greyskull well done on getting the tax return done
TMH you have my sympathies with the screaming - it's been like that here since christmas, no idea what's gone wrong, I hope mini-mad settles himself quickly

Evening all
wendy glad your DD is on the mend. Hope she makes a quick recovery.
grouchy well done on good day out despite Boris
greyskull great letter!
wolf sounds like youve got loads done today - well done you!
mad Hope yourDs is alseep soon.A couple of mine have gone through phases of this. DD 2 was the worst. For ages mend DH used to take it in turns to stand outside her door after bedtime and we would just go in and lift her back into bed every time she got out. Seemed to go on forever but in reality I think it only took a week or so till she got the message!
Oh and i'm not on FB btw. May join though as I like the idea of being invited to a secret group LOL (I dont get out much can you tell!)
swannot sure I have a secret to succseful going out! It does take us forever to get all coated up etc to leave the house!(and normally involves a fair amount of arguing/nagging/shouting!)When we are out it goes something like this. DS2 is in sling or buggy. DD4 holds hand or buggy - every now and then she tries not too and pulls away, but I am firm on this and wont carry on till she holds on (often we are by busy road at school times!) Ds1 and DD1 and 2 straggle along behind. DD 4 wanders along in daze by us, sometimes holding hand/buggy depending where we are. That is the theory any way. Sometimes it goes well. Sometimes DD 4 will sit in middle of pavement and have a tantrum cause she doesn't want to hold my hand, and some days I think I'll never make it as far as the school gate! Oh the other thing is I do always allow myself an extra 10 mins for the whole getting out of car and to wherever routine as rushing always makes things worse!
And thinking about it not sure hardworking was quite the right description for DS1 he is prone to lazziiness if he thinks he can get away with it, but he never messes round in class etc...! and he is really quite un-streetwise so that doesn't help to make him popular.

So not a bad day here.
Lounge curtains seem fine ( although I still dont like them LOL)
changed DD 3 and 4's beds
general washing
Clean washing away
Bought 5 tubs of tester paint for lounge and splodged on lounge walls....need to pick one now!
Booked carpet clean for Weds.... hoping it may rescue our once cream(now grey) lounge carpet! (I know who in their right mind has a cream carpet with 6 kids LOL )
Spent decent ammount of time in freezing cold playground with DC, gave in when Dc's lips started to turn blue!
Watched The Secret Garden with DD1 and 2, DH and DS1 upstairs watching something more boyish!
Going to start on new book this evening.
Don't know what I need to do tomorrow - will worry bout that later.
Have god Sat evenings all!

Countingthegreyhairs · 31/01/2009 21:36

Evening everyone ...

Just checking in and wanted to say hello.

I've really appreciated all the support on this thread over the past month so just wanted to say "thanks". The first 3 weeks of January went really well and I was starting to get on top of things - the last week has been a bit of a disaster Flylady-wise with dd ill - but hoping to get back on track tomorrow and next week now she is finally getting better.

Just wanted to say (for Newbies or anyone contemplating joining) I am going to repeat baby-steps (must be my 6th time!!) starting from 1 Feb tomorrow, because I still don't feel as though they are totally embedded in me, but things are definitely (overall) changing for the better and everyone is very friendly here!!

Have a great w/e everyone ...

dylsmum1998 · 31/01/2009 21:56

evening all.
i dropped ds off at his dads this morning after poppingto the bank. then took dd to the farm. she had a lovely time feeding and stroking all the animals. and grooming a shetland pony. she wanted to bring home one of every animal cos as she says they so sweet mummy.
finally managed to get her out the farm at closing time. she decides on way to car its freezing (i'd noticed several hours earlier ). so i put the car blanket over her and whacked the heating on while she cahtted the whole way home about the soo sweet animals.
came home and she played until bedtime with her farm set.

wendy glad dd's finger is done.

i cleaned the cooker hob with my new steam cleaner and its looking better, need to tackle the oven at some pooint now.
have also changed all the beds, but that is all the housework i have done today, still dont suppose it will go anywhere-so i'll just have to do it another day unfortunately.......

TheMadHouse · 01/02/2009 08:10

Morning dears

I feel old this morning, had a leally odd nights sleep - lots of nightmares and dreams.

