...over to you. Pleeeeeeease...

I'm desperate for a new one. Have a Dyson DC 24 at the moment (less than six months old and it's too temperamental for my liking, plus I can't be doing with the short wand cleaning thingy), seriously hate it. I prefer an upright, but open to suggestions. Help!!!

What's your recommendation??

Hello!

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing out vacuum cleaners, so here's the best vacuum cleaner on the market as recommended by Mumsnetters.

Hope this helps! Flowers

I like my Henry because the lead is really long and I can plug it into the socket in the hall and do the entire house, even upstairs without unplugging it and plugging it in somewhere else. (I have a medium size house.)

Also the hose is nearly long enough to do all but the top two stairs while the Henry waits at the bottom, however it is supposed to actually be long enough to do all of them.

I add my vote to Miele Cat and Dog after two rubbish Dysons

Another vote here for the Miele Cat and Dog!

I currently have a Dyson which is on its last legs, and I'm desperate to get a Miele Cat & Dog having read all the rave reviews on here. But I'm just a bit nervous about moving from a bagless cleaner to one with bags - I have a hairy dog and need to empty the Dyson every week. It could cost me a fortune in bags!! So if you have a long-haired pet and a Miele Cat & Dog, how often do you need to change the bag? Thanks!

I've got a Miele, but not the cat & dog one, just the most basic one that was available at the time. Had it nearly 6 years, have moved house 3 times during that period and have dropped it down the stairs several times and it is the most solid, seemingly unbreakable thing ever. Picks up really well too. I use it on parquet, tiles and carpet and it's great.

I love Henry. He is sturdy, pick-uppy and unbreakable. And he smiles at me.

I have a Miele Cat and Dog upright - great for carpets and a Henry cylinder, great for stairs and hard floors.

Henry is crap on deep pile carpets

Miele upright is too heavy for stairs.

If I had to have only one I would plump for the Miele Cat & Dog Cylinder.

Sebo are also meant to excellent

I have a Hetty- she's pink and helps me round the house. We have a great time together cleaning the house. She's smaller than Henry, but I love her!

The bag thing is good and you can buy them from Comet- easy to remove and put in the bin outside without any dust spilling.

I have had a Vax (crap) and a Dyson (even crapper). If anything breaks with Hetty I know you can buy replacements on the web, although this hasn't happened in the 18 months she has lived here!

The only issue is my husband's masculinity whilst hoovering with a pink vacuum cleaner!

I have an Oreck which I got from QVC. I have a friend who has a house with 8 reception rooms (I kid you not) and she said it was the best one as she didn't have a cleaner while the house was being done up for a year.

Oreck comes with a little over the shoulder cleaner too which is useful. I also love my rechargeable GTtech sweeper which is great for kitchen floor and a quick scoot round if visitors are coming. It's so light and having no lead is fab.
