just asking out of curiousity how much storage space you take up with your clothes, shoes and coats. i cant decide if i need to get rid of some of mine. i live a flat with very limited space and wondered if my storage is excessive. i use 1 double wardrobe 1 single wardrobe and 6 drawers. also 5 large plastic boxes for shoes. is this normal or am i a bit obsessive?

Oh yeah... half my clothes, it has to be said, are too small now (post-babies) or are maternity wear. I just don't have time to put them on ebay.

4 hanging rails
3 chests of drawers
86 pairs of shoes
25 handbags

I have just thrown out 12 black bags of clothes that didn't fit - ten years worth.

I really think that childbearing-age women have a problem in this respect.

When you start thinking about or having kids, your whole life changes...work is put on a back burner for many, you don't know what you will be doing in a year or two or three...you have to keep stuff that will fit your post pregnant AND pregnant body, until you decide definitely not to have any more...you just have so many vairables that to continually chuck out things you're not using NOW would be wasteful and pointless.

Saving as much as you can makes sense if you have the storage space, because you are just in a state of continual flux in one way or another.

I still have pre pregnant stuff, maternity stuff, work type stuff and all the rest of it, because things just are not settled. One day hopefully it will all settle down and I'll be able to decide what is needed and what isn't - but when work/bodies/children and so on are all up in the air, I just keep everything.

As for what I have right now...
One suitcase of maternity stuff plus a few old work things.

One double wardrobe rail of skirts, jeans, trousers, dresses, both summer and winter including a few coats.

a shelf full of jumpers and cardis most of which I don't wear any more.

Several coats

about 8 pairs of shoes? Same number of boots, but feet don't change much so I keep everything in case! and about 10 different bags maybe.

FlightAttendant · 06/01/2010 10:02

Oh and one chest of drawers for knickers, socks, tights, t shirts and jamas.

TillyMintSpy · 06/01/2010 10:08

One double wardrobe

5 drawers and a blanket box

Plus 2 boxes and numerous coats dotted around the house.

I need another wardrobe, but there is no space for one

littlerach · 06/01/2010 10:15

Double wardrobe
3 drawers
Another 3 drawers of underwear, socks, tights, scarves etc
2 drawstring bags of pashminas, more scarves, more tights
Small wardrobe in spare room with coats and "nice" dresses in
another 3 drawers in spare room with "seasonal" clothes in
Underbed box of handbags and purses
About 30 pairs of shoes and boots
4 coats in utility room
Oh and 5 more handbags dotted around

Didn't think I had much.

But, it all fits me, Ilike it all, and with the exception of the "nice" dresses I wear most of it regularly, kind of.

I have half a double wardrobe with 1 shelf above for Jumpers
1 Undies drawer (not full)
1 PJ's and Vest tops drawer (full)

Had a huge clearout last year and am determined not to go back to the days of looking at a mountain of clothes and thinking I have nothing to wear

EldonAve · 06/01/2010 10:19

chest of drawers
small amount of hanging space
plus a box of pre preg clothes

I have loads of shoes that I no longer wear but if I start working again I will need them
