Bit of a long-shot but does anyone want to join me for a mutual kick-up-the-bum motivational thread starting tomorrow 1st August?

[then we could join (or re-join for about third time in my case ) main Flying or slatterns thread thereafter ....]

My house is a tip and I want to get it straight again before schools starts on 1st September ...

added to that I have visitors coming to stay at the end of the month too ...

both of these factors are making me feel stressed and the whole house is getting on top of me. Need to declutter, organise, tidy and clean.

Heeellllp, pleaasssee, someone .....

This sounds like a fabulous idea - I hope it's not too late for me to join. We had a party for dh's 40th on saturday night and I was frantically getting the house ready all last week. Was painting til 11.30 on thursday night and then cleaning out the fridge at 6.30 on friday morning before I went to work. There has to be an easier way!!
I keep using the fact that I have a full time job and a toddler as an excuse but I should still be able to keep on top of things. I have looked at flylady and like the 'little & often' approach but have never been able to stick to it.

positiveattitudeonly · 10/08/2009 19:16

Hi all, Welcome to Waiting for nemo.

Just flying past. Only one load of washing accomplished today. One load on line for 10 minutes before the rain came, so had to get it all back in quick. Failed miserably with everything else today. Hopefuly not nosediving to crash landing!!!!

CTGH - I would happily post the daily things on here, but I would need to have an idiots guide as to how I do it. If you cant post instructions on here, then email me at directioneeded at aol dot com.

Must go as having a family dvd night. No housework for me tonight!!!!

Love to all you flying ladies. Please keep posting, don't give up!!!

Countingthegreyhairs · 11/08/2009 10:24

aw, thank you for your lovely post tibni - well done on shoe sort - and lol at "explorer" ...!!!! Are you sure there wasn't a tunnel entrance UNDER the wicker basket???!!!! Good luck to your dh and congrats to dd on her distinction!

A warm welcome Nemo - not too late to join at all!! The frantic preparation you describe is a very familiar scenario in our house!! I think Flylady describes this as CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome!!) I want to change to little and often too as I want dd to witness a better "model" and I want to be able to enjoy a supper party/visit etc without being stressed out and tired. With a bit of persistence and mutual goading, we will hopefully get there this time!!

Sorry your day didn't go as well as usual PA. Keep on trucking!! Thanks for offering to cover while I am away. [It's fairly simple - has to be if I can manage it - click on Flylady.net - go to Beginner's Baby-steps (listed on left-hand side of screen) - open up and scroll down - copy and paste that day's step.] Thanks again!!!

Speaking of which:

Here's today's ....

Trial run while you are around to ask any daft questions of, if it doesn't work. Hope you don't mind. I would feel terribly responsible for "chaos" if I was not able to do this when you are away.

positiveattitudeonly · 11/08/2009 10:51

Hey, it works!!!!

Sorry everyone, don't get confused, you only have to do day 11 once, I was just testing for next week!!

Love to all you lovely ladies. Keep going with those little steps. They'll all add up and you will see a difference.
Definite steps to chaos today as packing dd2 and ds up for going to a camp at 7am tomorrow morning. Lounge is covered in tents/clothes/wellies/bags/food and they are expecting me to pack it into the tiniest of bags, so that it is not too heavy and cumbersome!!! Oh well at least this week it is all clean stuff. Next Monday they will return with mud caked throughout every item I am sure. Although, ds's wash bag always remains remarkably intact and looks suspiciously like it has not been touched for a week???? Must get some pegs for nose for when I collect them!!

I have decided that it is definitely more economical to be a slob!! I spent a fortune yesterday on cleaning stuff and cloths and sprays and everything else.

Fridge and freezer MUST go top of list today (after the packing) as our new one arrives on Thursday and oldies need to be emptied and put out to be taken. Very excited about my new freezer. Been waiting 15 years for my Beko small fridge and freezer to break so that I can get a far bigger one! The one we bought 15 years ago was supposed to be a very cheap stop-gap until it broke and we would get another. The best advert for Beko fridges going...they are still working fine, but I am fed up of waiting for them to break!! Knowing me this one will fail the day the warrantee wears out!!
Enough waffle. Must go and sort out camping equipment and get sorted. Must get off computer. Must get off computer. Must get off computer!!

tibni · 12/08/2009 08:56

PAO - I really need to start on packing. We go away Saturday and I know we have an American style fridge freezer in the property so I will come home really wanting one. It will be all dreams until we are sorted work wise but it is good to dream sometimes.

Hello and welcome Nemo.

Yesterday was a bit of a slow day for me. I had people round sorting out the Direct Payments that I qualify for ds, spent hours talking through employment law, finance, insurance etc. ds support from his old school is taking on the role which is brilliant. Bank have failed to activate account so I have to go down and talk to them this morning - I have to pay her on 30th - I need to keep this very organised its not my money!

dd wants to have a mummy day while ds is at his playscheme so I have promised to take her shopping this morning. She is so good with ds that she deserves a treat too.

