erm, i don't. i figured it would be clean enough already from all the cleaning it does???????

eek.
i do wipe round the edge when it gets manky though

SgianDubh · 23/01/2009 20:38

only when it smells,
but i know of a woman who runs through a wash with just a cup of vinegar in it. eveyr week

sagacious · 23/01/2009 20:39

Every 2 weeks the filter gets cleaned and I do the vinegar thing as well

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 23/01/2009 20:40

I sort of guess it's a bit like you have to clean the shower occasionally. Yes, it's only soap and water, but somehow stil gets dirty.

Once every couple of months with vinegar and half a lemon. Every week seems a tad excessive IMO - not v.green to run the dishwasher repeatedly with nothing in it.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/01/2009 20:42

I put one of those Finish cleaner bottle things in every couple of months.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 23/01/2009 20:43

So how do you put the vinegar into it? Just empty a cup into the bottom?

I take the spray arms off and clean them every other day or so. I do the filter once or twice a week and use a dishwasher cleaner every couple of weeks.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 23/01/2009 20:43

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 23/01/2009 20:45

When I notice the edges are looking bit manky!

Geepers · 23/01/2009 20:48

Mary, when I first got my d/w I had no idea it needed maintenance and stopped working when the spray arms filled up with gross crap.

Now I know how easily the arms unscrew to be cleaned I love doing it. I find it pleasurable in the same way squeezing spots is. Slightly vomiticious, but great to get something out

Geepers · 23/01/2009 20:48

Ilovemydog, I have never used salt in mine. I just use an all-in-one tablet.

thisisyesterday · 23/01/2009 20:49

mine always comes out clean every time and I haven't cleaned any filters in the 2 years I've had it!!!!

am scared to even look now lol

Geepers · 23/01/2009 20:50

thisisyesterday, I am having palpitations just reading that lol. Go and check now. Mine is gross and I do it often.

ja9 · 23/01/2009 20:53

singingbear, could you talk me through cleaning the filters... mine definitely needs SOMETHING done to it!

Geepers · 23/01/2009 20:55

ja9 my filter is in teh bottom, it just pulls out, then seperates into two parts to wash.

The arms unscrew and often get food trapped in them.

notsoteenagemum · 23/01/2009 21:01

I only wipe the front and top edge down, I rinse all the dishes before they go in so nothing is really dirty in it, the only things ever in the filter are spoons!
How do the spray arms get gunky btw?

thisisyesterday · 23/01/2009 21:01

well i suppose at least it'll be clean mank :D

i might go and look in a bit and then let you know if there is anything there lol

I clean the trap out about once a week, and I fill the dispenser with white vinegar and run it on empty about once a month. Very sparkly!

slackrunner · 23/01/2009 21:08

mary - just empty a cup of white vinegar into the bottom of the machine
