i LOVE that site kristinaM

KristinaM · 29/11/2008 00:30

The black is lovely too

I'm not helping am I?

LadyBuntingofCupcake · 29/11/2008 10:00

My friend has a pewter one, it's what I will go for next time. It does have more depth than black and hides the dirt unlike cream. Not saying I don't love my cream baby though

TheGoat · 29/11/2008 10:07

why do folk have one in this day and age of combie boilers and cookers you can turn on and off. we had one when i was little but that was in a farmhouse in the 70's.

it is a pretty expensive design statement.

i am asking cos if there is a good reason for havign one i could start saving and yes i would definitely have a red one.

ConniesCuriousCandle · 29/11/2008 12:46

i am a sahm with 6 dcs and large house
it will be cheaper than heating the whole house tbh and currently just freeze!

elliephant · 29/11/2008 13:07

My lovely shiny black aga heats nearly all of the ground floor of my house- only have rads on in hall and north facing playroom. It also heats the bedrooms above it. It drys clothes and shoes. I stick wrinkly stuff on its lids and it decreases them (clothes that is not OAPs). I warm the kids clothes on it before they get dressed in morning. I have been know to stick my head over it and scrunch dry my curly hair. Its the first port of call when everyone - visitor and family- come into the house. Quick warm of the bum and you're home. We don't have a toaster or microwave and the electic kettle is only used in summer. At the minute its drying out loads of fir cones that my craft obbessed 5 year old intends making christmas decorations with. Its always ready to use - very handy when you're disorganised/late. I also hug it when I'm cold which is often. Its a cooker as well. It is not a mere design statement its part of the family ( overcome with emotion smiley )

TheGoat · 29/11/2008 13:07

dcs, how lovely. i am one of 6. how old are they?

did you hve 6 to justify owning an aga?

TackyChristmasLights · 29/11/2008 13:19

What a miserable old goat.

Would you have 6 kids to justify buying an AGA.

jealousy is a terrible thing....

TheGoat · 29/11/2008 15:35

omg that was a joke, i would love to have 6 kids for no particular reason. i wasn't being offensive.

TackyChristmasLights · 29/11/2008 16:24

sorry, obviously misinterpreted your comments.

ConniesCuriousCandle · 29/11/2008 20:05

Elliephant WOW you really love your AGA

TheGoat · 30/11/2008 09:10

16,14,13,11,6,5

frostyfingers · 01/12/2008 09:38

I have a dark green Rayburn - here when we got the house, last house had navy blue which we chose. Love the green, although was difficult to match colour wise. Have gone for cream walls, units are wooden, painted a pale green and the worktops are black. Have blinds with green, cream and red check, and red piece of furniture at one end. My friend had lovely red AGA, pale yellow units and walls, wooden worktops and red gingham blinds and it was warm and snug. If you have a strong AGA colour then you can just pick out it's colour with a few bits and pieces, easier than having your walls a bright colour, and better if your kitchen isn't huge.

bella29 · 01/12/2008 12:20

Racing green.

Would choose cream if getting a new 4 oven Aga when I marry Pierce Brosnan and move to 20,000 acre estate in Highlands.........

Back to real world

I think cream's pretty classic and would resist getting a fashionable colour for an appliance which is probably going to outlive me.

wideratthehips · 03/12/2008 13:20

my mil has a beautiful red one (its old so not a claret red but a bright red) and the rest of the kitchen is a beautiful handmade cream. behind the aga are lovely red fired earth tiles. everyone always goes and warms there bum on it. a friend has a lovely old style aga which is cream and looks really wonderfully retro, the shelves in the kitchen are all open and the belfast sink really sets it off.

NotanOtter · 07/12/2008 22:23

had almost decided on pewter ( which is virtually black ...when.....dp decided to go all recession styled on me...

now the whole project is 'in the balance'

we were due to get a loan to fund it and dp is worrying this is not wise .......

My Rayburn is chocolate brown and shiny. It heats all the rads, cooks gorgeous dinners and makes piping hot water for all six of us and all using logs we've collected and chopped. Oh OK, and anthrocite on really cold nights.

Spidermama · 07/12/2008 22:35

NOA we saved loads of money on our project by getting a reconditioned Rayburn and a nice friendly Rayburn anorak to install it for us.

FWIW I would go for the pewter just as long as you have enough light in your kitchen simply because the cream enamel is far less forgiving.

You have to force encourage your dh to go ahead with this project. You know how badly you want it.

NotanOtter · 07/12/2008 22:57

sounds dreamy Spidermama

hardly dare broach the subject atm.....

need to ring the builder and delay him to give me time to restore dp;s confidence in the loan!

OP posts:
Spidermama · 08/12/2008 13:14

Yes we had to get a loan to do the work. And it went over budget, of course.

Good luck.

NotanOtter · 08/12/2008 21:16

odd spidermama - that is what dp said today - it is not even the loan but the over budget ness that he is more scared of....

meanwhile it is dp's birthday and the gas oven we have ( door held shut with a peg spring - need pliers to open) broke just as the cake went in !

now it s puled out into the middle of the room with an extension lead dragged across the room

i told him it is divine intervention! He 'believes' I dont - lets hope it swings it!

Nice work NOA. You'll get there.