Job wise I have made a start on the paperwork in the office - I really want to get it decorated after holiday but it has to be sorted first, it is such a mess.

Have a good day all

waitingfornemo · 12/08/2009 10:24

Not a great start - haven't managed to shine my sink for the last 2 days, although I did clean bathroom this morning before work.
Enjoy shopping with your dd, tibni - sounds lovely.
positiveattitudeonly, I know what you mean about the freezer. We inherited one from mil when we moved into our house. It's a chest freezer but has no baskets so impossible to find anything - I keep praying for it to break down but it is surprisingly resilient!

SnowWoman · 12/08/2009 14:03

Afternoon Everyone

Gosh haven't we all been busy!!!!!

I've spent the last few days working on the control journal and I think I've managed to put together something that will work for mornings - the only thing I need to add is to make pack lunches on Monday when the DCs go back to school. It's going to take a while to get the rest sorted out though.

Laundry mountain is still there, but at least it is now confined to the baskets and not overflowing onto the landing upstairs as well. The weather has been so awful that it has to be dried indoors or in the drier - ridiculous really considering it's supposed to be summer.

Today's tasks are to do a list of business phone calls and de-clutter the dresser, which could take a wee while

Countingthegreyhairs · 12/08/2009 20:40

Hello everyone!!! I'm really, really sorry not to have posted today's step earlier!!!!

I was on stand-by to look after my friend's dc while she gave birth and it all happened rather sooner than expected in the early hours of this morning so literally haven't had a minute until just now when we took them back home. Saw the new baby (home birth)- he's gorgeous [broody emoticon]. Something very other-wordly about newborns. Twas a long but very good day.

Thanks for trial run PA! Hope your dc have a good time.

Good luck with the paperwork and sorting all the finances tibni - it sounds complicated. Hope you and dd had a lovely morning together.

Well done with the bathroom Nemo! Don't worry about not getting everything done - little and often will get you there

Congrats Snowoman on sorting your schedule and lowering the laundry mountain!!

Let's all keep going and apologies again for posting so late!!!

Here's today's and tomorrow's together -

Countingthegreyhairs · 14/08/2009 10:20

Morning all.

How are we all doing? Flying high? Soaring gently? Or about to crash land? (Hope not the latter!)

Here's - rather belatedly - our baby-step for today

Day 14

www.flylady.net/pages/bbd14.asp

  • a bit of light reading

PA - please would you mind taking over for me for a week from tomorrow? Hopefully will be off on holiday soon if dh can unstick himself from his desk.... Thank you, good luck everyone and KEEP FLYING!!

OP posts:
SnowWoman · 14/08/2009 14:43

Oooooh a new baby - how lovely Congratulations to your friend Counting.

Had a bit of a wobble yesterday but am actually decluttering (!) my kitchen cupboards today. The oldest item so far is a 2001 bottle of fish sauce only half used.

I have had very little success in the past in getting the DCs on board with FLYing, until they watched Kim and Aggie last night - the bugs in the kitchen made them all decide that perhaps learning to keep the kitchen and their bedrooms clean might be "a good thing".

We'll see how long it lasts

positiveattitudeonly · 14/08/2009 15:10

Hi all,

CTGH - That's fine I will post the daily tip. I will try to do it first thing in the morning. Just post when you get back and you can take back your managerial role! Have a fab holiday and I hope you feel ready to fly when you get home.

Snowwoman - Love that programme, it makes me feel quite good that there are people out there who are worse than me! Good luck wiith keeping kids on board. DD2 asked for a top to be ironed the other day and I said I was not going to iron it as I did not think it was necessary, but she was welcome to do it herself. She decided it was ok to wear after all!!

I haven't posted for a few days as I have failed miserably. My washbins are still not empty. I will have to get my act together.
Fridge freezer arrived yesterday and is wonderful. I loved going mad in the supermarket to fill it all up!
Must get into my kitchen cupboards and sort through.I will see if I can beat 2001!!!
Keep flying....no nosedives!!

Countingthegreyhairs · 14/08/2009 16:11

Thanks PA - much appreciated - and you haven't failed miserably. Just try and do one small thing a day (you have been doing loads!!!)

Thanks SnowWoman - he is gorgeous - hope the kitchen cupboard is going OK and great your dc are now flying too.

positiveattitudeonly · 15/08/2009 07:15

Morning all!

Here's todays step. www.flylady.net/pages/bbd15.asp

My goal is yet again to empty that bloomin' wash bin this weekend. A weekend of naturism, or wearing filthy clothes and smelling, or just getting my act together. Which is easier???

Have a good weekend and hope you all feel good about what you acheive.

Keep posting!

positiveattitudeonly · 16/08/2009 08:13

Am I the only one left in the country?

Or are you all so organised your houses are now perfect?

Or are you so busy doing the clearing and cleaning that you are not on the internet?

Anyway, in case anyone is interested here is today's.
www.flylady.net/pages/bbd16.asp
Although, it is about reading am email that fly lady sends you, but if we are doing it just on here, we wont be geting the email. So perhaps a day off, or a day to catch up on the last 15 days?????

