Btw, I've been thinking of ideas for gifts to give to the teacher/ta's this year. Do you think they'd like a xmas dec which is a picture of a xmas tree drawn & coloured by DD, then laminated by me with a gold ribbon on it to attach to tree? Or is that really naff?

bythepowerofgreyskull · 09/11/2008 09:00

I think that sounds like a lovely idea Anne.

how old is your DD?

TheMadHouse · 09/11/2008 09:00

Jas trade in guide is really good

AnneOfAvonlea · 09/11/2008 09:01

She is 4 Greyskull so just started reception.

TheMadHouse · 09/11/2008 09:02

I concure - fantastic idea - I WANT a laminator - Mad stamps foot like a three year old

AnneOfAvonlea · 09/11/2008 09:02

I got mine recently Mad for about £20. I havent used it much yet though.

TheMadHouse · 09/11/2008 09:03

My friend teaches and she said the best pressie she ever had was a pencil pot made by a child, she has it on her desk at home and thinks of the child everytime she uses it.

We got silver christmas decorations from a friend for the boys christenings and it is great - we use them every year and I am sure the boys will when they have their own trees

TheMadHouse · 09/11/2008 09:04

Anne - is it a cool one or a heat driven one?

AnneOfAvonlea · 09/11/2008 09:08

Heat driven. I got it from Rymans but smiths have them too.

BiancaCastafiore · 09/11/2008 09:10

Morning

I have been looking at the Wii links too
The kids have asked for one but I doubt we'll get one this year as dh is pretty anti the idea
The kids have also asked for a climbing frame so we'll probably look into that more.

I need to get up and get the house straight today. Things have gone seriously downhill this week and I have another very busy week ahead.

Dd is going to church with my parents and ds is (hopefully) going on a little outing with dh this monring. Dd has to take part in the Rememberance Parade with the Brownies this afternoon.

I'm still not well so will dose myself up with various potions and try to get on.

Thanks for that one MAD - they won't take our games (too old) except PSP, if there are any of dd1s to get rid of.

I think the dec idea is nice....both my parents were infant teachers, and although all gifts were appreciated, home made, and/or consumables were best. (Mum had a huge box of toiletries in her wardrobe and re-donated most of them to church fetes etc)

BiancaCastafiore · 09/11/2008 09:13

I love the decoration idea AoA

Jas · 09/11/2008 09:15

Mine haven't asked. They asked last year, and we just couldn't do it, but this year the only other "big" present option for dd1 is a new bike, and d2 wants a ds, but both combined would cost more, and then dd1 would want the ds and no one would be really happy.
This way I can ask mil for wii games and we don't end up with loads of huge toys they don't really want.

There is a Game at the centre I am going to go to next week, so I will check it out there.

AnneOfAvonlea · 09/11/2008 09:19

Jas - you can get a game loyalty card too and get points when you spend in there. DH often uses his points on new games.

wendylanguage · 09/11/2008 09:48

Decoration idea is a great one, Anne, as a teacher i would love it (although I doubt 14 year olds I teach would be up for it!)

I want a Wii after hearing you lot talk about it! DH wants to get DS (4) a Leapster for Xmas, anyone got one? He loves playing computer games on CBeebies.

I am still in a bad temper this morning and really DO NOT want to go swimming with the children but suppose I have to!!

Mad laminators are great. I use mine all the time for stuff for the children. I got mine in Asda for very cheap (about £10 I think) - think they sell them in most supermarkets.

Morning All

I want a Wii aswell! We cant really justify it though...we cant pretend we're buying it for a 3 year old and an 8 month old !

Ruby Are you still doing the countdown to Christmas? Where are we up to?

DP is working again so its me and the DC's again. Plan on making biscuits later but waiting for dough to defrost.

Also want to declutter the bedroom a bit. Mmm we'll see how it goes!

TheMadHouse · 09/11/2008 13:54

Afternoon all

We have had a fun morning, building things from old boxes (see pics on profile)

Lunch has been had and enjoyed and DS2 is napping

DS1 helpped me hoover and tidy and has now gone for spuds

I need to mope the floor whilst it is quiet

scattyspice · 09/11/2008 14:18

LOL Mad - they look like they're have a good time!

Got my car back again and seems to be working well (yeah!).

Weather is cold and rainy (brr), managed to get out for a walk yesterday in brief dry spell. At last dd is starting to walk further, she is more willing to walk and her balance is improving . She is also sleeping through the night most nights now!! (Hallelujah!).

Been swimming this morning and gave dh the kids this aft (this is what you need to do Wendy ).

I have been up to sainsburys and got some jeans for me (25% off) and stocking filler for dd (pink power ranger lol 50% off) all with nectar points so didnt spend a penny!

ruby thanks for the Xmas countdown (seem to be on track phew).

wendylanguage · 09/11/2008 14:26

Yes scatty I agree! Been swimming this morning but the water was quite cold, and DD wouldn't stay in the water, kept running by the side and taking off her hat and throwing it so we ended up coming home after 45 minutes. DS was fed up as he was actually doing a bit of 'swimming'.

Think grandparents have arrived so BBL

grouchyoscar · 09/11/2008 14:48
