mission

morning all.
looks like i have another day off, daughter has conjunctivitis, or it seriously looks like it anyway. docs at 10.40 to confirm and collect drops.
have phoned my placement, am feeling a bit concerned now I need to ask the headteacher of this placement for a reference to be able to get on my PGCE (assumng i pass the interview) but since September I have hd off 3 weeks for my chest infection, a week off for dd's tummy bug, a week off last week as ds school was shut snow and now this week. I only go in on a wednesday so feel this is making me look really unreliable.

am also concrned how if i manage to get a job I manage if we have this level of illness again. what do people who have jobs do when dc are ill??

anyway wednesday I MUST stop procsrastinating and get on!

to do
mission
tidy
hoover
s&S bathroom
make beds
unload washer done
sort dry washing done
wash up

hope everyone else is well

Morning dyls poor dd, and you. Hope your head teacher is reasonable, sometimes these things are unavoidable. Conjunctivitis is horrible. You can now buy the drops over the counter without prescription- if you are sure what it is....of course prescription will be free though!Just handy if you cant get Drs app (as we never seem able to when DC get conjunctiviitis)

right, well....schools off again due to ice aaarrrggghhh
DS has got as far as bus station and rang to say buses arent going as far as his school, so DH off to fetch him home...thankfully DH school not opening till 11. Girls all off too...

Have horrible cold too , felt terrible yesterday and did nothing...
so need to catch up a bit...but arguing already started from lounge...sigh...

Really need the spring now.....
silver white winters that melt into spring ....these are a few of my favourite things...** Ho hum!!

Right...main aims today:
Bake
Sort nice warm dinner
Keep peace between 6 DC!!
Start good thorough tidy of bedroom
Fill in GMC form

also I have sadly implementred a total TV ban until Friday due to total tip of girls room and their refusal to tidy (and because too much tv has been watched really)
May come to regret that b the end of the day LOL

Hopefully BBL

OverflowingMum · 13/01/2010 09:07

EV sympathies....need snow and ice to GO AWAY!!

greyskull morning

swanriver · 13/01/2010 09:29

Dylsmum - it sounds really difficult. I sympathise in some tiny part, since I have given up looking professional completely since my children seem to be serially ill with one thing or another and I thus cannot do various things I signed up to help with. But presumably the teacher HAS come across this attendance situation before when people have children to look after, and it will not automatically prejudice her? After all lots of teachers are women with small children! It would be mean of her not to give you a good reference, she must have seen candidates who weren't even good with children surely that is what counts. She is not Alan Sugar I hope...

Lovely soft powdery snow has fallen in the night, dcs have had a great tme in garden before breakfast, school is open -(tis not slippy)
3 dcs at school in excellent mood
managed to say sorry to dd's teacher who was at school gate

but recycling men are clearly not collecting second week in a row (overflowing yuk)

Need to
put ds1 back on school dinner roll - RUNG AND LEFT MESSAGE
clear breakfast
make beds
go to shops for fuses and catfood
piano practise - lesson this afternoon
jump on cardboard boxes in garden to flatten

Greyskull - you sound in good spirits

swanriver · 13/01/2010 09:35

Overflowing - TV may be banned, but have you tried RADIO, not sure if you can get FUN Radio in Rotherham (digital station)

they will settle down and be in a better mood in the end - mine were dancing yest -
they aren't meant to watch it till Thurs and Friday, tho' lots of times I've fallen off wagon on that rule
Problem is in our house the dcs just quarrel over what to watch so it doesn't now mean peace and quiet at all...

wendyhappysmile · 13/01/2010 09:52

OFM There is cbeebies radio too on DAB if you have one or via internet for littlies.

Morning all
Very tired today. couldn't sleep, went to bed late anyway and DH woke me up in the night and kept me up ( TMI). Like we are honeymooners or something. Hmm, I'm just too tired now!

Meant to be doing the Lidl shop but our road is treacherous, hoping it thaws for later, until then, staying inside!

To do
find baby sleeping bags in loft for a friend
address a letter (find address!) and write a letter to enclose in it!!
birthday cards to three people and find a gift for another and parcel up

Really hope recycling bin makes it to us, we missed last week too.

BBL

grouchyoscar · 13/01/2010 10:39

Morning All Dyls Poor dd, it's nasty is that. Dyls speaks wisely. Basically any head teache worth their salt will understand.

Radio 7 on DAB have quite a bit of kids stuff OFM. DH's solution to TV free time was to do a mix CD of punk and new wave classics for Ed. No wonder I have problems He trudges to school singing 'Looking through Gary Gilmour's eyes'

Hello to a busy Wendy

Done my morning routines. Walked carefully to the school and gingerly back again (the pavements are tretcherous) Made a couple of vital phone calls and, as litgtle needs doing 9can't be bothered to tackle big stuff TBH ) It's me and the lappy til Mr Postman delivers a vitally important package from Play.com

Once I get my noggin together I'll probably potter on with some chores

Virtual Hot Choc for all btw

grouchyoscar · 13/01/2010 10:41

Doh! forgot a Greyskull Grouchy wave

grouchyoscar · 13/01/2010 10:43

And one for swan who speaks wisely

EVye · 13/01/2010 10:57

Ok. I have tidied kitchen, made jelly with kids, watched tv and read books.