DH is in bed, boy and me have been up for hours

Breakfast is cooling

Mum is coming for sunday lucnh so I need to collect her at 10.30

I have shed loads of ironing to do

Need to clean mussy shoes

But can not find motivation this morning

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 01/02/2009 08:27

Morning all,

Mad! how come you have all beeen up for so long - will you get chance for a rest when your mum comes?

I just needed to share with you all quickly what has happened in the greyskull house this morning..

DH and I told the boys they should make a traintrack in DS1's room whilst we had a lie in
they made a train track without squabbling,
they brushed thier teeth
they washed their faces
DS1 opened the stair gate
they came down stairs
fed the cat the 20 g of food she has
put on classic fm
and when I came down they were sat haveing a very civilised breakfast, no spillages.

THEY ARE 2&4!! I am so proud of my little men

now going to join them.

scattyspice · 01/02/2009 08:40

Fantastic Greyskull .

Mad - I hope yours got to bed in the end. DD has been a nightmare at bedtime for as long as i can remember .

Wendy - glad things went well at the hospital. What a brave DD

Grouchy - hope you feel better today. Pace yourself!

Today:

Dh at work
papershop
swimming
ds reading
laundry

TheMadHouse · 01/02/2009 09:06

Greyskull Sounds wonderful - I heart your boys

Scatty I think the fact that he has gone from easy to hard in 1 week is what is difficult. I tied his door shut in the end and let him cry and then went up and popped him back in bed.

We have been up as DS1 woke DS2 accidently , he thought it was an hour later than it was. not to worry

But if you find my motivation, please send it back

Spiderplant · 01/02/2009 10:30

Ooooooh I haven't been on for a while and it has all changed!!!!

Nice to see all the familiar faces though

I have been farely busy lately...RL tends to get in the way doesn't it.
I did manage to spend most of yesterday tidying though. I cleaned the oven, the deep fat fryer, put the mountains of washing away and changed the beds....so I did a day of doing jobs I absolutely loathe but couldn't put off any longer! I feel quite good today

swanriver · 01/02/2009 10:38

We have had a rather hopeless unmotivated (lie-in) morning. Dh is still asleep so will be happy and rested. It is freezing.

But we need to get out today for a long walk and we'll have lunch out so no worries.

Dd has covered her cheeks with red makeup and has told me she is too ill for church , her bedtime last night was not very harmonious..

how sweet your children sound greyskull, they must have been following a calm morning routine from you! what a good idea to put on classic fm instead of cbeebies! which is my kids default sat setting first thing.

Sorry about your night TMH.

Wolfcub · 01/02/2009 11:13

morning all greyskull can we swop children in a two for 1 offer
mad try to get a nap later on if you can

We had a rough night with ds, he was up twice screaming for an hour and a half each time. DP let me sleep from 9am until just before 11 (I am just having breakfast) but I was having an awful dream about nursery putting ds under general anasthetic and not allowing us to be there, we were watching through the window and an evil woman at work was the new nursery boss.

Going to have some toast an then get up properly, have done a quick bit of tidying, its amazing how much mess ds can make when dp is looking after him

OP posts:
grouchyoscar · 01/02/2009 11:31

Nearly afternoon EVERYONE

Caught up with the bulk of my weekend jobs so

DONE

Up and washed
Have breakfast
Encourage Ed to do writing practice
Sweep kitchen
Mop kitchen
Mop front room
Clean toilet
Mop bathroom
Make bed

and like any self respecting Boris owner, get in it

Wel it's Superbowl day, DH's team is playing so a 2 part day is not really an issue. Ed and DH are having DS time so I'd only be in the way.

Oh, TO DO

Vac front room
Ironing
Clothes ready for morning
School books read and recorded
Sandwiches for tomorrow's lunch
Shoes cleaned
Bags ready

might make some choc chip crazy chocolate coookies if I get my act together but sleep calls

