Bit of a change of plan, DH turned the horses out on his way to work this morning, so that has given me loads of extra time.

Can i have a bit of a rant? (will anyway, feel free to ignore)

There was a thread a couple of days ago, someone moving to suffolk, wants a semi rural location, needs to be within half an hour of a certain town. I suggested our town. It is a small town, ruralish, but very good access to decent roads/trains etc, 15mins from the town they want to be near, 15mins from another, big, historical town.

Posters then come on, slagging off my town and suggesting beautiful villages nearby. Fine, but without boasting, DH earns a fair bit over the average wage (enough that we can afford 2 cars and horses) and there is no way we could afford to move to these villages without having at least £400k to spend on a house. The op wants to rent a 4bedroom house. It is highly unlikely that there will be affordable 4 bedroom houses in these villages to rent iyswim?

Why does this happen so much on MN? People come on wanting actual advice, and end up getting posters telling them they need this house, dress, shoes, coffee machine etc totally over budget but trying to talk them into it. Grrrrrrr, makes me a bit cross

ToccataAndFudge · 17/03/2010 09:04

I'm here, just been very naughty (fgs don't tell the rest of MN )

Fell asleep on the sofa last night at 10pm (was feeling urggh......had eaten egg earlier which I think I've developed an intolerance to), woke up at 1.30am, couldn't get back to sleep until 5.

So I let DS2 walk to school with DS1 and his friend. I did stand at the door and see them across the road in front of my house though - so there was only 1 other small road to cross. And I know he'll go into school, and I do actually trust him to be sensible with roads even without 2 older children with him.........and I promise I won't make it a regular occurance. I was just so bloody tired and did't manage to drag myself out of bed until 8.30

ToccataAndFudge · 17/03/2010 09:13

ok - must make a list.

I now have some lovely files and plastic sleeves for my paperwork

1 folder for bills/houshold stuff
1 folder for school and church stuff
1 folder for OU stuff
1 folder for "anything else"

Once upon a time I (well it was "we" then) did have a filing cabinet.....but that didn't work, then I had one of those filing boxes.......and that wasn't really working (and it's broken anyhow)

So decided folders with my papers in those plastic sleeves is the next option to try.....only cost me £4 for all the bits so not a huge loss if I decide I hate it and want to try a different system

But first things first

TO DO (before 10am)

Coffee (in progress)
Dress DS3
Put load of washing in
Put dishes away that I did last night
Check FB games

wastingaway · 17/03/2010 09:31

Morning!

I know the roads are busier than when I was little, but me and sis used to walk to school when I was 10/11 and she was 6/7. I guess it was when we moved down the village and the walk was simpler, ie. straight up the main road. I guess she was walking by herself from 8, when I moved to comprehensive school.

Right, list.

  • Me up, showered and dressed done
  • beds made, windows and curtains open done
  • DS up, nappy changed and dressed, then downstairs for boob done
  • spatone + OJ + vitamins done
  • breakfast done
  • condensation patrol
  • laundry - fold dry washing done, put load in
  • coffee + check email and online banking doing
  • try babywipes on sink again
  • change beds
  • flea market and farmers market
  • lunch
  • ?
  • 15 mins gardening (with my new garden go-kit in a flexitub)
  • feed the birds
  • take rubbish and recycling out
  • tea - roast beef
  • put breadmaker on?
  • tidy downstairs
  • DS bath and bed
  • wipe round bathroom and OCM + clean the floor
  • is the kitchen cleared?
  • ready for the morning? bag packed?
  • write list for tomorrow
  • knitting

To Do -

  • plan Christmas 2010, next - decide on one or two gifts I?d like to make, find patterns, instructions etc. and buy materials, have a session looking through craft books and mags, and websites for inspiration
  • Let?s go swimming! - schedule a date to go and double-check times
  • sort digital photos and order any I want prints of
  • Write CV started research CV writing online
  • find easy slow cooker recipes started
  • mirrors - buy a small mirror for above the bathroom sink, big mirror up in bedroom, other mirror up - quite heavy, will picture hook do? No, need to drill and screw
  • get new curtains for front room
  • shelves in cupboard + clean and anti-mildew paint (project for next Dad visit, 25th)
  • adjust Tripp Trapp

ToccataAndFudge · 17/03/2010 10:01

actually wasting - if it wasn't for the fact that everyone else I know would be totally an utterly disapproving - even my close friends I would actually let DS2 walk to school with DS1 and his friends every day. He's actually more sensible than DS1 is in many respects, and a lot more aware of his surroundings (but DS1 has been walking up to school and back since he was 7 - YR3).

