes in! I know what's going from my department, but haven't trolled through the lists of everyone else's yet.

You're welcome btw - I'm happy to help. IKEA gets a bit of a knocking with queues and customer service (quite rightly some of the time) so it's nice to show we're not all bad, all the time

CoffeeCrazedMama · 22/06/2010 22:07

Serenity - you are an absolute star. Thank you so much!! Tis the white 40 x 98 as it happens. Was planning to pop into Ikea tomorrow funnily enough (have to drop dd at an exam in the area) so will snap up door before they disappear again. And some more storage boxes...and some of those gorgeous Swedish gherkins if they have any...

Hope you're not regretting revealing yourself as MN's own personal Ikea insider! You are now officially the 5th emergency service!

serenity · 22/06/2010 22:43

Weirdly enough those white 40x98s werew sort of discontinued - one lot with one article number has been replaced with a new lot with a different article number. I think we may have changed supplier or something along those lines.

Have fun tomorrow! I'm not working during the day - I do late nights on wednesday, but I'm taking DS1 in for breakfast as he has an inset day (so sad that my DCs still think an IKEA breakfast is a treat )

Nah, I don't care about people knowing where I work. I've blabbed about it quite a bit over the years (even had a meetup there back in the mists of time!) I'm still waiting for the secret MN handshake, so I can find whether it's the nice customers or the awkward buggers who are MNers...

CoffeeCrazedMama · 23/06/2010 12:17

Thanks to you Serenity I now have my billy door lol so towels will (after I'm done on here ) no longer be on display.

Got loads of useful boxes and some gorgeous (vv cheap) liqueur glasses dd noticed (I always spend more money if she's with me!) A very successful trip which I wouldn't have made without your info so thanks again.

I noticed several women buying bits of Trofast and wondered if they were Mnetters!

We were in the cafe this morning too, as it happens - bought dd a coffee and a bun as a reward for surviving GCSE German.

You should have a quiet afternoon shift anyway with the match being on - won't be many men in store will there?

jetcat · 23/06/2010 15:58

ooh ooh, i now see that there are SOME trofast options i can buy online But, not the white ones, which are the ones i want

serenity · 23/06/2010 17:59

It was probably dead during the match (I bet half the co-workers were in the canteen watching the match anyway) I don't start work until 8pm though, so we'll probably get all the people in celebrating the win by buying cheap furniture...

Actually, last world cup we had really cheap deals on to 'celebrate' England getting through to the later stages so I'm hoping we do the same this time. I've already had people asking, just have to wait and see I suppose!