wendythepositivethinker · 01/02/2009 12:16

Hello everyone thanks again for all your good wishes.
DD sick about 2 am (straight down my dressing gown as I had picked her out the cot, sick trickling down naked skin not so good, I wouldn't recommend !) then just kept her up as I knew from experience more coming. 5 episodes of night garden on dvd later, she had been sick six more times and was ready for bed again. Crawled back to bed at 5.30, think I should have just stayed up! Luckily I have had two early nights in a row so had already had three hours sleep at 2 am.
She was sick again at 7.30 this morning, but since then has kept down juice. Everyone says this is normal after a general anaesthetic so I'm not too worried. However, she has been sick on her 'mitten' as she calls it (aka bandage) which has to stay on a week, so think we may have to go into hospital again to get it redressed. She is asleep now on the sofa and not waking her up to go get that done.
My mum took all my washing, clean and dirty and has just given me it back all ironed. Bless. they all had a good time at Strictly last night. Just been churlish but the woman who had my ticket hasn't offered to pay for it. I'm trying to rise above it and just feel pleased the ticket was well used instead of going to waste but it's difficult! Also silly MIL bought me a mug saying 'Strictly Tea' so everytime I use that I will be thinking of (a) the day DD broke her finger and (b)how I missed Strictly Live! Silly woman. To cap it all my mum was crying as the rest of them had gone to get ice creams without telling her and come back with drinks and ice creams in the interval. I mean, do I really need to know this?! So I feel bad that they didn't include her (MIL, SIL, DH's cousin and auntie plus woman who had my ticket).

I'm trying to draw a line under it and feel happy DD is ok so you might have to tell me that's the right way of looking at it!!!

Going to do a bit of tidying up but otherwise have a bit of a rest today. Sorry for long rant must be sleep deprived.

swanriver · 01/02/2009 12:32

Wendy sounds like a a tough night. It's such a relief to see them sleeping peacefully again after all that.
What a lovely mum to do all washing for you.

Feeling like things have backed up considerably here. Children not obeying any pleas/instructions/orders apart from odd autopilot things like ds1 putting things back whereever I ask him (something from classroom perhaps?) Dd is being charming again but shouting at her bros jealously, (wants dad to herself), and brothers constantly asking for screens of one sort or another.
Anyway after a lot of scuffling and shouting timewasting from all five of us, two have gone off with Dh for a walk, and ds2 is drwing a hotair balloon!

Dh cleared whole of downstairs in 20mins when I was getting dressed. He is amazingly focused when he sets his mind to anything.

swanriver · 01/02/2009 13:10

Feel better now and a bit more focused myself!
Done
made beds
tidied the dcs bedrooms
bathrooms hung up towels
rationalized laundry piles

only took 20 mins

Now out with ds2.

I think I need to change my expectations of weekends. Dh wants family time, I want to collapse, hide or escape on adventures so we need to come to some agreement on sustainable strategy, rather than firefighting.

Anyone else had a weekend strategy? we sorted out sats to some degree but not cracked sunday i fear...

TheMadHouse · 01/02/2009 13:19

Afternoon all

Swan We tend to have one day which is totally planned and we do something for all nad include walk, park or childrens activity (if we have to go to the shops) - ususally sat

Sunday at the moment tends to be a little more relaxed for all. I tend to do a big lunch (and collect mum), DH potters on house stuff (he is currently painting (toucing up dinning room walls). Take mum home, oten coupled with a walk. We tend them to all have an early bath, taking turns, PJ's and then again something family (board games, wii, puzzles, DVD). Oh and an easy supper - cheese on toast or the like.

DS1 will start football on a sunday morning for ahour soon and in the spring or summer I will take them to the beech a little more often - far too cold and windy today.

We have had a lovley roast and DS2 is napping, mum and DS1 are on monopoloy on the wii.

DW is on

DH is painting, next to patch our room and then rehang curtains in DS1's room, fill and paint.

I need to iron and take mum home

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 01/02/2009 13:28

Hi all,
Been to Sainsbury's then picked up boys and now just back from manic birthday party at "Funky Fun House" DS's had brilliant time and DS2 had chocolate for lunch came home and had soup

Hi Swan - we have a pattern to what happens at the weekend,
I have a lie in on Saturday and DH gets up with the boys I usually come down about 9.30 fully charged ready to go full on family time we have family quiet time 2-4 whilst DS2 sleeps.

Sunday DH has a lie in and we get him up at about 10am, we then run around doing family stuff till 2 when DS2 sleeps. and we have quiet time again, reading or watching a DVD something like that.

Wendy you must be exhausted - it is so hard to hear when other people have had alot of fun whilst you have been looking after your DD Hope the rest of your weekend is more peaceful.

