Proper folding - a revelation!

Sorry if this is very obvious common sense to everyone else, but it's made a big difference to me so thought I would share. I don't have much hanging space so have to keep most of my clothes in drawers. I used to find it a real nuisance seeing what was in each drawer and getting things out from the bottom without unfolding everything on top. This used to result in piles of clothes lying around waiting to be refolded.

I came across this video on Youtube which has really helped. I now put clothes in my drawers standing up vertically which makes it so much easier to see what's in there and means that I can take things out without disturbing everything else. The woman is a little scary but there's some good advice.

I will have to try this

DreamTeamGirl · 27/04/2010 20:55

Do you know where you can buy the draw dividers from? I would like some of them for my 'smalls' drawers

flibbertigibbert · 27/04/2010 21:06

DTG - I googled spring loaded drawer dividers and only got US websites or links to very expensive UK dividers. I considered contacting Lakeland to see whether they could start stocking some, then I thought maybe I was taking the organisation thing too far . I use a row of little vest tops folded up small as a divider which works well.

OMG! Who the hell folds their thongs!!!????

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 27/04/2010 21:15

Oh, and dont' Ikea sell drawer dividers?

CarGirl · 27/04/2010 21:19

They do and should fit in most drawers

Bleatblurt · 27/04/2010 21:50

I've just done this with all my DS1s t-shirts.

I just put them in any old way at first and it was a bit meh but then I colour coded it all and now it looks so purty. But I managed to fit in loads more than I usually can!

Thanks for the link.

DreamTeamGirl · 28/04/2010 21:51

Thanks, I shall look into drawer dividers!

I fold all my pants actually. They look nicer and are easier to find. I dont really wear thongs, but I would fold them too, albeit it not in thirds!!! Mine arent as neat as that!!

fishie · 28/04/2010 21:57

i daren't look at the link. i did love how to fold fitted sheets, but am not ready for neat clothes yet.

i like light heaps in big drawers with ironed things waiting on back of chair.

some of you might have me shot i fear.

Cadelaide · 28/04/2010 21:59

oh fishie, youare my kind of person.

This thread was terrifying me 'till I read your post.

Katisha · 28/04/2010 22:01

I assumed the video was a spoof?

Cadelaide · 28/04/2010 22:07

the thong thing is totally barking.

Katisha · 28/04/2010 22:08

It's all barking. Why fold a t-shirt into a little packet so you can stand it up?

nelliesmum · 28/04/2010 22:09

When I finally commit suicide I suspect that link will be playing quietly on a loop in the background.....and yet the whole idea is oddly compelling.

hocuspontas · 28/04/2010 22:10

Wouldn't the t-shirts be creased after being folded that last time? Mine are folded in a drawer but not that small! If you have lots of things the same colour wouldn't you have to unfold a lot of things to find the one you wanted? All in all I think I actually like an unpredictable underwear drawer. (And I'm far too lazy to faff with pants)

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 28/04/2010 22:11

Don't tell me, someone is making a living out of "advising" us how to fold clothes.....

NathanBarley · 28/04/2010 22:14

It made me feel really uncomfortable watching her fold that bloody thong...I hope it was a new one and thus unworn.

Surely the folding tshirts to same size thing only works if they are the same length.

I made my own folding board out of card from instructions on the net, it is gabby and cost nothing.

NathanBarley · 28/04/2010 22:15

Not gabby, fabby! Curses to you iPhone autocorrect

SixtyFootDoll · 28/04/2010 22:16

I am sure it works fine if you own about 5 t shirts but I have about 20

ThisIsSpatchcocked · 28/04/2010 22:19

For those who are into it, ROLLING your towels is also a fab way of organising. Fit loads more in Just fold in half length wise , then again in half width wise, then roll. Lovely!

BUT I do think you have waaaaaaay to much time on your hands if you fold gstrings!!

NathanBarley · 28/04/2010 22:20

Yes life is too short to fold underwear. I suppose she irons hers. And her tea cost and her toilet roll cover.

drloves8 · 28/04/2010 22:52

lol ....i do the folding thing , but draw the line at the underwear (too much of it)... i fold sheets ,duvet covers and pillow cases and put a set into a pillowcase -saves searching .

drloves8 · 28/04/2010 22:54

roll towels only for suitcases...towels should be folded damn it!

brimfull · 28/04/2010 22:57

ffs that woman needs to get a life!

DreamTeamGirl · 28/04/2010 22:58

drloves I do that too

I like to be able to find my bed linen easily
