i need a washer that will last longer than two years!!

i have noticed miele is coming top or close to in all the reviews but they are a bit out of our prie range.

i reviewed the last time i bought and hotpoint wlt something or other kept coming up quite well so i bought it and have had to replace the pump and it has now gone again. it isn't even two years old!!

the one before that was beko which i have been told since then are useless. still it managed longer than the hotpoint.

so, although cost is important, i would be more than happy to pay a bit extra if i thought i would get good mileage out of a machine. any recomendations ladies?

I second the miele recommendation,sorry!
It was expensive but came with a 10 year guarantee.Its about 3 years old now,no problems with it and is on every day.,for 4 kids.

My Hotpoint lasted less than 3 years and that was having just about every part replaced - would never have another.

To tide us over until we can afford a new one, someone gave us their old Bosch. It is about 10 years old but still does a fab job.

are bosch and miele manufactured the same way or part of the smae company or soemthing like that? i heard something along those lines, that bosch was pretty much miele only cheaper.

Are you using liquid or soap powder. A lot of the machine in the last couple of years die quicker if you are using liquids according to a number of sites. I have just prostituted bought myself a miele. Am really impressed althought one minor niggle - no delayed start. Have you got a which subscription. I think you can join free for month or something. It does list some of the more reliable brands interesting beko does cheap machine and gets an above average for realiability. It gets marks down for its spin speed 1200 vs 1400/1600 elsewhere.

i use powder. i have never used liquid (too expensive)

no which subsription. they have a trial for £1 for a month so might be worth the £1 to see what is getting good scores.

i have to be honest, i am not sure how reliable the reviews and such are. i find most of the people who write reviews have only had their machines a few months which is understandable. and i know that if someone says they have had theirs 10 years that i obviously wont be able to still get that machine!! i dont know, there are actually too many choices when it omes to washing machines!!!

anyone know anything about the new 11kg machines?

I have had a tricity bendix for 8 years and it's still going. The fabric softner bit hasn't worked properly for ages though so it needs a water flush but I use it 2-4 times a week.

There are people that post their own views on their, however, which do their own independent reviews. it covers everything from how well it cleans to how reliable the brand is. The bekos just miss out on being best buys but it is nothing to do with how well they clean - it is the spin speen - I could live with that. On the powder front how accurate are you with your dosing it is actually very easy to over dose the machine again this kills them- bit go wrong then it dies. Its something to do with them using less water. we had two machines a bosch and a zanussi in five years I was seriously hacked off. Now I am ultra careful with soap powder dose and even weight of washing.

The new 11kg machine is an LG it hasnt been reviewed yet.

This Beko WME8227 washing machine is a good all-rounder. It comes very close to our Best Buy standard thanks to its impressive washing performance and energy use.

It has an above average 8kg drum, which takes plenty of laundry, but there are machines with even larger drums.

We wash cotton and easy-care loads in our tests, and results for this machine are good. It washes a full load of cottons at 40°C in two hours 17 minutes (17 minutes per kg), while a 4kg easy-care load takes one hour and 31 minutes. It's about average for noise and rinsing.

It's AAB rated, and energy and water use are both good. The spin operates up to 1200 rpm, which is a lot slower than some machines on the market, but we found it was good enough at spinning water out of laundry.

The Beko is easy to use and comes with an array of programs and special features. There's a rinse-hold program, and you can add extra rinsing or extra spinning. There's a short program for clothes that aren't too dirty, as well as programs for non-iron items, woollens and clothes that you'd normally wash by hand. A delay timer allows you to set the Beko to wash up to 24-hours later, and an LCD display shows how your laundry is progressing.

Most of the machines have for example are listed as 8kg machines. that only relates to cotton, synthetics are often around 3kg.

Definitely worth the £1 - you can look through all the machines.

We have a 13yr old Zanussi. We have had to replace the heating element once (when it was 9 years old).
For the last 9 years the machine has been in France where the machine is only plumbed into cold water so the heating element does do alot of work.

