wendyhappysmile · 05/01/2010 09:46

thanks for thread dyls Nice to see you back.
Morning swan
No school today for DS. DD has first gymnastics class at 1am but don't know what I will do with DS! Hmm, not sure what to do about that yet.
DH not too well but gone to work, walking.
Quite a bit of snow here and still going. Sure it is clear on main roads but it takes so long to get the car cleared, doesn't it!
Might go get showered (am dressed) as I feel half asleep and could do with washing my hair. Stayed up til midnight reading last night. have slipped into old habits again, need to get to bed earlier!
To do
wash curtains for DD (charity shop find)
tidying
craft with DS - keep them busy
Tea loaf
banana cake
make lunch and tea
gymnastics?
post office?

That's all really BBL

Morning all Thank you for the thread dyls Swan Freezing here & the house not so warm. In a way the cold weather has done us good. We plan to live in this house forever so I'm going to look into insulating it better. DH has lived here 22 years and never tackled this problem!
Ds's first day at school & things not as well organised as the previous school (mainly I suppose because we have joined in January) No info re school dinners so I now need to make one and dash back to school with it. Thank God I took the week off to get us into the swing.
No major list today as I don't think I'll have the time.
So
packed lunch
School dinner order form in & paid for
Phone Brother to find his new address so he can be the other next of kin
Phone find and ask her if she can be the 3rd contact
Make soup
Start cleaning Ds room (on wish list I think)
Put Decorations away (still not done from yesterday.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 05/01/2010 10:43

morning all

star that is the most fab thing about us changing the insulation in this house,, We have noticed a clear difference in both the summer (now not overheating) and in the winter (still cold but can't see our breath anymore)

wendy would you mind sharing your banana loaf recipe... I have been using the same one for ages and I am not totally happy with it... seems too heavy.

swan ENVELOPES!

Dlys hpe you got to school on time.

No school here today, another teacher training day so back tomorrow.

GOT TO break the back of the ironing again today, skipped a day yesterday and now will have another hour or so to do
kitchen
utility
sitting room
all need blitzing

Speech therapy for DS1 at 3.30pm so we will have to leave by 3pm.. until then we have no fixed plans.

bbl

Starbear · 05/01/2010 10:48

greyskull I need more info please. What did you do?
help Anyone Does anyone do hot pack lunches and if so what do you do?

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 05/01/2010 10:55

rolls and rolls of stuff in the loft
double glazing (took ages to find because we wanted to replace the sash with sash sadly had to compromise and still sash but PVC )
can't have cavity wall insulation as it is a timber frame house

bought a big curtain for behind the new double glazed door made sure all the curtains in the house had an insulating liner.

DH did other things with the pipes, (putting foam stuff round them to keep the heat in them) he says that has saved us money but not necessarily warmed up the house.

HTH

swanriver · 05/01/2010 10:59

ENVELOPES - DONE (that has taken me 2 hours, what with finding addresses from dh (who doesn't know his parents' zip code in Italy had to google it) forcing ds to write another letter and then losing the stamps/address book/large envelopes you name it
updated address book - DONE
dw unloaded and washing up DONE
recycling rationalzed
food recycling DONE
large batch of lentil soup for freezer SIMMMERING

now walk

swanriver · 05/01/2010 11:05

Our loft is so full of stuff I think it counts as insulating material

Very thick lined curtains will save £££££ - we compromised on curtains in playroom and children's bedrooms and it really was a mistake (may yet buy some fluffy liners if I get round to it)
make one room in house lovely and cosy so that you don't need rest to be so warm (thermostatic valves on rads so can adjust)
wool blanket under your sheet makes beds v. cosy
I refuse to get rid of our draughty wooden sashes. They are lovely, and stop condensation and keep us healthy (I hope) But you can feel the cold air around them - so curtains curtains curtains

Tortoiselookingforwardto2010 · 05/01/2010 11:30

Morning all.

Most of the decs are down. Just the tree to do in a mo. Plus some in Dc's bedrooms.

Desperatly need to hoover once everything is down.