Wouldn't let him go on his own yet, but I don't actually have any concerns about him going with his brothers there are 2 small roads to cross.......on which the only traffic in the mornings is school parents dropping off......and the traffic moves so slowly up and down because of cars parked on both sides (there's no where else for residents to park so it's only ever single file on both streets) that I would let him.

Actually when he was in reception I did let DS1 pick him up from his dance club that he did at school a few times, as the end clashed with the end of our after school service (which I play for).

Infant school didn't actuall have any issues about letting DS1 (then YR3) pick DS2 up and bring him across one of those roads to the church.

Although I must say - until I moved here the other week the parents of the 2 friends that call for him in the morings never let their DS's walk any part of the way to school on their own, so no road crossing from them at all on their own.

1st day we did the school run from here - we met them at the infant school gates (have to walk past it to go up to the juniors). 2nd day we were running late and one of the mum's walked the other 2 boys through the church and saw them across the street to knock for DS1.

3rd day...........they came and knocked on their own. And both parents have said that it seemed like a good opportunity to give their oldest DC a little bit more independence.

ToccataAndFudge · 17/03/2010 10:04

ToccataAndFudge · 17/03/2010 10:51

ok..........2nd list not going so well - I think I'd better get going if I want any chance of getting some of it done before the time I set myself

FreakoidOrganisoid · 17/03/2010 11:05

TAF when we had the snow I had to go and pick some stuff up from H's house and let the alarm man in to reset the code(h was away)and dd was a bit poorly and didn't want to go out so I sat her on the sofa, put dora on tv and told her she was NOT to move from the sofa and went with just ds. I would never normally do it and wouldn't have left ds but dd is quite sensible and well behaved, H lives the next street along and I had to walk along a footpath not by the road so no chance of getting hit by cars etc. I can also see my house all the way along the path just not when I go round the corner and into H's house. I know pretty much everyone on MN would flame me for that though (dd is 3.10)

Alice I agree a lot of the time people suggest ideals rather than reality on here! Also because it's "words on a screen" (to quote SM) people don't always think that they might upset people by rubbishing their suggestion/home town/choice etc.

Have a friend that I haven't seen for ages coming after lunch, she is ex forces and scarily tidy [eek]. Have tried to remove most of the clutter and once I've hoovered, wiped the sides etc it should look ok but nowhere near her standards!

My bathroom is really pissing me off too, no matter how clean it is it never looks it

DONE
All up etc
dd to preschool
clothes off radiators and put away
sofa covers back on
declutter mantlepiece
declutter kitchen sides
recycling into box

wipe sink
tidy bathroom

Pick up dd

Afternoon

I am calmer now about the whole thing it just irks me that you post on a thread i have a budget of (say) £20 for a dress/shoes whatever and out of 20 posts at least 18 of them would say, "ooh, this is lovely (£35)" or "why not get both of these" I am sure it is just people trying to live through other people iyswim?

Anyhow, i am feeling quite proud of myself today. I have cleared my side table, been to the library, taken DD to playgroup and booked a taster for dance lessons for DD for next week.

is trying to decide whether is slattern or listmaker.....

Will pop back soon marking my place.

wastingaway · 17/03/2010 16:22

Hi Nettie.

Yes JKS, the babywipes worked. Plenty of elbow-grease and thumb-nail application still needed like, but it's gone.

That's the thing about Range, I really am in there all the time, and I'm huge and a bit weird anyway. Easy to spot.

I might be brave enough in a few days.

We went to Morrisons though as I needed coffee anyway.

Afew things going on JKS.

Been trying to get gynae consultants appt. Had letter saying the next appointment is in 18 weeks so been on phone loads today to try and get one sooner. long story blah blah.

Also had a fret about DD's feeding and wondering whether to give her 1 bottle a day to help me cut down for when I go back to work. link here

Work rang again to find out when I am going back so had to tell them about issue with childminder/nursery and possibly not going back til July when I had told them May.

Hmm, seems like a lot now I have written it down!