We bought our John Lewis washer 4 years ago (about £300). Never any problems. Has been moved a couple of times and our dcs hang on the door from time to time. Not many features, but it just keeps going!

I second the John Lewis machines, we bought a £250 one late last year.

Dp had a long look at review, and miele's were out of our price range, and the Jl ones had really good reviews. One of the best things is it comes with a 3 year warranty, so if anything goes wrong in them 3 years they'll fix it.

Can fault it so far.

I have a hotpoint thats lasted 6 years and has recently started to not rinse properly.

If you call their service centre (sorry can't remember number but can google it) then you can get a year's warranty where they fix it and if anything else goes wrong with the machine then they fix that too - or if its 'uneconomical' to fix they give you a new machine. You don't have to keep the insurance beyond a year but if you do then the price halves each year.

The price depends where you live - I'm in London, so dearer, and was quoted £16.99 pm (for 10 months, for the year's cover) and when I said I needed to check with husband she reduced it to £13.49 immediately). Much cheaper than the new Bosch I was going to buy (athough not as shiny and new!).

They could send an engineer the following day, so pretty good service.

I actually had the warranty with Hotpoint. Took about a week to get an engineer each time.

I'm not sure under what circumstances they would actually replace the machine - ours went on fire on the inside at one point. The lady on the phone actually argued with me that this was impossible but when the engineer came out and took it apart where the "memory" is was all black with smoke damage - they still didnt replace it even though I argued it was becoming dangerous.

6 engineer call outs in the first 2 years - no will never be convinced to buy another Hotpoint.

thank you all, i have posted on another forum aswell asking the same and bosch and zanussi seem to be coming up tops as the long runners.

We've had our Bosch for nearly 7 years and it's still going strong. It's been shipped over to France in that time, left in a cold barn for months and even had a large piece of stone drop on it which broke the front of the soap dispenser but it still works. Excellent value for money, would definitely recommend it.

I've had my bosch for 6 yrs and it is a very busy machine! (Dog beds, horse saddle pads and bandages caked in mud, gym/hockey/football kits and very grubby children)

I washes brilliantly, although not the quickest cycles but good spin so drying time on line or dryer v minimal.

I bought a graded one, has a dent in the side and was £100 off with the same parts guarantee. I have the John Lewis tumble dryer, although that only 4.5 and not used so much but still no problems.

A repair man told me Miele, Bosch or Zanussi are the most reliable brands.

Honestly, by the time you include the extended guarantee in the price Miele aren't that expensive. And they are, quite simply, fabulous.

i do know that the investment in miele would probably be worth it but OH is not convinced. he thinks it is an obscene amount of money to pay for a washing machine. i can see where he is coming from. especially if it broke down after a few years

Another vote for John lewis they have a great 3 year warranty. Mine was about £300-more than the cheapest of cheap, but not bad I thought.
My previous Indesit had to be fixed 3 times in less than 2 years and it cost about the same.

does anyone experience a bosch where the spin just aint what it used to be? maybe i have consistently overloaded it? apart from the spin it is fine- 5.5 years and counting. things used to come out almost bone dry on the 1400rpm spin now they really quite damp....

Zannussi get my vote

i vote john lewis too, all their own brand washers are zannussi manufactured, and come with an extented warranty.
i love mine, i previously had a hoover one which i loved but when it died i just couldn't get a comparable machine for love nor money, and john lewis/zannussi machines seemed to be the best next to the very expensive miele ones.

I had a beko and its useless, broke after 18mths. One before that was an indesit and that lasted 2 and half years. I spoke to a family friend who fixes washers and he said you cant go wrong with a german washer, miele being the best, he said if anything goes wrong though only a miele engineer can fix them so a better option would be an ISE if your worried about repair costs, he said they typically last 10 years+.

He had a miele and hes had it almost 16 years but his next one would be an ISE if he replaced it. I too thought both were well out of our price range so we asked about a boche as we have a bosch fridge freezer which is around 8-9 years old and still going strong. He said bosch are ideal if the others were too expensive so i think we are going to go with that.

Miele anything else is false economy. IMO