I tend to get weekend chores done dotted around that - DH does alot at the weekend to help though - like now he should be chilling as DS2 is in bed but he has decided to clean out a cupboard in the kitchen.

Back later - sudoku calls

scattyspice · 01/02/2009 15:26

Hi all.

Wendy - you have been through the mill!

Swan - our weekends are a bit hit and miss. Dh hates to plan things and likes to do things spontaneously , which sometimes works 9we do far more than we would otherwise) but sometimes doeasn't. He also hates going anywhere childcentered (soft play, farm etc). This weekend dh has been working so I've had it planned to military pricision lol hence its been calm (but a bit boring ).

I have to confess to having a major tantrum last night as we have a new computer (well cast off from dh work) and have reinstalled itunes but my ipod won't work. The comp has wiped everything on it and now won't recognise it. Anyone know anything about ipods?

wendythepositivethinker · 01/02/2009 17:48

Hi everyone Scatty sorry no ipod knowledge, hope it's sorted soon
Greyskull your weekends sound good! Good news on the tax!! Your dc did well giving you the lie-in - you are obviously doing something right there
Mad hope DS better at going to bed tonight
Swan You're right it was lovely of my mum I must appreciate her more
Wolf Sorry to be the cause of a nightmare with my DD's anaesthetic
grouchy thanks for eco recipes will try out. and what are these crazy cookies I keep hearing about?
galen what are you reading?
dylsmum farm a good idea, haven't been in ages
Spider nice to see you!
greyhairs I still have to keep repeating the babysteps too, I don't always shine my sink or do my hotspots

Minimum flying here today as you can expect. See you tomorrow

wendythepositivethinker · 01/02/2009 17:49

Oh, DD is still throwing up. She was sick on her bandage so we took her to hosp for changing. Sick on way there and way back. Not since, eating bread now so we'll see that again later [yuk emoticon] Wish she could keep the calpol down, she must be feeling sore in her finger.

galen · 01/02/2009 18:23

Evening all.
Busy day here today and need to be brief cause Dh teachung piano in this room in 10 mins LOL (don't have a laptop sadly!)

Wendy sorry bout your poor DD, hope she is a bit brighter now. And very sad all about strictly - it would bug me too.
I'm reading the MN bok of the month (an Enchanted April) Used to love reading but have let it sllip, so last month I ordered the bbok of the month for Jan on an impulse to get back into reading. realy enjoyed so trying this one too - saves me having to decide for myself what to read!(brain still too frazzled for that!)

swan our wk/ends are often disastrous. I really need to try and formulate a better plan for them. me and DH always argue, nothings ever properly planned, loads of time gets wasted etc....I'm going to try and think about how to resolve wk/end thing I think....Sometimes by Sunday night I'm glad it's almost monday ...I think mostly it is all down to a lack of clear communication between DH and me, and a lack of planning in advance. Things are better in the summer though as we do a lot of walking....

So done bits and pieces today.
Church this am
DH working Pm so attempted to entertain all 6, whilst cooking roast, sorting washing and organizing school stuff....Slightly disastrous!Still did manage to make nice choc pudding with choc sauce and custard!
Snow fluuries on and off all day....children very (overly!)optomistic about day at home tomorrow...Have wellies all ready just in case LOL
better dash then .... see you all tomorrow!

scattyspice · 01/02/2009 18:39

DS playing I spy. Something beginning with L. Eventually I gave in it was lectricity .

galen - tea sounds lovely mmm.

Wendy - poor dd and you what a nightmare you are having!

swanriver · 01/02/2009 19:23

I'm so sorry Wendy.
Galen - you have made me feel better about our hit and miss weekends. How great to have a dh who teaches music (or is it just piano?).
It all used to be simple when we had naps! just as you say TMH and Greyskull and then there was enforced quiet time for all...
Scatty, I hope you are not too exhausted. Mine love I spy although it is usually very unsophisticated I spy red ie: red bus.

Anyway just came back from V & A museum with Ds2. HAPPY.

Wolfcub · 01/02/2009 19:45

evening All wendy I hope DD feels better soon.

swan our weekends aren't planned as such but we try to confine job type things to one day and try (I say try) to watch a family friendly dvd on a sunday afternoon.

done

made bed
went to local indoor shopping centre - bad idea
cleaned kitchen surfaces and hob
wiped out bottom of fridge
washed up
made fish fingers
