Best method of cleaning cooker?

DH has just rung me at work to say that his attempts to clean the cooker with Mr Muscle foam oven cleaner were something of a failure. Any tips for him on more effective ways of doing it?

i've had my cooker cleaned by a company today [double oven and the hob £75]he was here for about 3 hours
looks like a new oven would definately recommend it
