Bit of a long-shot but does anyone want to join me for a mutual kick-up-the-bum motivational thread starting tomorrow 1st August?

[then we could join (or re-join for about third time in my case ) main Flying or slatterns thread thereafter ....]

My house is a tip and I want to get it straight again before schools starts on 1st September ...

added to that I have visitors coming to stay at the end of the month too ...

both of these factors are making me feel stressed and the whole house is getting on top of me. Need to declutter, organise, tidy and clean.

Heeellllp, pleaasssee, someone .....

I know this is the wrong one, but I wanted to answer your post, but don't want to put off all the newbies with us just chatting away.
Really sorry to here about your dd's first day. I hope that tomorrow will be better for her. Is she a quiet girl? It is heartbreaking watching your little ones struggle with something like that. Hopefully she will pal up with a little one soon and not feel so on her own.

Isn't it funny all these new baby-flyers! I will never remember all the names. I hope it is not just you, tbni and me by the end of the month again. All these houses changing all round the country, what power!!!

positiveattitudeonly · 01/09/2009 19:49

Obviously hear, not here.

Countingthegreyhairs · 02/09/2009 07:39

Oh sorry PA - great minds think alike - I was worried about chatting putting off the newbies too - but I stupidly posted over there instead of here as I've only just seen this - apologies!! It's a really good idea to reserve this for non-Flying stuff.

Yeah, tis brilliant re: all the new recruits!!

Fortunately she is not at all shy - she is very very sociable - which is why she is so disappointed not to be sitting with someone!! Perhaps the teachers have done it deliberately so she doesn't chat We'll see, we'll see, early days and all that.

Dashing out of door but hope you have a good 'un and you manage to score some trousers today!!

Trouser hunt mission for today.

Thinking of your DD. Hope today improves her impression of school life.

I think it is really funny that last month there was just a few of us and we sort of muddled along - although I have to admit I am secretly (or not so secretly, as I have not stopped bragging telling all my RL friends/family about it) really pleased with my house now. This month everyone seems far more serious about it. I am not a serious person. I hope everyone can still keep popping in and not feeling pressure. - Pressure pushes me in the opposite direction, but I guess not everyone is like me? (did I hear a thank GOD???)

have a good day

positiveattitudeonly · 02/09/2009 17:07

How did the school go today? Smiling faces all round??

Can I nominate myself for the most disorganised mum on earth?? I finally got to the uniform shop at 2pm, only to find it is only open in the mornings! The standing joke about underpants is becoming less of a joke and panic is really setting in. If we can't get them tomorrow I have not got a clue what to do. I will have to scour the internet again and pay for next day delivery, i suppose. (I live on an island with fairly limited shops and next day deliver is never next day, but 2 days, so tomorrow really is my very, very last chance) fingers crossed for tomorrow!

Every time I post on the September thread, by the time I have posted there's more posts from others and more newbies!!

Countingthegreyhairs · 02/09/2009 19:47

Hi PA

Yes it certainly is active on the other thread - I can't keep up either!!

What a b*er about the shop closing (sounds like Belgium!!) Did you have any luck on the internet?

This site is good but I don't think they will deliver fast enough:

www.perryuniform.co.uk/

[Visions of courier chap paddling madly across stretch of water to reach you to sound of Hawaii 5 O theme tune!!]

A much better day today thank you but children only go to school in the morning here on Wednesdays so a very short day. (Wed afternoons reserved for sport/music/art etc.) I'll get a more accurate picture of how the land lies tomorrow afternoon ...

OP posts:
positiveattitudeonly · 03/09/2009 19:33

Hope today at school was ok.

Love the other thread, but feel it is a bit big and impersonal ish, if you get me. I suppose its just me. I hate crowds in real life and I feel a bit the same on here.
Anyway, just wanted to pop by and say Hi. My house is still looking good and I am still really chuffed. I go back my second job on Monday, so will have less time to be obsessive, but hopefully I will have time to keep it to the standard it is now, rather than it becoming a tip again.

Pants wearing to school has been avoided at the 11th hour! Huge relief all round (apart from my bank balance!)

DH has just bought the 2nd washbin down. I think he may be hinting that I could do some more wahing tonight! not impressed!!!!

Countingthegreyhairs · 05/09/2009 00:28

Yes, all smiles today thank you PA, positively upbeat in fact! Huge relief ....

Well done on your house - you SHOULD be chuffed - you've done amazingly well.

Have only been back at work two days and I am already drowning. I'm not good at balancing the office with domestic stuff. Hope my fledgling flying routine doesn't go to pot!! Must try hard ....

Good luck on Monday if we don't "speak" before.

Hey wonder woman, how do you manage 5 kids and 2 jobs?????!!!!

OP posts:
positiveattitudeonly · 05/09/2009 20:40

Please don't think I am superwoman. All my kids are older - youngest 12 and my two jobs are a breeze and the maximum of 20 hours a week. I feel I have a very cushy life and definitely no excuse for the pigsty my home used to be.

