morning all.....it's the weekend!

OP posts:
OverflowingFestiveMum · 21/11/2009 09:16

so today has not started well
absolute chaos in the house...nephews tearing round the place, whipping my dc into similar state of madness....sofar theyhavebeen into EVERY room, pulled out everything...toys,etc everywhere...of...never seen such chaos...
SIL of course still in bed..

Unfortunately last night's wine induced mellowness has given way to my usuall post wine irritability...so not coping well with things...
Also no milk left...'cause SIL said she would pick some up when out yesterday (after her boys drank half a cow LOL) but then didnt't )Socant have my muesli[grumpy sulky emoticon]...
had vague moments of sleep on cramped up air bed in ds1 room...[exhausted I need more coffee emoticon]

on the positive side dd4 seems totally recovered...

off to school christmas fair this afternoon...

have masses of washing to do and sort...
need to make 2 giant cottage pies for tea...

Think I need to practice being more assertive today...I'm rubbish at that, always bend over backwards to accomodate other people ,even when they are totally taking the p*ss and dont deserve to be accomodated....

so today..I am going to stick up for myself....and remind myself that this is MY home....LOL and if SIL doesn't like it she doesn't have to come again...(here's hoping hehehe... )

right...might have to venture out of hiding in in DS1's room....then again might not

repeats many time..."Not Long Till Tuesday".....

OP posts:
swanriver · 21/11/2009 09:38

But it does sound quite fun in your house OFM - really...I think your guests are clearly enjoying themselves too much...and will definitely come again.
How is your MIL?

TeaMonster · 21/11/2009 11:39

Oh my I spat my tea at the screen reading the title, I gathered things are not going well.

It is your home, you need to reasert yourself on it. I would ber furious at SIl being in bed. Good lord woman - I would have sent all the children in to her

MadDads birthday today, so we let him have a lie in and woke him with homemade cards and a starbar and bag of malteasers wrapped up as his pressie!!!

He got £20 of his mum and dad, so we are popping out after football practive and I am going to get some ribbon I need to finnish a craft project and he will get himself a little something, although he is not sure what.

I am royally pissed at my mother who has forgotted yet again She always rememebrs SIL's but not MadDads

Starbear · 21/11/2009 11:55

Morning ALL OFM My Ds would love that chaos. What you could do tomorrow or next time they come over. Tell your SIL that you've taken up running, As you are going out the door say 'as your happy to stay indoor in the morning you can mind the kids' smile and leave. Have some money for a paper & coffee & enjoy your morning down the road Do not tell her in advance as she try and join you once the pattern is set it should work.
I go and visit a friend who has a chaos house she stays in bed & I give breakfast to the kids then take her dog out for a walk. Kids then pick which option to go for. Bertie the dog just loves me.
My hair now has no grey, sis brought a Cava, Mum's pie was delicious DH very happy as he got an early night too
Back in a mo with a list.

Simply · 21/11/2009 11:59

Hello to all.

Am sorely tempted to encourage you into naughtiness Overflowing but I'm going to be good instead! If I was to be naughty I'd start humming or singing quietly along to every song I knew belonging to a singer/group I knew SIL detested. Even better if it can be something wacky i.e. religious (if you're not), heavy metal (if you're the complete opposite), or Barry M or Cliff R or Enya or anything that would have her reaching for the gin in no time!

swan and Tea Have a good day!

Well, I'm still sneezing so I'm not going to go swimming or try to have my hair cut today. I can get away with wearing my dress from Sept to the meet up. It's a choice between that, a pair of black trousers with a nice top or a ridiculously short black skirt which I last wore about 10 years ago!

Busy day here. Dh has gone to town and has to do some work stuff today, too. Ds has yet another music concert today but has a lift organised for there and back so that's okay. Dd has work later and I'll need to take her there.

To do:-
~ carry on with the ironing. I did do lots last night but there was a week's worth so there is still more to be done.
~ hoover the rest of the house
~ walk the dog in the rain. We might go to the beach and see if it is raining there. I'm hoping it'll be too windy to be wet?!
~ pull something out of the freezer for tea
~ maybe bake a cake. I had lots of compliments for my last sponge (ds' b/d cake). The neighbours we shared it with said they'd really enjoyed it.

Back later.

Starbear · 21/11/2009 12:04

TM Just go with the flow, breath in and release.
Right must get on with things only have 45 mins now before boys get back from Gymnastics

Shopping done with out a list very dangerous. but I took a trolley so couldn't over spend.
Now
Dry clothes
Load W/M
Making Marconi cheese for tonight (sausage & broccoli too.)
Clean the drain of leaves
15 mins blitz each room
LOOK for camera I can't believe I might have lost another one!

Simply · 21/11/2009 12:05

Starbear We x posted. Your post has made me think that I could get dd to dye my hair. I've also just remembered that dh and I have a Christmas lunch to go to and I need to be smart and presentable for it. I can't remember when it is but I guess I've only got three weeks or so to be fit for sitting at the top table. > Make that a long tiring walk on the beach for the dog and for me and for swimming every day once my cold has gone to try and lose a few pounds!

