morning Scatty thanks for thread

my ds school is closed today due to snow, erm its a dusting . so i can't go into my placement today
after i chased both dc out of bed as we had overlaid

snow is still falling, am going to do my morning routine and see if we have enough to go out and play in

wendyhappysmile · 06/01/2010 09:08

morning
Thanks for thread Scatty hope you are safely at home or work!

No more snow here but still thick. School closed again. Think we'll go round to Ds's best friend (and his mum is my bf too!) house for snow frolics.

Greyskull
here is recipe for banana cake. I make in loaf tin and it is very moist. Can be eaten with butter etc but really it is cake.
2 or 3 v ripe bananas mashed with 2 tsp lemon juice
100g butter/marg
100g caster sugar
2 beaten eggs
225g SR flour

Cream fat and sugar then beat in eggs and then bananas, fold in flour. Will look lumpy. Turn into a greased 15x20 cm square tin or a 2lb loaf tin (I use those loaf tin liners, so much easier). Bake at 180 fan or 200 normal oven, gas mark 6 for 40 - 45 minutes. Cool on a wire rack. Nice if iced with lemon juice icing too.

Right, need to get dressed and my hair is sticking up all over the place.
make tea - minestrone soup
get stuff ready i.e. change of clothes to go out
Washing
Iron curtains for DD and put up
Tidy up upstairs
sort out food for lunch to take to friend's house

x posts Hi simply

swanriver · 06/01/2010 09:25

It snowed, and it's still falling, but school opened
which we (kids and I) hoped it wouldn't boo hoo as kids will be locked in their classrooms all day, but I think management got a lot of flak for closing it last year and it is slushy rather than icy....
anyway there are lots of things to get done without my little helpers

kitchen smells terribly of cat, and is a complete mess
but RECYCLING AND RUBBISH DONE for kerbside coll.
someone has just phoned up offering me their child to play, don't know if I can face it..
need coffee coffee coffee

Greyskull - I have a recipe for Banana Bread
which is 7oz selfraising, 3oz but, 6oz sugar, 2 eggs, and Ilb of bananas mashed, and 4oz nuts and 1/4 tsp bicarb. Teabread type.

now need to press on with Ds's topic.

swanriver · 06/01/2010 09:28

Hi Simply - how are Conditions in Wales?

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 06/01/2010 09:30

Argh... DS2 keeps picking his nose and making it bleed!
he wedges his finger so far up we have just had another one, and his bedding is in the wash from him doing it last night as well..

I just hope he learns not to pick his nose soon

Starbear · 06/01/2010 09:42

Morning all Thanks Scatty for the thread. Just an inch of snow here & very wet so not much fun just cold.
Tort I love Dawlish Warren, I have been there many times with friends, nephews and now Dh & Ds, when Ds was a baby. Beats Croyde N.Devon every time (DH's Fav place!)
Totally disorganised yesterday hope to make it up today.
But I did make Ds a hot packed lunch Stir-fry. He'll tell me later if it worked! Too fussy for everyday! So much so I forgot his book bag
Ignore the following just for me
I did Take down the decs Yippe & in loft
Ds helped me hoover the front room & get the house back into some sort of order.
Sewed up Ds's trousers
Made Stir fry for dinner & ds's lunch
Back in a mo with a list.

swanriver · 06/01/2010 09:54

Right, we are setting off to someone's house to learn how to play the Wii before I attempt to set ours up on Sat. Long walk for ds good.
Then the other, offered, child is coming to play this afternoon - his school doesn't start till 12th
kitchen abandoned

need to buy washing powder
and post 2 more letters on way
also what's for dinner? - spinach and ricotta cannelloni - make later

scattyspice · 06/01/2010 09:59

Back from school. School is open at the moment. Masses of snow though, dd stepped off the curb into snow up to her thighs . Luckily I had a change of tights when we got to school. I called in work, the roads are in chaos, cars sliding backwards down the hill from the hospital and lots of accidents. Luckily the other 2 staff on my team walk to work so they are in and I can take the day off . Am going to trudge to the shops for food now.

greyskull my ds gets lots of nosebleeds too (usually just as we are leaving the house to go to school).

Dyl, swan funny how some schools close and others don't. Our school never closes for the snow and lets the kids out to play in it.

star impressed at the hot lunches. Mine get a ham sandwich.

simply did think your shower took a long time .

wendy have fun.

Ds's room needs a good clear out and spring clean but I can't go to the dump or charity shop so will hold fire. he says he'll have less toys if friends give money instead to polar Bears love him.

TeaMonster · 06/01/2010 11:00

Ladies

Laptop has died. Really no joke - I feel lost

School closed, was yesterday too, we had to dig out to get the back door open, will try and take pic later.

I had to get the car dug out yesterday by two very nice nrighbours when I got stuck

No snow 12 miles away at mums, she thinks I am avoiding her and het work she wants me to do

DH got to work only to get work and turn round, as still snowing madly here.

me and the boys off out to a friends for coffee and company.

grouchyoscar · 06/01/2010 12:32

Hello ALL and to TEA Dead laptops are so soul destroying.