Hope you have a good weekend.

Countingthegreyhairs · 06/09/2009 10:15

Methinks you are far too modest PA!! "Chapeau to you" as they say over here!
Have a good Sunday!

OP posts:
positiveattitudeonly · 07/09/2009 15:04

"hats" to you too!!!! Not too sure if I have that right, but googled it!

Countingthegreyhairs · 08/09/2009 15:44

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PA!!!

Hope you have a lovely celebration and a lovely night out with your dh!!! xxx

OP posts:
positiveattitudeonly · 09/09/2009 16:00

Hi there,

Thanks for the birthday greetings. You are getting some serious, well deserved praise on the other thread, well done!!

Had an absolutely LOVELY evening yesterday. It was sooo good .
Diet started today and i have even added myself to one of those slimming threads on here. Hopefully it will help me as I find it really difficult to resist anything with a high calorie/fat content. Being short is a bit of a B**er too. Just need a large stretching machine I think.

I hope your DD is doing ok at school. DD3 started back at a specialist education unit yesterday after missing all of last year due to her illness. Just one hour a day. Struggling already with coping. It is really making her so tired. We will have to see how she goes.

Anyway, "speak" soon.

Countingthegreyhairs · 09/09/2009 21:10

Hi PA. So glad you had such a good (and well-deserved) evening last night.

Sorry to hear that your dd3 is finding it tough going though back at school. It must be so hard for her after a year out. Hopefully she will adjust but do you have the option of going three days rather than five for example until some of her strength returns? Thinking of you both x

Need to join one of those slimming threads myself (target = lose 10 kg by Christmas) but am just not mentally in the right place at the moment. Maybe later on in the month when things have calmed down and I start meal planning. Good luck with it!

OP posts:
positiveattitudeonly · 13/09/2009 22:13

Hi there.
Hope you have had a good weekend.

Mine has been a little traumatic. Big stupid irrational row with DH last evening resulted in neither of us eating at all, after I had been looking forward to a take away all day and due to the diet I had not eaten much all day!! Realised this morning that AF (hate that saying) had come, which explains the stupid arguement about a door!!!!!!!!! - don't ask. You know when you know you are being really stupid, but cant stop yourself! That was me last night!
Anyway, had an Indian tonight and feel as stuffed as a bear! I can justify all the calories as it is 2 days worth!! YUM!

Hope you are doing OK.

Housewise, I do think I have mainly cracked this , cos i do now get a bit wound up when things start slipping, whereas 6 weeks ago I would not have cared less, cos it was always a mess everywhere. I still cannot work out why everyone else seems to effortlessly have tidier houses than me, but I am happy with mine as it is now. After all it is my home - not a show home!

Countingthegreyhairs · 15/09/2009 15:44

Yo PA!! Thank you SO much for keeping other thread going. So sorry not to give you any advance warning - mad w/e - went to wedding on Sat - hosted dinner in eve (you just get invited to bits of weddings over here - sometimes not whole thing) - then was at post-baptism tea on Sun when got message from my sister that my ma had taken a tumble in her garden and had been lying there for almost 3 hours and was now in local hospital. Wouldn't normally matter as my sister lives 5 mins away but they were away for the weekend and the race was on as to who could get there first!! Luckily however she hasn't broken anything and got away with a sprain and a sore back. Lucky also that dh wasn't travelling and could hold the fort here yesterday and today. Whole situation needs addressing though .... ..

Doesn't sound as if your weekend was much better. Hope you are feeling OK and row has blown over. LOL at stuffed as a bear. I find it impossible to diet just before AF (hate phrase too) ... usually want to eat an entire heifer ...raw... around then...

I totally 'get' how you feel about slippage. I've only been away two nights and the house is completely upside down ... sigh ... and unlike your place ... only two others living here. It gets me down frankly. Dh brilliant in other ways (cooking, childcare) but HOPELESS at tidying up after himself or others. I'm not great either tbh but getting better!!

I reckon you deserve a huge pat on the back. With 5 almost-grown dc + 1 dh all moving stuff around - it's a wonder ANYTHING stays in its place - you've done amazingly well. And "my home, not show home" is definitely the right attitude.

Heigh ho. Must go and tackle laundry pile which is spreading across the basement floor.

THANKS again ....

positiveattitudeonly · 16/09/2009 07:46

How are things now?? Sorry to hear you had a mad weekend. Older parents can be more hassle than the kids cant they??? I hope she is ok now, but it does sound like a totally crazy weekend. Concentrate on the feet up, coffee and magazine baby step today!!!

Everyone seems really keen on the other thread. Probably put off the ones that weren't so eager at the start!