Starbear · 21/11/2009 12:06

Morning Simply

ImdreamingofaGROUCHYxmas · 21/11/2009 15:26

Hello again...I am a crap FLYfriend

OK, excuses.....

Boris
Working lunchtimes (which I have really enjoyed)
Laptop power issues
I've forgotten my logon details

I have cleaned and tidied Ed's room! It was a heap, has been for weeks. Dusted, vacced, decluttered and done some throwing away. He has a green carpet . The sofabed needs some fixing but, hey, no one is coming round so that's one for another day

So how are you all, I've missed you all

swanriver · 21/11/2009 15:43

LOL green carpet Grouchy
LOL loud wails Simply

my mother appeared out of blue today to visit Ds1, bringing lovely puzzles and Just William books. Sometimes she can be a mite critical, but today she was lovely, saying only positive encouraging things, and not mentioning untidy house and unswept path at all. Also heroically, she listened to several doses of violin playing from eager grandchildren.

Beore that I had a horrible schizo morning, started with lovely smoochy dh, relaxing lazy morning etc etc, then suddenly mum announced she was visiting which prompted major panic about floor sweeping tidying - dcs late for music school, dh unloading bottles of wine which arrived, dcs nearly run over on way to music, hysterical me in tears.
All completely unnecessary as it turned out.
Must be lack of cream cakes affecting me.

Still feelng a bit bleugh now, dh has taken ds2 off to a bus museum, dcs have been listening to youtube and singing along to everything raucously, and I have been KNITTING which is very cheering.

Now we are going out in the rain.

Simply · 21/11/2009 16:13

Help! The day is disappearing fast and I've done very little from my list. [grrr]

I have, though:-
~ unloaded, reloaded and put on d/w
~ put a load of washing in the w/m
~ sewed up the hem of dd's top
~ pulled a single portion from the freezer and cooked it for ds' lunch
~ done the washing up
~ washed up the cat and dog bowls
~ put out the recycling

I have twigged that baking a cake doesn't really go together with trying to lose weight [durr emoticon] so I'm going to get on with the ironing instead. Dh has taken the dog out for a walk but I think I'll give her another walk later as otherwise I won't have left the house all day.

swan Sorry to hear that you had a rough morning. I don't know if I've ever said, but we had in work a "c" rule (made by me) which meant that you weren't allowed to mention chocolate, cake or cawl (Welsh soup) unless you were bringing some in for everyone to share! I'm just as bad as you, well, almost as I didn't mention cream as well as cake!

grouchy Lovely to see you. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying working lunchtimes. Give Boris a stern look from me.

Right. I'd best get off here and do some more. Back later perhaps!

swanriver · 21/11/2009 16:33

We are back. Dd has been dropped off. Ds1's wheelchair has lost a working wheel - need to work how to stick tyre back on so scraped our way home...
Yes Simply, that is why I did knitting, so much less fattening than baking

I think you've done a lot for Saturday!

OverflowingFestiveMum · 21/11/2009 18:47

LOL at you all...especially simply with naughty suggestions....
Unfortunately all Hell has erupted....major argument with SIL...who is now hiding upstairs...me phoned my sister in tears totell her I'm coming to stay till Tues...(slightly irrational reaction really...)
DD4 really poorly again and in bed....DS2 just pood in bath...me now not talking to SIL,DH,andby default MIL....
am breathing deeply and drinking wine...sigh...DH has 7 siblings,,,the boys are all fab....the girls are bonkers....of the 3 boys that are married none of the wives can tolerate any of the family....one brothers lovely wife ran out of the house in floods of tears last time we were there...and the other wife spent several days not speaking to any of the family.....
On the whole I've done quite well so far...

oh bum...s'pose I now need to go up and make peace with SIL...sigh....

you lot are great though....think I'll get through this with your help....

Wolfcub · 21/11/2009 21:29

evening all

done - lots, including taking ds to magna
have also cut out the last of the bits for the wedding invites I was supposed to have finished weeks ago. Intend to stick together tomorrow and post Monday.

Right now I am enjoying a nice bottle of wine to myself as dp is out.

swanriver · 21/11/2009 22:08

Sounds lovely Wolfcub - what form do invites take?
Just finished snuggling up to slightly demanding dcs - all at last conked out
Dh has taken wheel OFF wheelchair so now it doesn't work at all
OFM Ahh I'm being a bit dim again, so it is the SISTER of your dh, and MIL's daughter, see that that complicates matters - perhaps she is supertense and feels she is "looking after" her mother thus the rather aggressive manner. Sounds utterly wearing - anyway always better to speak your mind, and then no more lurking nasties.
TM hope you are having a lovely birthday evening with Dh
Scatty - THAT IS AMAZING to have done your XMAS SHOPPING.
bbtommorrow when I've hoovered (bags arrived at last -joy)
Star - have a good evening

swanriver · 21/11/2009 22:12

On second thoughts does not sound as if your SIL is looking after your MIL at all, but is feeling very needy herself..and creating trouble so that she gets lots of attention. Oh dear, it is very difficult - you can't look after her as well really you can't.

