Morning all

Still have the remnants of my migrane, but have a busy day ahead, so

It is time to start an afternoon/evening routine you know this is what keeps me sane

We are swishing and swiping basically it means just giving the bathroom a cone over each time you use it. Great idea

what is a S&S

So Routine wise it should look a little like this:

Morning Routine

  • Get up and get dressed doing your hair and face
  • Make your bed
  • Looking at your posted reminders in the kitchen and bathroom
  • Reading 2 minutes of reminders
  • Recognizing the negative voices and changing them
  • Put out your Hot Spots for 2 minutes
  • 5 Minute Room Rescue (pick any room in the house) set your timer and go!
  • Laundry
  • Mission

Before Bed Routine

  • Keep your sink shining
  • Lay out your clothes for tomorrow
  • Put out your Hot Spot
  • Laundry
  • set a regular bedtime and stick to it

Jas · 27/11/2008 08:38

lots of cross posting there....Hello everyone

EHM · 27/11/2008 08:38

HI JAS x post

bigbaubleeyes · 27/11/2008 08:50

I am clued up on swish n swipe - i use disposable but must confess when I am on top I dont do this every day.

Good moring EHM and Jas - I'm going to start soon and see how much I get done in an hour. My list is longer but it can't be as fiddly and time consuming as sorting out DS room yesterday which included all the toys in the corect boxes and sorting clothes that are too small for storage and all the littel socks n mittens mixed up!

I put ella fistzgerald on yesterday I really like this - added a glam dimension to my mess!

Countingthegreyhairs · 27/11/2008 09:15

Morning all - gatecrashing again today if that's OK

I appreciate all the flying info Madhouse and having read your post yesterday about your op, I hope you manage to get everything sorted re childcare. I really admire you for doing what you are doing.

Got through lots of my list yesterday -still some to finish. Inspired by Flylady and this thread, I discovered a great way of cleaning with dd (5):

  1. Wrote out a list of the five rooms we had to tackle (deliberately included bathroom that didn't need alot doing to it - as incentive).
  1. Got kitchen timers for both of us
  1. Did 10 mins frantic cleaning and tidying in each room accompanied by loud music (and lots of falsely excited exclamations from me to the tune of "oooh, I hope we'll beat the clock") Great excitement when timer goes off!
  1. When we did beat the clock, wrote a big tick and a smile by that room in list
  1. When we didn't finish - drew a smile + recycling arrow to indicate we would come back

Kept it all moving along and fun and I WAS AMAZED by how much got done and that dd was engaged too. OK so it's not perfect, going to repeat the exercise today, but the whole house was in a considerably better state than when I started ...

Sorry for essay but I really struggle with keeping dd entertained and getting stuff done and I was really surprised by how well this worked. Normally I would give in to my perfectionist tendencies and either not doing anything if I couldn't do it all perfectly resulting in horrible tip, or do it so well that I couldn't face it next time, ditto.

So thanks all ....am converted

bythepowerofgreyskull · 27/11/2008 09:26

Morning all

Countingthegreyhairs - I do think getting the kids involved is the only way to go - we play Junglerun and the jungle king is counting down the timer

Bigbaubleeyes - wow sounds like you are really ontop of things today - can you pass a bit of what you've got in this direction.. serious lack of motivation.

Morning Jas & EHM

TMH - hope your head finally clears today and that your Homestart time allows you to have a good time icing the cakes with DS1 - thanks for the thread.. you keep us all going

So toddler group this morning then Mum is coming DS1 has gone back to school today THANK THE LORD!! know he is nearly better as he was being cheeky and got so cross this morning that he has scratched all down my arm and it is bleeding but at least he is now well enough to leave the house for the day
Morning routine done and thursday is my cleaner day so when I get back from toddlers the skirting boards and windows should be clean.

Won't be back till much later - have a lovely day ladies.

BiancaCastafiore · 27/11/2008 10:12

Ouch greyskull hope your arm is OK - glad ds is on the mend though

TMH thanks for the thread, hope today goes well x

EHM Hello You'll be glad to know I have made a good start of Christmas shopping online while stuck in the house for teh past few days I'm nowhere near to catching up with you though!

