Wierd crusty patches on sheets....

ok ok before the comedians among you start sniggering, this is on clean sheets. They come out of the wash with slightly yellowing, crusty patches on them... particularly at the top of the duvet cover that goes nearest the head end of the bed, and pillowcases. It seems to be more prevalent on dh's side of the bed, is he just a big smelly greaseball and he's leaving deposits on my snowy white sheets? And how on earth can I get rid of them, I put them through a 60 degree wash and that didn't shift it.

Hair grease? Neither of us use products on our hair... and we both shower every day. It's definitely more on dh's side of the bed, just checked the bottom sheet and there's a big body shaped crusty bit on there too.

Does dh have his arms out of bed? With the duvet tucked under his armpits?

If so, it could be anti-perspirant/sweat patches. This goes hard and crusty and creamy in colour.

Don't ask how I know.

Right, just realised that the anti-perspirant theory will not work for the pillowcases, unless he's spraying it behind his ears as well.

girlandboy, that could be it.... how do you get rid of it? And why would it be on the pillow too, unless he sleeps with one arm up. I never notice, usually got my back to him and head under the pillow

Perhaps you need to steam clean him.

Have you checked dh in case there are any crusty bits still adhering to him?

Sweat can turn white sheets yellow I think.

We change the sheets once a week, so it can't be some kind of manky build up.

You got me stumped, then. Sounds like dh is obviously oozing something - although I do like the throes of paasion ear squirting idea too.

Does he wear PJ's?

Could be earwax too... he has to get them syringed when the buildup stops him hearing me (!)

at the suggestion of steam cleaning dh!

Found this -

If the stain, however, is white or clear with a greasy texture, it?s due to the antiperspirant and should be treated as a grease stain with the appropriate solvent."

Try soaking in a sinkful of borax!

I mean the sheets, not dh.

I had a similar problem and got loads of good advice here

With mine I think the machine was dirty and was depositing gunk on the sheets. I now wash the sheets on 60 degrees and use Vanish whitening stuff and the machine cleaner from Lakeland

does he smell of vinegar in the mornings?? dh is a sweaty smelly beast (but i do love him ) and tends to smeg up my pristine white sheets- i have to soak them in milton soln overnight once a month then put them on v hot washes in the interim.

no idea what causes it- but you have my sympathy!

thanks for that girl and boy, I reckon it's the sweaty variety. He's always complaining about being too hot in bed, here we are in the middle of winter and we've only got a 4 tog duvet on the bed. I'm in full PJs with sometimes socks and a fleece on and he's naked and sweating. Can you imagine the arguments we have about the heating?

Does he sleep in the nude? I made DH wear a t-shirt or change the sheets every day himself and take over laundry duty.