Still cannot see the bottom of my washbin. Wasn't there a fairy story when I was a kid about a jar of porridge that never emptied. It just kept filling up by magic. Well, I think the fairies have put a spell on my bins! Today! Today! Today!
My reason for being so determined to get it done today is slightly with reason behind it! Tomorrow morning I collect 2 dcs from a camping trip. I know I will have at least 4 loads of muddy clothes, so if I dont see the bottom today, I have no hope over the next few weeks!!

Let me know if you are out there, or am I rambling away to myself???

positiveattitudeonly · 17/08/2009 07:40

Morning to myself!!

Today's step: www.flylady.net/pages/bbd17.asp

I will also celebrate with myself about my empty washbins and clean kitchen floor!!!

If anyone is out there, have a good day!

dreamteamgirl · 18/08/2009 00:15

Hi everyone!! But especially POA
Haven just read your posts

Sorry I havent been here- broken laptop, and just borrowed a spare one, from my sister

I am doing well, I can see my floor, the toys have homes, but kithcen is looking great- my mum came over and gave me 4 hours when DS was away and we cleared out my drawers and tall cupboard and made them look amazing

Here 's day 18 -the 11 commandments. Never read them before, but interesting stuff - I especially like number 4!!!!!!! Maybe thats why things are going better- less computer time?

mathanxiety · 18/08/2009 07:15

'Something you enjoy' means chocolate, methinks.

mathanxiety · 18/08/2009 07:16

OMG positiveattitudeonly you have a clean kitchen floor?

positiveattitudeonly · 18/08/2009 07:47

Hi I am so pleased I am not waffling to myself!

Thanks dreamteamgirl for posting today's notes. You are super organised!!

Yep, clean floor! You should have seen the colour of the water that went down the drain!

Washbin will be overflowing later when I empty the cases from 2dcs camping trip! I enjoyed th emptiness while it lasted!

Sorted out the hotspot a few weeks ago, now have to confess to having just moved it from one place to have a different hotspot take over. My goal for the next few days is to wipe out that one too. I wont say I will do it today.Just going to work, then possibly down to beach with dcs after work, so no time today.

Keep going everyone

dreamteamgirl · 18/08/2009 13:40

LOL, not so organised- I did it last night whilst blatendly disregarding the previous days instruction to set a bed time and stick to it!!

Is it nice to have DCs back? I alwasy feel guilty that I dont miss DS for the first few days - I just so love the peace and quiet!

Laundry is a darn nuisance. Like painting the Forth (?Sp?) bridge isnt it? Have only 2 loads to do, and that makes me worse... I am sure I do more when it is more pressing eg 7 loads stacked up.

Todays jobs to do

Get last remaining ornaments and tat out of au pairs room -carpet is being washed today
Move one shelf of books out (leaving 4 more shelves) so as to make a start on emptying book shelf
Fold laundry into ironing basket and/ or drawers
Do another load of laundry
Spend just 10 minutes filing bits of paper made homeless by study -> bedroom conversion.- My hotspot equivilant

positiveattitudeonly · 19/08/2009 07:29

Here's today's: www.flylady.net/pages/bbd19.asp

Just a "little lift me up" in todays notes really.

My to-do list today is the same as yesterday's as managed nothing yesterday! With this lovely weather i just want to be outside, not in doing housework! Also DD2 is poorly and DD3 appears to be slipping into a relapse with her CFS/ME - or hopefully just a blip.
I need a positive attitude talk to myself!

Have a good day and I hope you are more productive than mine was yesterday, or is likely to be today

positiveattitudeonly · 20/08/2009 09:13

Here's today's : www.flylady.net/pages/bbd20.asp

Sorry just flying by as the house is a bit like a hospital here, with only one nusre on duty.....ME!!!! Just can't get teh staff these days. Oh forgot, I am at home, no staff, just me.

Off to put some washing in and sort out yesterday's lot.

positiveattitudeonly · 21/08/2009 09:33

And today's : www.flylady.net/pages/bbd21.asp

Waffling to myself again. Impressed that I managed to give a good hoover all downstairs yesterday, only to have the hoover fly open on me and spill its entire contents over my newly hoovered carpet. not amused at all!!
Upstairs with hoover today is my plan and I am even hopeful of empty washbins again! If the dcs are too ill to go out I may tackle a drawer to be emptied and sorted. Or if they are feeling a bit better we will all go out and I will yet again get absolutely nothing done!!
Kids and life still come first. The housewwork will still be there tomorrow, and the next day, and the next, and the next......
Hope you are all enjoying the summer and managing to relax a bit too.

positiveattitudeonly · 22/08/2009 08:04

Hello me. Nice to be talking to me again.
Here's todays notes www.flylady.net/pages/bbd22.asp

Rubbish day all round yesterday, so absolutely nothing got done!
Will try again today.

Where have you all gone??? Don't give up, come back and tell us all how bad wea re all being, then we can all be bad together!!!