Bauble well done on your start to the day I like theidea of glamming up the mess

Jas, greyhairs, Hello

I had my first full night's sleep without being ill last night so have woken up feeling massively better It's so nice to feel human again!
I am going to run the hoover and a duster around but take it steady otherwise today.
I am supposed to help at school thsi afternoon so hope I feel well enough - I really enjoy going in. We are doing some Christmas crafts

Dh spoke to his mum last night and found out what she's bought teh kids for Christmas.(thsi is always a problem as she never consults us and buys things they already have/are too old for etc) She has bought dd 4 things that she bought her last year as well (one of which dd had the year before that too!) Dd asked them for the playmobil camper van but they decided they could get lots of tat other presents for the same price so haven't got it for her

I know I sound ungrateful - I don't mean to be.

Off to deal with my annoyance by hoovering vigorously....

wendylanguage · 27/11/2008 10:42

Bianca my mum is just the same as that, buys allsorts of rubbish instead of a couple of nice presents which will actually last and be played with. Oh well, it's their money isn't it! My dd and ds have got huge mounds of tat this year I have seen it all at her house and now my Dad has informed me they have no more money left to buy the one toy each I asked for! Fine, I said, they have got enough but inside I was cross and thought just buy that one thing and nothing else!!! DH's parents much more sensible with presents.

Still haven't sent my form in even though it's done now! I still can't decide whether to be SAHM and subsidise out of savings or whether to work 2 days and have plenty of spare cash, i am so indecisive. The thing is I think I am a lazy sort of person who has slipped a little bit into a lethargic way of doing things - here I am on the computer at 10.41am instead of playing with dd. Working might be an external force making me be dynamic again! Either that or going to bed early every night instead of midnight

padboz · 27/11/2008 10:46

Can someone tell me how to start all this? theres so much to read and I'm lost. I know, clean the sink - I've done that bit

tortoise · 27/11/2008 10:47

Morning.
I am feeling awful this morn. Full of cold and pain in my tum! Got kids to school ok though.

Phoned up about the cooker as i hadn't heard anything and it's been postponed until Tuesday!! Aparently they tried to contact yesterday! They have my mob and home number. No messages on either. I am not impressed!

Also as i am feeling so grotty i can't get to Argos for the 2 bits reserved last night. Waiting for frined to call back if she is able to pick them up for me. £19 off the my little pony set DD2 wants!

Going to do nothing for a while. Did plenty yesterday ready for cooker coming!

I met the homestart lady (a charity) last week, she is a nice oldish lady. She will come on a weekly basis and spend 2 hours with us, which should give me a little one on one time with the boys and then after the op cover for my hospital appointments (so I can have the expander thing done on a 2 weekly basis)

EHM You know you are always welcome here anytime , but I wouldnt expect you to look after the mini's - lets see what next week brings

OP posts:
Jas · 27/11/2008 14:30

2 hour for photos is Bad!

I was confusing homestart and surestart this morning

@ having to wait for your cooker tortoise , and that they lied about trying to contact you.

Our local co-op is closing for refurb next week (odd time to do it imo) but they are selling some things off at 50p a go, so I've stocked up on dishwasher tabs and things Last day is next Wed, and tax credits go into the bank then so I will try and get a bit more.

Bianca - glad you are feeling better at last.

Padboz - Link on op takes you to babysteps. We are currently 1/2 way through redoing them, but Ruby is right, if you need to kick start, then a small list of essential jobs morning and evening can help, plus breaking things down into 15 minute concentrated bursts....no getting distracted and moving on to something else 1/2 way through....can also help.

Or tbh, just posting a list of things you want to achieve each day in the morning, and then coming back and owning up to not doing them reporting jobs done can be a motivator.

TheMadHouse · 27/11/2008 14:34

I am also [anfry] as it is cold and we still dont have heating. I am waiting on yet another plumber.

Anne I bet you must be cold too

jas Wow bargains cool - odd time though I agree

I have done the door mats

Will proceed with the rest once we have collected DS1 from preschool