Starbear · 22/11/2009 11:02

scatty Well done re Christmas shopping you are on course to go on that cruise.
Wolf Hope you get the invites done.
Swan I really have missed something. Wheelchair for who? Sorry if you have to repeat it.
Well, nice night last night. Did my hair in a 80'scruch, as I haven't had a hair cut yet. You know put lots of mousse in hair tip hair over and dry while scruching. Looked better than trying to do anything else with it.
Well must crack on various things in kitchen not going well. After plumber left I noticed that the drains were blocked (arrgh!)
Something is lurking in the fridge so I have to figure that out.
Back with a list

Starbear · 22/11/2009 11:08

wendyhappysmile · 22/11/2009 11:24

Morning all
DD's 3rd birthday today! Am already shattered LOL, party at 2 pm, spent all day yesterday working on party stuff. I will be so relieved when party season is over.
Feeling hurt and cross this morning. DD has invited DS's friend (a girl) to the party, who she has played with lots. Her mum is only 21 and a single mum on benefits and quite unreliable - I try to make allowances, I am 35, she is 21 - what on earth was I doing at that age?! (You lot will remember I tutored her for her A level English Lit - hours and hours - for free; then there was the incident when she invited us to her DD's birthday at soft play and when we got there said she had no money and I had to pay, and asked me to buy a cake for the birthday party and never paid me back). Anyway she texted last night to say she had hurt her ankle and couldn't walk so couldn't come to the party, and hadn't got a present either so couldn't come. I texted this morning to say I would pick them up, had a present in the loft she could buy off me for £3. She has texted back to say she has already made other arrangements as she thought she wasn't coming as she can't walk on her ankle and anyway she hasn't got £3. I'm afraid my sympathy for this girl has entirely run out! I know DD will ask where she is and why she isn't at the party - I feel so bad for my DD and I am hurt that after all I have done for this person she can't literally be bothered to do this for my DD.
There, sorry for rant.
Right, need to get showered and ready, make sandwiches, arrange tables, get out craft stuff, then we're ready.
BBL - sorry lack of personals - apart from OFM thinking of you and your visitors lots! It's almost Tuesday!

Simply · 22/11/2009 11:28

Hello to all. I really should go swimming in a mo. Ds and dh are out. Dd is going out to lunch (lucky her!) and will be picked up soon. I'm going to tidy up the kitchen (dh made - well, defrosted and reheated - tea last night and didn't think to clean the worktops afterwards) and then go swimming.

Dd just told me not to leave Christmas shopping until the last minute. The nearest lot of decent shops are a hour and a half train ride away so I think I'd better book a train ticket soon as I won't have that much time during next w/e when it's the MN meet up. Hmmmm. Right. Best crack on. I've dilly dallied enough today already!

scattyspice · 22/11/2009 14:14

Wendy - Hope the party is going well - hats off to you!

Simply - are you going to the meet up, how exciting!

Star - yep, cruising all the way from here .

Have just returned from a very blustery morning on the beach! Have given myself earache!

Going to have a little snooze then tackle the laundry/ironing.

OFM - hope today is going well.

swanriver · 22/11/2009 14:15

Just beginning to have that frazzled Sunday feeling, when hey remembered to count my blessings ie: I am NOT giving a party ths afternoon, and have no-one staying....

Wendy good luck think parties are like givign birth seriously tiring and then HIGH HIGH HIGH. But I think you might have to give up on that friend - what a very kind thought of you to offer to pick her up as well.

Have done
taken two dcs to church which was a great pickmeup - feel a bit like a medieval peasant must have felt leaving hovel for beautiful music, lovely uplifting architecture, peaceful calm thoughts, kind friendly people. And just when I felt like shaking ds2 who was rolling on the floor, we had to give a sign of peace to each other - so that made us all behave a lot better...
Cooked lunch, bangers and mash,veg.
Wrapped pre-organised present for dd to take to a party.
Made dh drop her at the party, he has come back Oh dear, in a grumpy mood. Complaining about contents of fridge. But he has mended wheel with superglue and a piece of cork

Star - Ds1 ((9 years)broke his femur badly about 3 wweeks ago, was operated on, and is now in a wheelchair/on crutches for next 9 weeks, and can't go to school till,I suppose, after Xmas.

Simply · 22/11/2009 14:56

Hello again all. I drove to the swimming pool to find they'd changed the times since I printed off the list from their website and so I couldn't swim after all! Imagine putting a fortnight's worth of days and times on a website and then changing them when there is no mention that they are subject to change! Seeing as it has cost me several pounds with the wasted journey, I'm going to ask them to put this clearly on their website in future.

swan I've probably missed it but can the school accomodate your ds with his crutches and/or wheelchair? I'd expect it to be up to them to enable him to continue his schooling especially with such a run of the mill type of temporary disability. Ds went to school as normal and I just gave him a letter to ask the school to allow him to use the lift which is not normally made available to pupils and to ensure that he was given any help necessary with his school bag in order to get from lesson to lesson and cope with the lunch queue.

scatty Care to join me? Yes, I know you live a fair distance away from London as do I but EHM isn't able to go and her place is paid for and I've got a twin room booked you could share for free. Interested? [hopeful ]
