moodlumthehoodlum · 27/11/2008 21:22

my dream one is just off white.

but alas tis just that

NotanOtter · 27/11/2008 21:24

yes cream is the best seller and has long been my dream but...i want a white kitchen...

OP posts:
moodlumthehoodlum · 27/11/2008 21:27

with a white kitchen then, I would probably have a red one, with matchy matchy red kitchen aid.

my mil has a black one with a v pale grey kitchen, and somehow it looks a bit bleak, and you might find that with a pewter one?

Millarkie · 27/11/2008 21:34

Mine's racing green

NotanOtter · 27/11/2008 21:41

i am liking your advice moodlumthehoodlum

I went for a black one 'cos it's boring safe classic even though I lusted after a purple one . And in fairness it has allowed me to change the colour of my kitchen a few times. Have also been in a fab modern white kitchen (not mine ) with a black aga which had lots of wood - floors, worktops - to warm it up. However to confuse you further DB has a gorgerous red rayburn that just glows in his cream painted, traditional kitchen. So really I'm no help to you in your indecision...

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 27/11/2008 22:27

I have a stanley but same idea - in red. love it

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 27/11/2008 22:28

(actually, I hate the stanley, but I love having the red range cooker!! )

IdrisTheDragon · 27/11/2008 22:28

Ours is red - was here when we moved in.

TackyChristmasLights · 27/11/2008 22:38

got the cream and love it although felt it was a bit safe when we ordered it.
was told by Aga that the white was a cold white and can appear a bit 'grey'.
In our old house we had a light blue one which was lovely and old fashioned.
Friends have a red which is lovely and warm looking but I worried I may get fed up with the strong colour.

Dilemma.

LadyBuntingofCupcake · 27/11/2008 22:53

Depends on the style of your kitchen. I would say:

Modern, clean lines, no clutter - go for pewter.

Old fashioned, rickety, cluttery - go for red.

Mine's cream. Thought about pewter but our units are duck egg and liked the cream/duck egg combination... that said I would imagine pewter is much easier to keep clean.

My Grandma had a red Aga and although it's not massively fashionable (IMHO) it's such a lovely classic warm colour.

NotanOtter · 27/11/2008 23:15

re fashion lady cupcake - in our local aga shop

31% CREAM
19 % pewter
18% black
9 % claret

then it goes down to bits and bobs for all remaining colours....

i know what you mean...room is quite big 38foot through room by about 16 foot

going to go white with wooden floor

stove at one end aga the other - thinking of just one huge dresser (think modern plain english look) on one wall and an island

so a bit stark almost....that's where the red came in....

moving back to pewter now.....

tacky - it IS a terrible dilemma

this sort of simple thing

OP posts:
elliephant · 27/11/2008 23:38

Think red could be a bit too overstated for such an understated kitchen. But it is a lovely glowy colour..Gets off fence to go and bung porridge in oven and hug my aga goodnight

NotanOtter · 27/11/2008 23:40

you lucky lucky thing

freezes nuts off

elliephant · 27/11/2008 23:45

DH has just complained that I hug the aga more than him ( the lids are soo warm).Hmm maybe I better spend some time on BEAUTIFUL'S thread . Happy AGA shopping NAO

NotanOtter · 27/11/2008 23:52

thankyou ellie - will use you as my font of all knowledge when the hunk of iron arrives

Not and Otter
I really love the kitchens in your thread and mine is really similar.

Think your choice is really between cream and pewter.
Both sumptuous so don't think you would regret either. But just stood back and looked at the pewter coloured dribble on the front of my cream AGA(??). Also my husband has managed to chip the hinge on one of the doors and knocked the enamel off (glad it wasn't me) and the metal underneath is showing through which wouldn't be such a problem with the pewter.

Personally I think it comes down to how much lightness you are after. I really wanted a light feel in my kitchen, so white Harvey Jones cupboards (need to paint but similar colour dilemma), black slate floor and cream walls with duck egg blinds.
Good luck.
It will be gorgeous whatever you decide.

TackyChristmasLights · 28/11/2008 09:48

Sorry , Not AND in your name. DOH.

SquiffyHock · 28/11/2008 09:52

We have a black AGA - kitchen is quite modern, cream high gloss units, cream stone worktops and a walnut floor. I really love it!!

I was very tempted by red but was worried that I could never change anything. As it is I have red as my 'accent colour' but could change that very easily.

For some strange reason I thought that the black looked warmer than the pewter.

IdrisTheDragon · 28/11/2008 10:19

"Old fashioned, rickety, cluttery - go for red" - we definitely have the right colour .

We've lived in our house for 3.5 years now and the red is still lovely.

TackyChristmasLights · 28/11/2008 10:50

Anticipating a decision now.
Please????

No pressure.

MrsWalton · 28/11/2008 14:35

cream. love it.

cissycharlton · 28/11/2008 14:37

Cream as well. LIke all the colours though.

Totoally depends on kitchen, but I think go for pewter.

TheGoat · 28/11/2008 14:44

red (don't have an aga nor any intention of ever getting one). i think getting a 'classic' or worrying about changing your colourscheme goes against the grain of the aga culture. you should be too busy drying your hunters' wellies and chasing out hens to worry about the colour of your kitchen. if anyone comments on the red one not going with the rest of your kitchen - just laugh in an eccentric manner and throw some tweed at them.
