i have noticed miele is coming top or close to in all the reviews but they are a bit out of our prie range.

i reviewed the last time i bought and hotpoint wlt something or other kept coming up quite well so i bought it and have had to replace the pump and it has now gone again. it isn't even two years old!!

the one before that was beko which i have been told since then are useless. still it managed longer than the hotpoint.

so, although cost is important, i would be more than happy to pay a bit extra if i thought i would get good mileage out of a machine. any recomendations ladies?

Zanussi. I've had mine for 5 years now, have used it a helluva lot, and it is still going strong.

just noticed that miele's 10 year parts and labour warranty excludes northern ireland so for that reason alone, i wont be buying one of them. pity because the warranty was swaying me towards them.

i have found an 8kg bosch logixx with 1600 spin which is good because we dont get much wind in our garden and clothes tend to stay damp. i have emailed OH to see what he reckons if he is in agreement we will probably go for that.

also found the zanussi and miele had smaller drums than the bosch aswell.

I have to recommend Bosch. I've had most of the 'normal' makes over the years and they didn't las long either. The Bosch is just brilliant I would have one any day. Mine is 6 years old and still going strong.

Don't have it on the fastest spin speed all the time. In fact as little as poss (maybe just for towels).

A washing machine man told me that's why so many machines wear out early. They should be lasting a lot longer than 2 yrs.

FWIW we have a Bosch and I really like it.

I am really happy with my miele and think if you can possibly get the cash together that is the best buy,it will be cheaper in the long term than a less reliable machine.

Oh sorry, computer went a bit wappy there. Spinning too fast obv.

I've posted today about washers as mine is broken, though it may be easily repairable, man is due out tomorrow.

I won't be able to afford another Zanussi or anything expensive really if I need a new one, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Zanussi if I could. This will be the first time in 9 years anything has gone wrong with it, and it's a washer/drier too which supposedly don't last long.

You can get a very decent Bosch machine for under £400 (Bosch & Siemens are the same company - Miele is on its own)

I'm another miele supporter (sorry!) They clean brilliantly, you can put delicate and hand wash stuff in there and everything comes out almost dry the spin is so good. It's also very very very quiet. You wouldn't buy a miele and find it went wrong after a few years - and if you did, most of their goods come with a 10 year guarantee. We got a 10 year guarantee on the dishwasher too.

BooyhooNOTboohoooORbooyou · 19/03/2010 19:27

the 10 year guarantee isnt available in northern ireland emsyj, which is where i live.

we have settled on a bosch. going to buy it tomorrow.

i do appreciate all responses. thank you all.

My Zanussi Jetstream is 8 years old and the only time I've had to get a man in is when my bra wire got stuck
It's fabulous, got a wide door that is angled so easier to use than my previous flat-door washer. Use it 4-5 times a week ... seriously no issues at all. Highly recommended.
