prof how about a silver or gold VW camper van cake with a slightly hippy style "paint job" down the side, maybe like a swirly banner so it doesn't cover the whole van which could have flowers on it. If you have a big enough board you could then cover it in green and set out a picnic blanket with a bottle of champagne, bowl of fruit and a map of the world. Would suggest using a loaf tin to make the cake if you can't get a vw shaped one

galen · 23/06/2009 20:56

Wolfcub · 23/06/2009 20:58

prof that looks beautiful but way too complex for me

galen · 23/06/2009 21:08

wolf doh! Get it now...obviously just not watching the right stuff LOL

swanriver · 23/06/2009 21:43

Swan's hapennyworth on SCHOOL DINNERS Galen.
Obviously more expensive than lunchboxes that's for certain
But for older kids who like varied diet, possibly good value.
Ours really enjoy their school dinners (esp custardy sponge things) and have eaten loads of veg not usually touched at home.
But sometimes there seems to be a lot of sausages for lunch or strange combinations like baked beans and pizza (yuk) although menu always sounds enticing.
I find for ds1 the advantage of a packed lunch is that he eats more fruit and veg and less stodge. If he's given a choice of cake or apple in school dinner not suprisingly he will choose cake, whereas his packed lunch would only have an apple. He is definitely chubbier on school dinners I fear. Whereas dd will leave most of her lunchbox and is worse off nutritionally -just wants the exciting bits of it, yet will eat things like sweetcorn and peas in school dinners.

It IS a fabulous time saver. The borough provider is meant to be above average quality - no turkey twizzlers at all(I remember reading an article about the company in Times Ed Supp - that's why I put them on school dinners to start with)

Why not just try them out and see what happens?

swanriver · 23/06/2009 21:51

Wolf I was going to ask about that thread title but didn't want to be thought too dim

Well my summer idyll soon deterioated as ds1 had a tantrum at 7.00pm about being not allowed to watch Dr Who (dh and I agreed last week it was all too much and too late for weekday viewing) and not being able to do his D & T homework. The grownups of course did not understand homework either...
All felt better after a book on sofa session.

Evening Ladies

we are having a fab time, super duper weather. Boys are having a whale of a time, loved lego land.

Today has been really relaxing, we went to Beale Park and had a pic nic, boys played in the pool there, saw all the bords, had a train rise, then back to the camp siote for a BBQ.

I have wrapped DS2's pressies - my little baby is three tomorrow - how has that happened.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Galen

TheMadHouse · 23/06/2009 22:30

Prof tis not a tent it is my bedouin abode complete with solar fairy lights, electric kettle and georgoeus DH and sundrenched children.

Camping in this weather is a dream

SimplyIsATalentedBuzzard · 23/06/2009 23:33

I'm on here rather late but wanted to wish galen a Happy Birthday! before midnight.

gibbberish There's no e-mail from you in my inbox but that's fine if you're busy or whatever. If you want a chat, though, give me a shout. P.S. It's good to speak to me on the phone at least once so you get to have a good giggle at my accent!

I can proudly say that I ran lots of errands after work yesterday and so I've finished my list from the other day. I also did about 2 1/2 hours of preparation with the kids' help tonight for the chaps who'll be here tomorrow. Bless the kids for helping. This will be the last of the works needed and then we can put everything back in place and relax! YAY!

See you tomorrow as I've got a day off to be here whilst the chaps are here.

littleboyblue · 24/06/2009 02:19

We survived the day. The boys not happy though, but very hot and only going to get hotter! Oh well.

No flying for me tomorrow (today, whatever) as meeting the ladies from my post-natal thread which'll be nice.