Rest of house a tip but kids craving attention...

Seabright · 13/01/2010 11:15

OK, so yesterday's job of the day (hoovering) got done, plus 1 load washing, 1 load ironing, cleaning out litter tray and made dinner.

Today's jobs

  • kitchen floor
  • wash a load of whites
swanriver · 13/01/2010 11:37

Piano practised for 30 mins need to do more it is difficult...

Recycling men on way accordng to dustbin men- just about to jump up and down on cardboard boxes when spied group of children from dcs's school walking towards us (some outing) had to run indoors in case they and teachers recognised me and saw how dreadfully dishevlled my front garden was

Wendy you made me laugh. Just when I think it is safe to go to bed...he wakes up

swanriver · 13/01/2010 11:39

Hi Seabright, hope you are havign a good day.
EV - good luck with the attentive children

EVye · 13/01/2010 11:40

DD1 doing artwork.
DD2 watching dvd.
I have hoovered downstairs and mopped floor. Looks like some of my laminate in the hall has warped where wet wellies have been left on it

dylsmum1998 · 13/01/2010 11:54

ofm i was lucky i got through to docs within 5 min sof them opening and got an appointment even bigger LOL
was very impressed when i got there and it was the yummy doc we saw
def conjunctivitis we have drops, got the first lot in, however am dubious if i will get near for the rest as she knows what to expect now!

thank you for your kind words re the head. it was the head i spoke to on the phone this morning and she seemed fine when i spoke to her, just me worryig esp. as competition to get on to the course is so fierce.

good ideas from you all re radio, going to see if its the dab ds set up on my radio for me, being in the flat means we cant get one of the ways but forget what he said, whether it was normal radio or dab we cant get....

oh and guess should do some flying too

good to hear you managed to get an appointment, the ointment should work quite quickly I think.

Need to get some stuff done so will go for now.

scattyspice · 13/01/2010 13:01

Hi all.

Sympathy for those with more snow disruption (looks nervously out of window). As dh said yesterday (not very helpfully) is is only mid january.

Dyl time off with poorly DC is the biggest problem of working. When mine were small i used holiday when they were ill , can't do that now they are at school (and I am termtime working), luckily they get far fewer bugs now.

Today:
school run
hoover
laundry
make sandwiches and get stuff ready
Beavers

wendyhappysmile · 13/01/2010 13:38

Hi all
Decided to stay at home today, our lane is very icy and can't be bothered slipping and sliding about in the car when I don't need to. Dentist tomorrow though so will need to venture out for that.
Haven't achieved much but have done most on my list - it was a small list!
Dyl Just show willing with lots of extras on placement school i.e. stay extra half hour to help out with a display, or planning etc and that will help. Otherwise sure the head will understand your situation!
swan I wasn't laughing when the alarm went off this morning although can't say I was complaining in the middle of the night
Seabright as we say on here, babysteps! You have the right idea with one job a day.
BBL

Wolfcub · 13/01/2010 14:10

afternoon all

our road is an ice rink. Had a lovely skate to the car this morning.

done
bed made before ds unmade it again
wet washing hung up
dry washing folded
already folded washing put away
wm unloaded reloaded and on
dw unloaded

That was it for me as we had to leave the house extra early to try and get to work at a reasonable hour.

dyls I agree that having to take time off when children are ill is a major dilemma when you are working especially when several illnessess happen in close proximity to each other. I agree with wendy that showing a bit of willing and being helpful will help to offset this and that a good employer should offer some flexibility and understanding to working parents. Is there any planning that you can do whilst you are at home with the children that you can take in with you when you go back?

grouchyoscar · 13/01/2010 14:51

Wolf I need severe help as I now feel Gary Lightbody is the answer to the UK's lack of songwriting ability I'm halfwayh through talking DH into a trip to the home gig in Norther Ireland ( lots)

Pottering involved laundry, take it down, get it dry, fold and put away, hang it u[, load td. load wm. Also a front room rug vac and get Ed's swim kit ready

Got topick him up in 60 so avoid Youtube

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 13/01/2010 14:51

haven't done anything yet today hmm still in my pj's, got to go and do school run soon so need to get dressed.
has been snowing all day so need to put on extra layers.

dylsmum1998 · 13/01/2010 15:42

have loaded and unloaded washer, hoovered and tidied but that is all.
have had lots of fun with dd, we have dne painting, drawing, reading stories, los of cuddles. now watching a bit of tv.

have given her 2 lots of eye drops today, nursery have said she can go in tomorrow but am in 2 minds whether to or not. she is well except the eye, but when i give her the drops she gets very upset and cries for a while after. so don't think it will be fair to the nursery staff to have to do this.

wendy that would be agood idea, need to think about how to incoprate into scheduled childcare etc. wwill have a think and see if i can sort something

wolf I am lucky that i don't have to do planning etc, I am a volunteer in the infant school i only go in one day a week around lectures (not a requirement of the course, just thought it would be beneficial to me) to gain experience and hopefully give me an edge in getting onto the pgce course in sept.

powerofgreyskull pj down sounds very good to me- maybe sunday if i am lucky
