Best method of cleaning cooker?

DH has just rung me at work to say that his attempts to clean the cooker with Mr Muscle foam oven cleaner were something of a failure. Any tips for him on more effective ways of doing it?

Oh - I was going to suggest taking one DH or failing that Mr Muscle. Both have worked spectacularly well on my oven recently which had been sadly neglected for a while. Is is the hob or the oven you're having problems with?

If you can afford it call in the professionals!!! I had mine done yesterday and it looks like new - and no nasty chemicals just extremely hot water and elbow grease.

Money well spent I think!

No he's not trying to get out of it - not his style. It's the oven rather than the hob which has been sorely neglected since DDs arrival.

Thanks all have noted your tips for the future. Got home to find DH wouldn't let the cooker beat him and had used vast quantities of elbow grease and got the job done. It's now gleaming

Mr Muscle is rubbish
Oven Pride is completely amazing. And at about £4 a box incredible value.

Steam cleaners are great cleaning for ovens.

Pay someone - or failing that lakeland do a product that is fantastic. I use that on the oven itself and oven pride for the racks only.

Another vote for Oven Pride. With the added measure of my mum. Who has cleaned my oven the last 2 times.

I did mine on Sunday using soda crystals and a tablespoonful of bio washing powder. Results looked as good as mr muscle/oven pride and for the first time ever my oven didn't smoke and stink when I used it so it was actually more effective.

Plus it was far kinder on the hands (always forget gloves) and I didn't pass out from the fumes.

Scaryclaireyboo, I need details! My oven needs a good clean. What did you do with the soda crystals? Did you dissolve them in anything and in what quantities? Do you leave it to do it's work and for how long? I am all ears!

I made a paste with the soda crystals and some water and spread it over the bottom of the oven (left maybe 5 mins) then dissolved approx 3 tablespoons soda crystals in warm water with 1 tablespoon bio washing powder and just wiped and wiped until brown stuff stopped coming away. Then went over it again with a damp cloth to get rid of any residue. No scrubbing was involved.

Another vote for the Lakeland product-it might be more expensive but it works.

Thank you, Scaryclaireyboo. I am trying it now. (Finally!) I read your post to dh, who said, 'Soda crystals? You've got some? What - in the cupboard, just on standby?' Oh yes!

I'm doing the top oven, he's going to do the bottom oven with 'Dr. Beckmann'. (This passes for entertainment in our house. That's what happens if you don't build up a network of babysitters.)

I last had my cooker cleaned by a cleaning company and they were absolutely fantastic - no chemicals used, just pure hard scrubbing. Money well spent as far as I was concerned.
