Things not too bad here today.... house quite reasonable - few bits to do but still going to take it easy

wolf good luck with interview...
mad hope pain is easing are you are doing OK today. Yep thats it with AD's isnt it LOL I was all "hey I'm fine, PND - me noooo." Then I stopped, and 2 weekd later everything starts unravelling again - sigh. still have reigned myself to being on them a while longer...

everyone-else Hi - sorry cant remember much from yesterday!

Yesterday evening was slightly smoother. have been musing evenings and found generally things that help:
Short trip to playground after school - but leave BEFORE tempers start to fray!
Having dinner as early as possible ratehr then waiting for DH to get in - so now plan to feed DC early and same some aside for me and DH later.
All helping to clear up after dinner - but only works if I saty there to supervise - otherwise chaos descends!
Next disperse older 3 to rooms for general tidy and put clothes away, whilst I help DD 3 and 4 tidy room and put away any clothes in there.
Then older 3 homework, DD 3 reading
More playing outside time when weather better, but AFTER all tidying and homework!
Then Littlies in bath... and hopefully DH arrives home somewhere round this point!

Things that dont work:
Staying too long at playground till all tired and hungry!
Leaving dinner till later - always disater!
Leaving older DC to tidy up after dinner on their own - always chaos and lots of arguing!

will continue to refine strategy I think....

Good thing is though they NEVER watch TV in the early evenings anymore.... used to moan about it but now they dont even mention it!Older ones do sometimes watch last program on Cbbc and DS1 watches Dr Who Later but generally a lot less TV than there used to be which is good!

Right now on to today:
To do:
Bake something yummy for me and Dh tonight.... bit of washing away, nappy wash on.
Sort tesco order
Easy dineer tonight (freezer rubbish LOL YAY)
Hoping to chill a bit this afternoon...maybe gentle potter in garden but dont really feel like it today

Hope youre all well.

Hi everyone.

Haven't been around for a while- I've actually been getting better at getting stuff done. Have been to see a kinesiologist who has really sorted me out and I feel so much better and able to get on. House is a bit of a mess but that is because I have actually been decorating (has needed doing for a long time). So basics only.

Done -
Made bed, kids to school etc.
Chemists for more iron tablets
Supermarket for some bits (not big shop)
Had breakfast

To do -
Hang out washing
Put washing on
Hang out 2nd load
vac round
empty d/w
wash up some pots
bread on
continue wallpapering
lunch

Galen sooo right about tempers in the playground. We stopped going for quite a long time after school when DD was younger, as it is a long walk home back up the hill and she would always be too tired to leave the park without argument and get home without tantrums. Hope it's better next time you try it. I'd prefer not to have TV in the early evenings too, and DS (4) doesn't have any, but it is the only time DD (9) can watch Dr Who as it is too scary for DS, so she does watch some.
Prof Hi, are you new or were you someone else before? Hope the muffins have soothed your soul - what kind have you baked?

swanriver · 20/03/2009 11:40

Captain Oates/Prof, come back to the tent.

Galen that's a great strategy, because they are in a much calmer mood after supper, and one doesn't get that bottleneck effect of everyone doing homework fighting just when they are hungry and you are trying to get table ready. I tend to feed before dh, always feel annoyed by two meal system, two lots of cooking and clearing but that's because a. kids don't help me clear (except plates) b. dh hates food kids like, and is driven mad by their whinging over bits of mushroom, eergh what's this comments. He then creates tension. So he is banned from supper. I think weekend meals are enough for him to bond/endure.

Spent morning in more paperwork knots, getting kids' signatures witnessed with tetchy dh in tow. Sent them to school and him to work. Home now and eating birthday cake. Lots to do.

Ever more boring list
thank you notes to forge
change our sheets (not done Wed, but lucky because cat peed on them last night
make beds
hoover our bedroom
ironing (not done montueswedthurs)

plant strawberries with dcs later
plant thyme with dcs later
go to swimming lesson and not fight with dcs
tea in cafe at swimming - very good plan

swanriver · 20/03/2009 11:46

We're lucky - playground is so near school and home, but still everything has to be JUST SO when we return or all hell breaks out on doorstep. And lots of snacks at school pickup - of the sandwich variety. They now have to stand at our gate and be called Thomas train names and come into house one by one or they start murdering each other immediately.

Afternoon all!
swan you always make me smile LOL calling into house one by one. That is SUCH a good idea! It just amazes how much arguing/shouting/chaos can be created be the simple task of just getting the children inside the house! And yes they are always sooo much better after dinner - I think they really do need to eat quite early on - either dinner or snack, but find it is always a relfief to at least have dinner out the way earlyish! Will see how tonight goes!
herbwoman good to see you!
prof LOL chanting and relocating deserts! There'e no end to your talents!

Anyway I'm not here really - actually tidying up lunch stuff! But have done 2 loads washing, and made a Missisipi Mud pie Yum!

Hi all.

galen- I am impressed with your evening routine. We haven't braved after school playground yet . But yesterday they both played for ages in the garden after school (long may it last!).

dyl - Good luck with dd, I am sooo relieved to be emerging from toddlerhood!

