There were six of them and I have no idea what they are! They also came from behind a HUGE cupboard so am a bit nervous of what to do.

The look like a cross between a silverfish and an earwig. No funny c at the end like an earwig and dark brown so not a silverfish. They also look a bit like ladybird larvae, but are quick movers with lots of legs...

EffiePerine · 17/12/2009 16:38

wannaBe · 17/12/2009 16:39

120cmsOfSnow · 17/12/2009 17:06

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 17/12/2009 20:24

If it has those pincer things on the end of it, I'd say it's an earwig.

I hate earwigs

LittlewhiskersCat · 17/12/2009 20:25

I think you could mean carpet beetle larvae
here

wideratthehips · 17/12/2009 20:28

oh just clicked on the link and did all sorts of shuddering bleurghs....poor you!

120cmsOfSnow · 17/12/2009 20:32

wider. They aren't that large! Tree its not an earwig! LWC its almost like that without a hairy bum. Maybe a different sort of carpet beetle as we have had some here and they are speckly, not shiny and brown like your piccie. . Still very yuk though!

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 17/12/2009 20:36

Oh God. How awful. Waaaaaay outside my comfort zone I'm afraid. Shiny brown and/or speckly is where I bow out.

Throw various chemicals in cupboard and make dh deal with it

kinnies · 17/12/2009 20:36

RUN!

GRAB YOUR CHILDERN AND RUN!!!!!!!!!!!

JoeJoe1977 · 17/12/2009 20:36

DH says it is definately a caterpillar, not sure what he knows though! Looks like a moth caterpillar rather than a butterfly one though. Put it in a tank with some leaves and see if it wraps itself up in a cocoon.

kinnies · 17/12/2009 20:39

Yeah cocoon or EATS YOU....

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 17/12/2009 20:45

If I ever found anything in my house wrapped in a cocoon, I would become part of nuclear arms race.

It all stems from backpacking in Peru and going to the loo is a very cheap hostel in the dark.

I learnt to ALWAYS put the light on and give the critters 30 seconds to hide. Noone wants to see that on their toothbrush.

120cmsOfSnow · 17/12/2009 20:57

tree you and kinnies have me sniggering into my wine . Whatever you do, don't visit the pest control canada site. They have it all on there! yeeuch. Better stop reading it now or I won't be able to eat my supper!

OP posts:
tackyChristmastreedelivery · 17/12/2009 21:21

I had to look. It was like crash tv, just had too.

Am alarmed by orb web weaving spiders, and completely overwhelmed by the beetle the size of a finger.

And the spider body would have me leaving for colder climates. Or looking on ebay for nuclear weapons of mass insect destruction.

Dear Lord.

120cmsOfSnow · 17/12/2009 21:37

fantastic. thanks. am going to have go and have a look now, aren't I?