Feeling a bit at the moment. I was watching a mid sleeper bed on Ebay for DD2. Emailed them bout delivery as they said on listing it would be possible now they have it listed as SOLD! If i had known they would sell off Ebay i would have offered a BIN price. Very hard to find someone who can deliver. Glad i didn't tell DD2 about it as she would be very disappointed now.

Hope we get snow today. It is forecast to finally reach us today/tonight. Very cold out there.

Makingchanges · 05/01/2010 12:26

Afternoon all.

Feeling a little fed up with myself this morning as spent all morning keeping an eye on school closures as we have had a lot of snow from 6am ish - must have got at least 3 inches by mid-morning. I was supposed to be in school, rang and told them I wouldn't be in and now they have closed school anyway but DD's nursery is still open, despite all the buses being taken off and the majority of schools being closed. I've rang and told them I'm not taking her in either, I'll never get her to walk there and shes only due in for a couple of hours anyway. So feel I've wasted my morning now.

Better see if I can get some jobs done. Have got some chicken out of freezer cos i'm not going out in this.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 05/01/2010 12:28

afternoon all,
boys have watched starwars
I have done loads of ironing.

just going to do lunch then will tackle the christmas decorations.

Tortoiselookingforwardto2010 · 05/01/2010 12:46

Decs all down, packed up and put away in the loft! Hope i haven't missed any. Normally do!

Have also booked a weeks holiday for April during Easter hols. Will be DS1's 13th Birthday while we are away. Just need to think of a way to take at least one present and make the day special.

scattyspice · 05/01/2010 12:50

Hi all. Lots more snow here too. Our school never closes (suburbia).

star hope ds likes his new school. I'd never attempt a hot packed lunch .

dyl my 2 are resisting bedtime too also very tired.

Greyskull we took our decs down yesterday, house looks bare .

Today:
school pick up
feed dc
dc to gymnastics
buy food
laundry

wendyhappysmile · 05/01/2010 13:03

Spent an hour outside with DC helping DS's teacher out of our lane in her car with another neighbour! fun really.

Greyskull my banana cake is more of a cake than a loaf, although I often make it in a loaf tin. I will put the recipe on later.
New tea loaf recipe off MN recipe page very simple and very nice. DS enjoyed making it.
1 cup dried fruit any variety and 1 cup brown sugar in a bowl and leave for 12 hours with 1 cup black tea. Add 2 cups SR flour and 1 egg. Mix and bake in loaf tin at 150 for 1 - 1.5 hours. Yummy!

Right off to see what's occurin'!

Tortoiselookingforwardto2010 · 05/01/2010 13:07

It's snowing! >

And i found a £40 discount code for Park holidays, phoned up and they have taken the £40 off my booking. Even better.

Starbear · 05/01/2010 13:16

Lunch break Greyskull Pondering our cold situation while shopping. We put the boiler and storage tank in the loft as we had no space downstairs Now I think this was a mistake as there is never any frost or snow on our roof!! DH says that the roof is insulated but I don't think enough. Too expensive now to move any of it downstairs! SwanLoft also full of stuff!!
We have uPVC sash type windows DH loves them as he has no time for maintenance. We have a heavy curtain on front door as it's old and gappy.
Scatty Hot packed lunch maybe a one off!!!!
MC Feel the same way wasted the day going backwards & forwards (& MN )
Must take decs down at least and make chilli gone barmy for us & Ds packed lunch.
Also going to try Pumpkin & veg soup/stew.
No snow here yet! Just grey & cold
See ya later

Wolfcub · 05/01/2010 13:33

afteroon all

I managed to get in to work today but DP didn't - different methods of transport to blame, for once the crappy local train service won out!

Food shopped and mealplanned for week

broccoli and anchovy pasta
thai green chicken curry with rice
risotto with mushrooms
baked potatoes with raw veg and tuna mayo - tonight
lentil soup and cream cheese sandwiches for me and ds for a few lunches
pork and apricot hotpot with pots
leek and ham stuffed pancakes
and there is still a pumpkin in fridge from Xmas so need to do something withthat - soup, curry, sage risotto? who knows..

well done on holiday planning Tort and decs, mine are still up (I don't mind - they are so cheering 6th is the last day.
