...over to you. Pleeeeeeease...

I'm desperate for a new one. Have a Dyson DC 24 at the moment (less than six months old and it's too temperamental for my liking, plus I can't be doing with the short wand cleaning thingy), seriously hate it. I prefer an upright, but open to suggestions. Help!!!

What's your recommendation??

-------------------

Hello!

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing out vacuum cleaners, so here's the best vacuum cleaner on the market as recommended by Mumsnetters.

Hope this helps! Flowers

I love my Henry.

Indith · 19/03/2010 17:25

I love my Miele. The cheapest little one on the John Lewis website and it is lovely.

PuppyMonkey · 19/03/2010 17:27

Thanks both. I've got used to bag-less... will I be able to cope with a bag again??? Missus!

I hate bagless! Bags are so much nicer, everything stays nice and contained.

FrazzleRock · 19/03/2010 17:29

Bugger, am saving up for a DC24
my friend loves hers!

PuppyMonkey · 19/03/2010 17:35

I'm not keen Frazzle. The rotating head keeps packing up when it gets a long hair caught in it or something. And the ball thing is nice, but it doesn't get everywhere.

Missus again.

Henry. Looks crap. Utterly simple. Solidly built. Nothing to fall off. YOu get the idea/

Furball · 19/03/2010 18:06

I've got a cheap (well £150, but cheap for a decent hoover vacuum) Miele cylinder thingy.

I used to have dyson after dyson etc but enough is enough.

The cylinder vacuums are a different action and probably more effort than an upright, but it's still easy.

trice · 19/03/2010 18:09

I have a miele which I love. And an electrolux that I would like to throw down the stairs.

I did throw the dyson down the stairs. I hate being able to see the crap I am hoovering, it makes me feel queasy.

PuppyMonkey · 19/03/2010 19:17

Thanks for the responses. I'm tipping towards a Miele at the mo... going in the morning to try some out at Currys.

BEFORE YOU GO I have had Miele, Hoover,Sebo Electrolux , Samsung , LG You get the idea, we are a heavy household, 5 teenage boys. My vote goes to the SEBO , then to Miele, Cylinders. I use a hand held Dyson too, which operates for short time spans, and recharges all the time so its cordless. That way I use a brush on hard floors daily, and just whizz it into cordless. Brilliant.

IngridFletcher · 23/03/2010 17:35

I have had dyson and it fell apart. Then I had a Henry and it stopped working. Then I got a Miele and so far it has not fell apart or stopped working.

ByTheSea · 23/03/2010 17:36

I heart my Miele Cat and Dog after two crap Dysons.

Hulababy · 23/03/2010 17:42

I have a DC24. Had it a few months and so far so good. Not had any trouble with it at all. I love how compact and light it is. Copes on the carpet, laminate and vinyl, and does 3 floors and 2 flights of stairs easily.

brimfull · 23/03/2010 17:47

I have a henry which I loathe with a passion.
I borrowed my neighbours dc24 to see what everyone was raving about and tbh I wasn't that impressed. WOn't be getting one of those.
My mil is a complete clean freak and swears by her sebo. She tried them all out in john lewis and sebo was winner.

nappyzoneloveslindor · 23/03/2010 17:49

i have a dyson animal and i like it but id love one of those ball ones with the wide end to get under the sofa edges .

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 23/03/2010 17:51

I could have written Bythesea's post, also have Miele Cat and Dog after two rubbish Dysons.

anniepanniepears · 23/03/2010 17:56

SEBO for me best vacum I have ever had

SixtyFootDoll · 23/03/2010 17:58

I hate my HEnry.
It bangs into the woodwork, tips over and generally annoying.

muggglewump · 23/03/2010 18:09

I use a Henry at work. They are shit, weigh a ton and don't pick up as well as uprights, oh and the wheels fall off and the hose comes out.

brimfull · 23/03/2010 18:11

It was ball dyson I borrowed , prob not dc24??
def not worth £295

brimfull · 23/03/2010 18:13

I ideally want an upright sebo for the carpets upstairs and a cylinder for downstairs

PlumSykes · 23/03/2010 18:13

Miele Cat and Dog, after 10 yrs of Dysons. Is fab.

Got it here, was cheap and arrived very quickly.

iMum · 23/03/2010 18:15

SEBO evertytime, ive had loads of vaccum cleaners and seriously the SEBO is tops!