Herbwoman - glad your feeling fit now .

Swan - lol at your system for getting them in the house.

Wolf - good luck

Mad - hope DS's are ok today.

Today:
Am trying to have an easy day at work as from next week we have huge staffing crises for 6 wks (calm before the storm). I am trying to adopt a flylady approach to work .

After work:
play in the garden
laundry etc
POST MD CARDS!!

TheMadHouse · 20/03/2009 14:00

Afternoon all

DH has gone to work this afternoon, not till after dropping off mad monster mini mad to my mothers - he is really pushing the boundries with me, we think all due to me going back in to hospital. I am finding it really hard as he has started hitting, kicking and biting again and obviously I am not strong enough to carry him to his room.

DS1 thinks that he loves mummy too much and told me to send him to gradmas!!, so that is what we are trying.

DS1 is being fantastic and has tidied up and wants to bake cakes, so I have got the ingrediants out.

My HS lady is due in an hour and she will do it with him, she is fantastic, bought both the boys baloons and treats this week - I am so lucky to have been matched with a wonderful ex-teacher.

I am glad to be alive today and really enjoying the sunshine, although very frustrated with my lack of ability, espeically in the garden

TheMadHouse · 20/03/2009 16:33

DS1 and W are playing snakes and ladders
We have made and decorated cakes
Potatoes peeled and on for mash
TD is on
Mothers day pressies wrapped
Monopoly played and duck game too

So all in all we are not doing bad. Mum is struggling through with DS2 - he is being a little monster for her too

grouchyoscar · 20/03/2009 17:11

Hello All

Grouchy love to all. I'm too tired to catch up but good luck Wolf happy for you in the sun TMH and Prof think 'Ting'

I've survived a hard week and best of all, no Boris! I've been at school all day wearing several different heads (PTA member,Dinnerlady,Parental helper) and I've been having some sit down with a cuppa and a bun time.

I've been FLYing too. The morning routines just make it so easy. The DW is emptied, Bathroom S&Sd, porridge made, bags ready without even thinking about it. It makes stuff so effortless TBH. I've even got home, made calls, loaded and run WM without thinking about it. You lot have made my life much easier you really have Thanks a million!

DH is doing the kitchen thing so I'm going to take the very back seat. I think I better take a break.

Catch you all later

wendyrednoseredhair · 20/03/2009 17:28

hi all
dashing in
think ds has the dreaded chicken pox, several very small blister like spots on his body and being a general pain
I am very tired today and no patience must go for an early night tonight
On the up side have eaten no biscuits, cakes or choc for two days which is ery good indeed
better go, ds in the 'thinking corner' having a meltdown

galen · 20/03/2009 17:55

Evening all!
mad glad you're enjoying the sun, and glad your HS lady sounds fab!Hope DS2 chills out soon. How's the pain today?
scatty Yay for calm day at work - hope the next few weeks dont turn out too bad
grouchy yay fro no Boris
wendy poor DS. Hope it doent turn out to be too bad.

Fairly calm here so this eve! DH came home early this evening as he knows I've been struggling lately - dinner done super early. Sunshine enjoyed..... DD1 now being allowed TV, DD 2 and 3 dressing up, DS 2 tottering round chuffed with new walking skills and DD4 running round in circles with toy buggy, DD1 writing me a list of books to request for him from library and DH serenading us all with lovely calm piano music LOL Sure it will all fall apart any second but just for now it is a picture of domestic contentment LOL

Most things done today... not doing much at wk/end. Out enjoying sun tomorrow - then hopefully being spoile don Sun!

Have a good eve all. See you tomorrow

galen · 20/03/2009 17:56

oh forgot prof , will post recipe later or tomorrow ..... (goes to check Mud Pie still in fridge and hasnt been stolen! LOL)

OP posts:
swanriver · 20/03/2009 18:25

That is a lovely scene Galen, I can hear the music.
We are back in lalaland (do I mean that?) which is good, dcs have been for a swim and eaten tea and playing in the swimming pool playhouse (dry) Dd has managed to smash a plate here but otherwise...
Ds1 is now allowed to swim in big pool by himself unsupervised which is exciting.

Not much flying done at home, one cat pee incident seems to have permeated every layer of bedding and now the whole house...
Cleared out cupboard under stairs.
Met builder to discuss changing position of fridge.
2 loads of laundry done.
Ironing piled high still not done. (negative thoughts dismissed)

Dd is crying now. I think time for exit.

swanriver · 20/03/2009 18:33

Friday is lovely though isn't it? Before rot sets in on Sat.
Hope you can get a rest this weekend Scatty before next week starts busy work schedule.
TMH, do you think he's feeling a bit jealous of ds1 being so good, and having had his birthday as well as the other emotional upheavals? It shows how much you are his world. But so difficult trying to cope with their physical strength at that age, even if you were superfit. Hope he feels better tomorrow.

scattyspice · 20/03/2009 20:00

Hi all.

Sympathies Mad with Ds, he is at that age though isn't he .

We have been having lots of fun 'walking' round our neighbourhood on Google . Ds is hooked!

Yay for the Friday feeling Swan !
