There were six of them and I have no idea what they are! They also came from behind a HUGE cupboard so am a bit nervous of what to do.

The look like a cross between a silverfish and an earwig. No funny c at the end like an earwig and dark brown so not a silverfish. They also look a bit like ladybird larvae, but are quick movers with lots of legs...

Out of interest, following the Canada pest control site, why would anyone want to follow a link to find more examples of orb spiders? Why, why in the name of God, why?

GooberChev · 17/12/2009 22:09

As long as it's not a 'pedey-file.

NotanOtter · 17/12/2009 22:12

the house centipede is freeeeeaaaaaky

hackneyzoowithbellson · 17/12/2009 22:14

Fashion them a little hutch/run affair, perhaps using some old matchboxes, wrap it up nicely and....hey presto..you have the DCs' christmas gifts sorted. [hgrin]

catbus · 17/12/2009 22:14

Goober; I just nearly wet myself thanks. No, indeed, not THAT kinda 'pede..

GooberChev · 17/12/2009 22:17

Sorry. Can't stop biscuiting.

Speckledeggy · 17/12/2009 22:31

Ooh yuck!

I don't cope very well with bugs. Get the pest people in...just in case!

chegirlwithbellson · 17/12/2009 22:36

They are hidious carpet beetle lava. Had millions of them in my council flat. They eat through everything if you have enough of them.

At one point if I walked into my kitchen and night and turned the lights on I could hear the scurrying

Urrrgggghh.

Do you have pets? They love dog/cat food. I am assuming you have children so they probably drop bits of food around (I know mine do).

Not that I am trying to infer you are a dirty old mank or anything!

They are harmless BTW.

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 17/12/2009 22:39

Good grief.

The cat gets fed outside form this day forth.

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 17/12/2009 22:40

AT the first sound of scurrying the children do too.

chegirlwithbellson · 17/12/2009 22:54

@ Tacky.

I used to find the little crackly bodies behind the wardrobe and bookcases.

If the kids dropped a biscuit I would find it later with all horrible tunnels eaten through it.

I lived in a hovel of my own making.

Che that sounds like fun! Hope it doesn't come to that just yet...

Its not a 'classic' carpet beetle as I've had those and it hasn't got a little stripe on its tummy nor is it that hairy. I've had a run in with those house centipedes whilst 'holidaying' in France. BF in the middle of the night was hideous. Had to put the light on as it was so dark to get DD out of her cot, then watch those things crawling in and out of the cracks in the wall. Needless to say I got very little sleep. These things are puppies by comparison.
