how many clothes do you own

addictedtolatte · 03/01/2010 13:00

just asking out of curiousity how much storage space you take up with your clothes, shoes and coats. i cant decide if i need to get rid of some of mine. i live a flat with very limited space and wondered if my storage is excessive. i use 1 double wardrobe 1 single wardrobe and 6 drawers. also 5 large plastic boxes for shoes. is this normal or am i a bit obsessive?

Chest of drawers (1 big drawer and 1 small drawer I use, rest for DH):
three pairs of jeans
a cardigan
2 jumpers
about 5 t-shirts/tops
a dress
a shrug
underwear
socks

Cabinet in hall:
2 pairs of shoes

Hanging up in hall:
mac
winter coat

I have one handbag that I use.

MintyCandyCane · 03/01/2010 13:10

Hardly any, I have two drawers of clothing and one pair of shoes at the moment but I have gone a bit far the other way I think

addictedtolatte · 03/01/2010 13:14

Oh Dear, I have triple wardrobe and double wardrobe, also two chest of drawers with 4 drawers, also 4 drawers under the bed...I think I have far too many shoes and cloths lol

BlackYellowRed · 03/01/2010 13:39

I think part of my lack of clothes is to do with not following fashion and wearing whatever I do own to death. I make sure they are all good quality and no matter what I pull out of the drawer, it will go together. It's all stuff I adore and fits well.

BlackYellowRed · 03/01/2010 13:40

The other part being no money to buy lots

thelunar66 · 03/01/2010 13:44

OOh... come over to Style threads... we are all trying hard to not buy any new clothes for a YEAR!

For the record...

1 double wardrobe
1 single wardrobe
one chest of drawers (6 drawers)
2 blanket boxes full of shoes and handbangs
a long Ikea coatrack in spare room full of coats/jackets/evening dresses

addictedtolatte · 03/01/2010 13:57

BlackYellowRed that is exactly what am trying to do. most of my clothes are poor quality so never get worn anyway i usually end up sifted through all the rubbish stuff to get to the good fitting stuff. as am getting older i realise quality is better than quantity

No idea. A wardrobe full .

about 10 skirts, about 10 pairs of trousers, maybe 20 tops, no dresses - they don't suit me. four or five pairs of shoes, 2 handbags.

Not a lot really.

glasgal · 03/01/2010 14:26

loads of clothes but hardly any fit.

I've gained/lost/gained/lost stones of weight over the years so have clothes from sizes 8-20, and at least 15 bra sizes.

I have an enormous suitcase, black bin bag and 2 or 3 boxes of stuff that doesn't fit and a v full rail, 4 shelves and 5 small drawers of stuff that fits or nearly fits.

I keep the old stuff because I cant afford to buy a whole new wardrobe everytime my weight changes.

I loathe fashion and only go clothes shopping when things fall apart/rip etc.

JaneiteIsTrite · 03/01/2010 14:31

One clothes rail, two drawers and a bit of dp's cupboard. They are rammed though. I cull regularly and sort it out every couple of months so it's all visible etc.

Flamesparrow · 03/01/2010 14:31

far too many.

mainly too small jeans

FlightAttendant · 03/01/2010 14:35

I have a few things I don't ever wear, am waiting for my life to change, then I might use them...

Someone please highlight the fallacy in that statement, I am too confused already

nannyl · 03/01/2010 18:55

1 for trousers
1 for skirts & PJ's

Timely thread. Clothes have completely taken over our house and DH is currently bringing down every item of clothing, towels, linen etc that we own to dump in the middle of the floor so that we can decide what is to be dumped/washed/given away/put away properly. Our clothes are completely covering the living room and stacked high

Harriedandflustered · 03/01/2010 19:05

I have a big chest of drawers - with around 8 drawers for underwear and tops and sports stuff and scarves.

Then I have a huge wardrobe in the spare room which houses summer clothes, and a huge wardrobe in my bedroom that houses winter clothes. I'm glad I don't have any more seasons because I don't have any more wardrobes (currently, at least).

BrokenArm · 03/01/2010 19:06

I reckon that I have too many clothes. I have the equivalent of about one large double wardrobe full of clothes, 2 drawer fulls of small stuff, and maybe ~22 prs of shoes (including utility shoes like wellies and slippers). Several coats & fleeces (all years old now).

TLESinChristmasStockings · 03/01/2010 19:24

I am so glad I am not alone in having too many clothes...Today DP I decided to sort out the suitcases, bags and storage boxes kept in the back room.

I have filled up 3 bags with rubbish, 2 for charity/freegle, and 6 of good stuff. I am only half way through as well. Problem is I cannot put them in the wardrobe as it is full and so DP I have decided its time to sort them out sob sob

satc2bringiton · 03/01/2010 19:29

I only have a normal sized wardrobe and then 2 drawers for underwear and nightwear.

I don't have loads of clothes, as I tend to wear them out then throw them out. Had a small clearout today actually.

Harriedandflustered · 03/01/2010 19:46

Shoes

Yes I have a bit of a problem with shoes

Part of it is that shoes don't tend to wear out

But mostly it is because I am a bit shoeish

I am too scared to count the number of pairs

TeaOneSugar · 05/01/2010 22:18

A single wardrobe, a one small drawer, one larger draw.

DH has a double wardrobe, one small drawer and one larger draw. He's also got double the coats and shoes.

I am losing weight though and I've been good at clearing out as I go down the sizes, I intend to stock up again in due course.

looselyspeaking · 05/01/2010 22:59

I was trying to work this out the other day as I bagged up another bag for the charity shop. Might as well list it here as anywhere else!

I have:
2 pairs of jeans (constantly alternating in the wash)
2 skirts (rather nice Hobbes ones but I only wear skirts about 3 times a year!)
2 casual jersey black trousers (rather faded)
1 pair of linen cropped trousers
3 shirts/blouses
3 long sleeved cotton t-shirts/turtle necks
4 fleeces
4 cardigans/jumpers
1 smart jacket (not worn for 3 years)
1 raincoat
1 long coat
1 mahoosive black parka
1 pair of walking boots (10 years old)
2 pairs of trainers
1 pair of summer shoes/sandals
1 pair of chelsea boots
1 pair of long boots (7 years old)

There is a bag in the garage that is home to some "outdoor" wear from the days when we used to camp in all weathers but I don't count that because I haven't worn any of it for at least 6 years!

I currently house all of my clothes and all of my partner's clothes in 3 wardrobe removal cartons (we've moved around a lot in the past 12 months and don't own a wardrobe for ourselves) and one chest of drawers with 6 rather shallow drawers.

Now I wouldn't mind if all the above clothes worked like one of those Gok Kwan capsule wardrobes but they don't. A lot of it's shagged out and rather embarassing.

However I do intend to lose an additional 2 stone by June (have lost a stone already) so look forward to throwing a few more things away and maybe getting myself a halfway decent wardrobe.

JaynieB · 05/01/2010 23:05

I share a triple wardrobe and one chest of drawers with DP ...most of my clothes I've had for years and are sad old things that need replacing..but I keep hoping I might go down a dress size and hate clothes shopping.

Dawnybabe · 05/01/2010 23:12

Two wardrobes, a three-drawer chest, an airing cupboard shelf and loads of boxes of old stuff in the attic. Oh and cupboard under stairs filled with coats.

DP has done the usual thing while he's been home over christmas and tidied the cupboards out so now we have nice tidy cupboards and a house covered in clothes/sheets/baby clothes/rubbish...

He's off to work tomorrow and someone's coming to view the house at half five.

So I'll tidy everything up then, shall I? Again.

(sorry, got side-tracked)
