Fairy - any tips welcome, but yes potty moves with us to tv room, upstairs if we're playing up there, etc. He prob could've hit the potty from his tv chair if he'd tried harder...
Got him to 'finish' a wee upstairs standing at the loo, maybe that's the key for wees, 'be like Daddy'...

JKS - link to handbag? Sounds lovely.

DS has surpassed Freakoids DS weeing in a cup.

After being fairly excited because DH got him a playmobil canon with lots of teeny tiny bits (why? DH why? ), DS ran upstairs to go to the loo. In his rush he was a bit off target. I could hear crying and DH shouted if I could help. I was sat downstairs thinking surely its not that bad. I looked round the bathroom door to a revolting scene. DS had done a massive and not very solid (sorry if TMI) poo on the edge of the loo seat with some on the floor. It stank. I had to clean it up holding a bottle of lavender oil under my nose, while DH sorted out DS.

Have looked on TkMaxx website for handbag and can't find it.

JustKeepSwimming · 25/02/2010 19:52

But have found link for fleecy top
here

fluffier than the pic shows though!

FairyLightsForever · 25/02/2010 20:10

HMHB oh yuck, poor you!

out of curiosity, are you rewarding him, and if yes with what, JKS? I started with stickers, with very little success, so we're now on chocolate buttons, which works really well. No surprise there, then!
I started off rewarding 1 button for sitting on the potty and trying, or making any attempt to get there, even if she started to go on the floor but made it to the potty for the last few drops.
She got 2 if she sat on it in time and did the whole wee in the potty.
And 3 if she did a poo, but that is because she has far more trouble with the idea of pooing in the potty.
Now that she has mostly got the hang of it we, she just gets 1 for wees and 2 for poos...

FairyLightsForever · 25/02/2010 20:11

sorry, that was a bit of an essay

Lol, no probs

I like your plan and might change to it.
Atm he gets a sticker for a successful wee or poo (have decided 2 stickers for both) on his chart + a 'special' button with sprinkles on.
When he gets a full line of stickers he gets a gold star and every star = a prize.
We have the next 2 prizes on the top shelf already for him to drool over

We have also started taking off a sticker if he has an accident at home, they go back on the sticker pad and he can reclaim them next success.

but maybe more buttons needed.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/02/2010 20:43

HMHB - oh my god, that is truely disgusting!

FairyLightsForever · 25/02/2010 21:14

I'd bought Spongebob stickers as DD is a little obsessed with him at the moment, but she wasn't interested in the stickers at all!

However if I need her to try to wee before we go out and she's insisting she doesn't want to, I just say "but don't you want a chocolate button?" and she will immediately sit and try!

I don't know how old your DS is, but DD is almost 3 (if that makes any difference at all )

JustKeepSwimming · 25/02/2010 21:35

he's 3 & 9months.
just smiley face sticker for the chart, until the gold star which is just a plain gold star.
think i need to break open the buttons for more immediate 'doling out'!

wastingaway · 25/02/2010 21:46

HMHB, that's gross!

Dominique, very busy few days!

With potty training DS who was nearly 3 responded well to bribery incentivisation. Wee on the loo got one sweety, poo on the loo got one chocolate egg. He had it sussed within a couple of weeks and forgot about the treats thankfully.

The nursery said he was ready for it which is why it worked so well for him. All about timing apparently.

I kept the treats up by the loo.

PlumBumMum · 25/02/2010 22:30

JKS not sure about the standing up bit yet, ds has only started standing now and he's 6, but he already has started to forget to put the seat down poor dd2 always gets cut out annd with wee bum nearly falls in

This weekend do naked bottom half, honestly it will work and maybe make him sit on potty every hour,
we even had a song bye bye mr pee pees when flushing and waving down the toilet they all loved it, he will love the attention and carry on

tomorrow
dd1 hospital eye app
weigh in for slimming thread
MUST take up dd1s Jazz pants
groceries
meal plan
eat healthy
drink lots of water
declutter kitchen worktops
put away dry washing
put on a wash

FairyLightsForever · 25/02/2010 22:48

PBM is right, DD was bottom half naked for most of the first 2 weeks, as she just thought that trousers = nappy.