How is you DD getting on at school? Here DD3 has now done 6 days at the unit, just one hour a day and she is absolutely exhausted. She loves every second of it, which is wonderful, but I am worried that if she cannot cope with the hour a day she will really crash down healthwise and it will really frustrate her that she is not as well as she thinks she is . We should see how she goes for the next few weeks and take it from there, but I do feel I am holding my breath a bit!!

I hope you can relax a bit today.

Countingthegreyhairs · 16/09/2009 13:52

All fine now thanks PA. This is the fourth time it has happened (last time she fell in exactly the same place but I happened to be close by) and we (collectively as a family - siblings in UK) have to ACT but my ma is very stubborn stalwart and vehemently rejects any help. We are getting her another one of those emergency buttons things as a start (she had one but it kept malfunctioning) but my sister has been trying to persuade her to move in with her but ma will not cooperate!!

I feel really awful that I haven't enquired about your dd3 before now. It is great that she is loving being back at school but it must be worrying for you that it is exhausting her so much. If it is any consolation (probably isn't) all the dc I know who are back at school are exhausted including my dd although I know it doesn't really compare to your situation. Can you keep things fairly calm for her at weekends so she can recuperate? Fingers crossed for you that she steadily starts building up her stamina this week and next. What do her docs say? Thinking of you both x

OP posts:
positiveattitudeonly · 18/09/2009 19:39

Well, have you inherited any of the stubborn stalwart genes?
the more time I spend with my dad, who is incredibly stubborn and set in his ways, the more I see myself in him . He is going to be (if not there already ) the epitomy of a grumpy old man!! But hey, you love them and just have to muddle through somehow, don't you. I will practice being a grumpy old lady now, although my kids reckon not much practice is needed in the grumpy area, or the old region either . Which is worse, teenagers or older parents???

Anyway, please don't feel bad about not asking about DD3. I am sure you have enough to think about. The stubborn genes in our family have definitely passed to her in double measure! She is still tired each day, but is determined that she will increase her time steadily. Our consultant is fantastic and she is really pleased with her progress, which according to all the research is amazingly fast - Dr puts this down to her stubborn attitude!! She cannot cope with anything other than the 1 hour a day and just relaxes with DVDs at the weekend. She may have a friend around for an hour tomorrow if she feels she can cope, but that really tires her out too and she has not been able to see friends for at least a month now. But she is hugely better than was for the first 6 months of the year, so we are looking upwards.

I hope this weekend is more relaxing than last weekend. Have a good one

Countingthegreyhairs · 20/09/2009 19:21

My dh would answer that question with a definite "yes" PA!! I'm going to be a very grumpy old lady indeed!!

Your dd3 sounds fantastic - it is so impressive that she has so much determination and grit with everything she has gone through - you must be a very proud mum. I hope everything continues to progress steadily and well for her x
Have a good week PA!

Big hugs to you.

Hope you are feeling better very soon.

In a hurry now, but will post later.

Countingthegreyhairs · 23/09/2009 19:10

Thanks PA! I am feeling a bit better today although it was a hideous virus. I wonder where these nasty bugs come from nowadays?

Anyway, I am certainly not the only one suffering on the other thread. It's worse when the littlelies are poorly.

Hope you escape the lurgies!!

Take care! x

Hi there,

I'm glad you seem to be back to yourself more! How is DD doing at school? How is your mum now?

Seems to have been a real success on the September fly thread, not so lonely this month . Well done in keeping everyone on track. I have noticed that I am absolutely useless at retaining the information of who has done what, or has asked what etc. So I end up not really answering anyone, or commenting, cos I keep on having to scroll up and down constantly! You are so good at it.!!! Do you sit with your tabbard on with a notebook in your pocket and make notes as you read through??

Have a good weekend

Countingthegreyhairs · 26/09/2009 14:37

Yo PA! You've caught me out . Here I am with a rare couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon to myself and I'm mnsnetting!! I'm supposed to be clearing out the hell hole storage room on the landing. I can barely get the door open it is so full of junk!

Thank you for the compliments - v. kind of you - but I spend ages scrolling up and down too! My memory is about as retentive as a bucket with a hole in it!

Ma and dd doing well thanks. How about you and yours, particularly dd3?

Yes, the September thread has been a brilliant success. Everyone has contributed really well. What do you want to do in October? Shall we just repeat baby-steps? Or duel baby-steps + daily step from Flylady (presuming these can be accessed from her site without having to receive all those e-mails? - must investigate.) What do you think? We should ask all the others too?

(Thinking about it - it might be a bit off-putting for some of the beginners to add in a daily task just yet. I for one haven't completely got to grips with all the baby-steps yet.??? What do you reckon???)

I am happy to lead again or equally happy for someone else to do it.

Let me have your thoughts!

Glorious end of summer/beginning autumn day here! First weekend in ages without social commitments too! Tis lovely to decompress a bit.

Hope you are having equally relaxing w/e (if possible)!