Ed's school is shut again. I'm trying to encourage him to do educational stuff but, I'm failing

I've taken the decs down, put the tree outside and Christmas is now over

The lad from over the road is here and PS3 is dominating. At least I'm not listening to Snow Patrol as it's really playing with my head. I'll be a nervous wreak if I continue

Starbear · 06/01/2010 12:48

Afternoon All Grouchy Chill, I would be the same, I thought I would encourage Little Bear to do stuff but its hard work. Tea I don't have a lap top. If you were going to buy a new one which would you get, that the kids can use too? I know you're good at techy stuff. Looking forward to the pics. You've reminded me must recharge camera.
Right back had lunch & now for a cooking frenzy before picking up Little Bear.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 06/01/2010 12:54

Afternoon all

We have snow has been snowing for the last hour and it started to settle immediately

DS1 at school, DS2 watching Cbeebies

just put away all the ironing, and the last few Christmas Decorations.

Need to dig out my walking boots, there is no way I am going to try to drive to pick up DS1 this afternoon, going to use the buggy for DS2 for the first time in ages, think it will be easier than worrying about him slipping over.
Tea we had a couple of weeks without internet last year, it was a nightmare.. felt like cold turkey from my internet addiction
grouchy I am with starbear, I wouldn't even try with the educational stuff, go with the path of least resistence!

swanriver · 06/01/2010 13:18

we've been for a long walk in snow to see friend and her Wii, but very easy as not in the slightest bit slippy just mushy and crispy
I am now enjoying a delicious plate of brussel sprouts with soy sauce and a tuna sandwich - nothing like cold air to make you feel ravenous
ds1 is reading Asterix - after lunch we are doing educational stuff - resistance is futile (in your words, or a version of, TM)

good luck with walk to school Greyskull, hope the head feels better too,
Starbear - now pumpkin stew to you may be old hat but HOW do you make it? Like ratouille?
Grouchy - enjoy a cosy afternoon
TM - are you very high up to get the depths of snow?
Scatty - your dcs' school have the right idea, but maybe it is just that Northumberland mums know how to dress their kids to play out. Mine did not go to school in wellies; I can see that x 400 our school might have a lot of sneezlers if they let htem out

bb when done something housey

grouchyoscar · 06/01/2010 13:29

Swan Star and Skull I only want him to use his imagination and write about snow (what does a snowflake think? etc) but no, it's 'little big planet' all the way I have given up TBH

Makingchanges · 06/01/2010 13:37

Afternoon all

DH working from home today as can't get to work so I have had to hand over the internet. Grr

Had to walk to the shops to get some fresh bread etc - You'd think it was christmas again, long queues and no bread or milk. Its just sonow but caused panic round here. The snow was well up my wellies and I have no chance of moving my car without the add of a spade so can't believe that DD's school is still open. Luckily she doesn't go on Wednesdays. Good news though that my schools that I volunteer in and college are all closed so a day at home again for me. And as I look out of the window its snowing hard again.

Today I'm still writing my assignment, clearing out my fridge and catching up on my washing. Can't do much else as have to be quiet for DH and amuse DD. Might send them out for more snowman building later as DD loved that last night, although her socks were soaking from the snow going over the tops of her wellies.

Hope everyone is surving the snow if you have it. Had a quick flick through the thread, loads of yummy meals yumyum

swanriver · 06/01/2010 13:52

I am making animal noises and mechanical noises at moment so that ds1 can categorize them into pleasant and unpleasant for science topic.
well it all depends if you are asleep at the time really...

"write about snow" - you must be kidding Grouchy, my ds would never in a thousand years do that and he's about 3 years older [shock} Make a silly song about it, or do a snow drama yes or even in ds2's case build a snow plough out of lego, or put a snowball in the fridge [last educational resort] DO NOT FEEL BAD.

Simply · 06/01/2010 14:28

Good afternoon all.

swan It's tricky to drive on any roads other than main roads in my part of mid Wales. The schools are closed which the kids are very pleased about. Down South it is pretty tricky too, I understand.

scatty

Okay. I've done quite a bit today but I need to keep going. I took down the Christmas decorations yesterday and could put them back up in the attic rather than just dumping them in the spare room, I guess. Or I can keep doing a bit here and a bit there. It probably suits my butterfly mind to do bits and bobs!

Starbear · 06/01/2010 15:09

very quick cuppa before getting Little bear from school. I started cooking at 1pm and have just finished must figure out quick health meals. Well Pumpkin is going to last us a few days & a few batches of chilli chilli will be frozen. I might post my pumpkin soup recipe (it's really Butternut squash as its easy to buy around here) I bet you'll be shocked at the ingredients.
W/M in dryer
Bleach down loo
Get supplies Done
Make Chilli & Pumpkin Stew done
re load W/Mdone
Clean bathroom
Hoover upstairs
re do timetable for back of front door

swanriver · 06/01/2010 15:54

How do you make the pumpkin stew Starbear

Visitor making a snowman outside, my dcs are now watching telly well ds2 is helping with snowman
it's a whiteout here now
and school closed tomorrow officially

but have to go to hosp with ds1 sod's law, wonder if should try and cancel now or if I'll ever get another appt with consltnt? We only see him once a month at moment.
will ring Hosp now to assess.

scattyspice · 06/01/2010 15:56

Phew star cooking up a storm!

Just back from dragging DC home from school on a sledge!