I used pull ups at first, when going out, but as soon as she was using the potty (when naked bottomed) regularly, I stopped using them.

It took about 3 or 4 days of accidents before she got the hang of it. She still doesn't ask if she is dressed, so I have to watch her carefully and remind her to go, as she still struggles with pulling her trousers down.

I may have already said it, but a Pampers bed mat under the potty is a good idea. DD went several times standing right next to the potty ( a couple of times having just stood up from sitting on it).

and at PBM's DD!

PlumBumMum · 25/02/2010 23:11

omg my speling is awful lately
caught out
fairylights I did thnk I should put a in there too

JustKeepSwimming · 26/02/2010 07:12

Thanks everyone, after my initial reluctance i have gone for naked bottom half
i have a big towel under the potty for misses too.
and we've been going for every 30mins to have a 'try'. never mind, have the weekend to really get on top of it, with buttons
I do believe that they can be ready or not ready and part of me is wondering if he's not ready really. but then he can hold it in/stop it which is a new thing for him.

FairyLightsForever · 26/02/2010 08:42

I had tried DD before and she definitely wasn't ready. In preparation this time I put her in really cheap (Asda Smartprice) nappies, so that she felt wet. It got her used to the fact that nappies weren't nice, whereas she'd never been bothered about being in them before.

Although DD was physically ready, being able to hold it, etc, like your DS, she almost seemed slightly scared of using the potty. I felt that she didn't like seeing what she was producing, IYKWIM.

We also are the proud owners of 3 potties , a pottette and a toilet seat. she will only use one of the potties or the toilet seat. She will use the pottette, but she prefers to use it as the toilet seat rather than as a potty (it does both). In my convoluted way , I'm trying to say that the choice of potty is important, but more for how comfortable it is, than how it looks!

ToccataAndFudge · 26/02/2010 08:47

JKS - how old is he?

You know my DS1 could "wee on command" from 18 months old but was only potty trained at just before he turned 3 - although it took 3 weeks before he was anything like "dry" in the day - and months before we stopped having no.2 accidents (ie I don't think he was really ready - just I had DS2 coming along soon after and I wanted to get him done before )

I slept in this morning, not a good start to the day.

Kids are out to school on time though so going to have a coffee before I even attempt to make a list.

FairyLightsForever · 26/02/2010 08:50

Oh yes, the real reason I'm supposed to be here:-

Breakfast
Wash up (or load dishwasher)
Clean sides
Tidy living room
Hoover living room
Work out way of fixing room divider to separate teens and toddlers
Washing load on
Washing hung out

That will do for now, need to do this in manageable chunks!

JustKeepSwimming · 26/02/2010 08:55

DS1 is 3&9mo so should be more than ready by now.
Have a choice of potties too though i find that the standard potties are too small for him, the potette is ok and i have been tempted by the 'throne' style ones but don't have one. He has already had a try standing up like Daddy this morning, and Daddy has agreed to take him every time he needs a wee over the weekend so that might help, and i have extra buttons so he will be sick of chocolate by Monday, lol!

right, back to list!

wasting - it's not raining here but it's very very windy. I also have to go out.........hoping that once H gets up he might let me leave DS2 at home......

cikecaka · 26/02/2010 09:37

No time for a list this morning as I have to bring DD2 for blood tests this morning. Bus going at 10 and there is not one back til 1.30

Alicetheinvisible · 26/02/2010 09:37

Morning

Tried to post last night but it was playing up.

DH brought home maltesers and tulips yseterday to apologise for being a grumpy bum all week

JKS my friend's DS would still be in nappies now (nearly 6) if she hadn't made him toilet trained. It just didn't bother him, i think some children are never 'ready' in the traditional sense anyway. Some things have to be taught. My sis is struggling with her DD atm too, she just holds it all day!

It is wet and windy here today and i have still got a bit of a headache, so just more washing and everyday stuff, no list

Have a good day
